Kakbhushundi's Past Life Stories

सुनु खगेस रघुपति प्रभुताई। कहउँ जथामति कथा सुहाई।।
जेहि बिधि मोह भयउ प्रभु मोही। सोउ सब कथा सुनावउँ तोही॥1॥

भावार्थ:
हे पक्षीराज गरुड़जी! श्री रघुनाथजी की प्रभुता सुनिए। मैं अपनी बुद्धि के अनुसार वह सुहावनी कथा कहता हूँ। हे प्रभो! मुझे जिस प्रकार मोह हुआ, वह सब कथा भी आपको सुनाता हूँ॥1॥

English Translation:
Hear, O’ King of Birds, about the greatness of Lord Raghupati. I shall tell a beautiful tale, to the best of my understanding. O’ Master, how I once came under the spell of enchantment, I will now share that story with you in full…

राम कृपा भाजन तुम्ह ताता। हरि गुन प्रीति मोहि सुखदाता॥
ताते नहिं कछु तुम्हहि दुरावउँ। परम रहस्य मनोहर गावउँ॥2॥

भावार्थ:
हे तात! आप श्री रामजी के कृपा पात्र हैं। श्री हरि के गुणों में आपकी प्रीति है, इसीलिए आप मुझे सुख देने वाले हैं। इसी से मैं आप से कुछ भी नहीं छिपाता और अत्यंत रहस्य की बातें आपको गाकर सुनाता हूँ॥2॥

English Translation:
O’ Master, you are blessed with Lord Ram’s grace and have a deep love for hearing about Lord Hari’s virtues. Thus, you bring great joy to me. I am, therefore, concealing nothing from you and will reveal a profound and enchanting secret…

सुनहु राम कर सहज सुभाऊ। जन अभिमान न राखहिं काऊ॥
संसृत मूल सूलप्रद नाना। सकल सोक दायक अभिमाना॥3॥

भावार्थ:
श्री रामचंद्रजी का सहज स्वभाव सुनिए। वे भक्त में अभिमान कभी नहीं रहने देते, क्योंकि अभिमान जन्म-मरण रूप संसार का मूल है और अनेक प्रकार के क्लेशों तथा समस्त शोकों का देने वाला है॥3॥

Listen to Lord Ram’s simple and humble nature, He never tolerates pride in His devotees. The root cause of the endless cycle of birth and death, along with every type of suffering and sorrow, is ego…

ताते करहिं कृपानिधि दूरी। सेवक पर ममता अति भूरी॥
जिमि सिसु तन ब्रन होई गोसाईं। मातु चिराव कठिन की नाईं॥4॥

भावार्थ:
इसीलिए कृपानिधि उसे दूर कर देते हैं, क्योंकि सेवक पर उनकी बहुत ही अधिक ममता है। हे गोसाईं! जैसे बच्चे के शरीर में फोड़ा हो जाता है, तो माता उसे कठोर हदय की भाँति चिरा डालती है॥4॥

English Translation:
The ocean of mercy, Shri Ram, removes this ego out of deep love for His devotees. Just as a mother, with a heavy heart, pierces the boil on her child’s body to help him heal, so does He, O’ Lord of Senses…

जदपि प्रथम दुख पावइ रोवइ बाल अधीर।
ब्याधि नास हित जननी गनति न सो सिसु पीर॥ 74क॥

भावार्थ:
यद्यपि बच्चा पहले (फोड़ा चिराते समय) दुःख पाता है और अधीर होकर रोता है, तो भी रोग के नाश के लिए माता बच्चे की उस पीड़ा को कुछ भी नहीं गिनती (उसकी परवाह नहीं करती और फोड़े को चिरवा ही डालती है)॥ 74क॥

English Translation:
Although the child initially experiences pain and cries helplessly, the mother remains unmoved by the child’s suffering, understanding that the wound will eventually heal and bring relief…

तिमि रघुपति निज दास कर हरहिं मान हित लागि।
तुलसिदास ऐसे प्रभुहि कस न भजहु भ्रम त्यागि॥ 74ख॥

भावार्थ:
उसी प्रकार श्री रघुनाथजी अपने दास का अभिमान उसके हित के लिए हर लेते हैं। तुलसीदासजी कहते हैं कि ऐसे प्रभु को भ्रम त्यागकर क्यों नहीं भजते॥ 74ख॥

English Translation:
Similarly, Lord Raghupati removes His devotees’ pride for their highest well-being. Tulsidas ji says, “Why would one not renounce all attachments and worship such a Lord?”…

राम कृपा आपनि जड़ताई। कहउँ खगेस सुनहु मन लाई॥
जब जब राम मनुज तनु धरहीं। भक्त हेतु लीला बहु करहीं॥1॥

भावार्थ:
हे गरुड़जी! श्री रामजी की कृपा और अपनी जड़ता (मूर्खता) की बात कहता हूँ, मन लगाकर सुनिए। जब-जब श्री रामचंद्रजी मनुष्य शरीर धारण करते हैं और भक्तों के लिए बहुत सी लीलाएँ करते हैं॥1॥

English Translation:
O’ King of Birds, I shall narrate to you the boundless mercy of Lord Ram and my own foolishness, listen with a focused mind. Whenever Lord Ram takes a human avatar and performs numerous divine deeds for the welfare of His devotees,…

तब तब अवधपुरी मैं जाऊँ। बालचरित बिलोकि हरषाऊँ॥
जन्म महोत्सव देखउँ जाई। बरष पाँच तहँ रहउँ लोभाई॥2॥

भावार्थ:
तब-तब मैं अयोध्यापुरी जाता हूँ और उनकी बाल लीला देखकर हर्षित होता हूँ। वहाँ जाकर मैं जन्म महोत्सव देखता हूँ और (भगवान्‌ की शिशु लीला में) लुभाकर पाँच वर्ष तक वहीं रहता हूँ॥2॥

English Translation:
I go to the city of Ayodhya to witness the grand celebrations of His birth and His delightful pastimes as a child. Enchanted by His playful childish acts, I remain in Ayodhya for a period of full five years…

इष्टदेव मम बालक रामा। सोभा बपुष कोटि सत कामा॥
निज प्रभु बदन निहारि निहारी। लोचन सुफल करउँ उरगारी॥3॥

भावार्थ:
बालक रूप श्री रामचंद्रजी मेरे इष्टदेव हैं, जिनके शरीर में अरबों कामदेवों की शोभा है। हे गरुड़जी! अपने प्रभु का मुख देख-देखकर मैं नेत्रों को सफल करता हूँ॥3॥

English Translation:
Child Ram is my beloved deity, in whom resides the beauty of millions of Cupids. O’ Enemy of Serpents, I gaze upon the face of child Ram again and again allowing my eyes to relish the very purpose of their existence.

लघु बायस बपु धरि हरि संगा। देखउँ बालचरित बहु रंगा॥4॥

भावार्थ:
छोटे से कौए का शरीर धरकर और भगवान्‌ के साथ-साथ फिरकर मैं उनके भाँति-भाँति के बाल चरित्रों को देखा करता हूँ॥4॥

English Translation:
I assume the form of a small crow and remain in the company of Lord Hari, witnessing the vibrant, playful acts of His childhood pastimes…

लरिकाईं जहँ जहँ फिरहिं तहँ तहँ संग उड़ाउँ।
जूठनि परइ अजिर महँ सो उठाई करि खाउँ॥ 75क॥

भावार्थ:
लड़कपन में वे जहाँ-जहाँ फिरते हैं, वहाँ-वहाँ मैं साथ-साथ उड़ता हूँ और आँगन में उनकी जो जूठन पड़ती है, वही उठाकर खाता हूँ॥ 75क॥

English Translation:
Wherever baby Ram wandered, I fluttered along with Him, eating the crumbs that fell from His mouth in the courtyard.

एक बार अतिसय सब चरित किए रघुबीर।
सुमिरत प्रभु लीला सोइ पुलकित भयउ सरीर॥ 75ख॥

भावार्थ:
एक बार श्री रघुवीर ने सब चरित्र बहुत अधिकता से किए। प्रभु की उस लीला का स्मरण करते ही काकभुशुण्डिजी का शरीर (प्रेमानन्दवश) पुलकित हो गया॥ 75ख॥

English Translation:
Once Lord Raghuveer performed His childhood exploits to the fullest extent. Thinking of those exploits made every hair on Kak Bhushundi’s body stand erect.

कहइ भसुंड सुनहु खगनायक। राम चरित सेवक सुखदायक॥
नृप मंदिर सुंदर सब भाँती।खचित कनक मनि नाना जाती॥1॥

भावार्थ:
भुशुण्डिजी कहने लगे- हे पक्षीराज! सुनिए, श्री रामजी का चरित्र सेवकों को सुख देने वाला है। (अयोध्या का) राजमहल सब प्रकार से सुंदर है। सोने के महल में नाना प्रकार के रत्न जड़े हुए हैं॥1॥

English Translation:
Kak Bhushundi said, “Listen, O’ King of Birds, the exploits of Shri Ram bring endless delight to His devotees. King Dashrath’s palace was magnificent in every way, crafted of gold and adorned with an array of precious stones…

बरनि न जाइ रुचिर अँगनाई। जहँ खेलहिं नित चारिउ भाई॥
बाल बिनोद करत रघुराई। बिचरत अजिर जननि सुखदाई॥2॥

भावार्थ:
सुंदर आँगन का वर्णन नहीं किया जा सकता, जहाँ चारों भाई नित्य खेलते हैं। माता को सुख देने वाले बालविनोद करते हुए श्री रघुनाथजी आँगन में विचर रहे हैं॥2॥

English Translation:
The delightful courtyard where the four brothers, Shri Ram, Shri Lakshman, Shri Bharat, and Shri Shatrughan, played was beyond description. The finest of the Raghus engaged in playful acts as a child, roaming around the courtyard and filling His mother’s heart with boundless joy…

मरकत मृदुल कलेवर स्यामा। अंग अंग प्रति छबि बहु कामा॥
नव राजीव अरुन मृदु चरना। पदज रुचिर नख ससि दुति हरना॥3॥

भावार्थ:
मरकत मणि के समान हरिताभ श्याम और कोमल शरीर है। अंग-अंग में बहुत से कामदेवों की शोभा छाई हुई है। नवीन (लाल) कमल के समान लाल-लाल कोमल चरण हैं। सुंदर अँगुलियाँ हैं और नख अपनी ज्योति से चंद्रमा की कांति को हरने वाले हैं॥3॥

English Translation:
Lord Ram’s tender form bore a bluish-green complexion, like a radiant emerald, and each limb embodied the beauty of countless Cupids. His soft feet resembled freshly bloomed red lotuses, with enchanting toes and nails that outshone the brilliance of the Moon…

ललित अंक कुलिसादिक चारी। नूपुर चारु मधुर रवकारी॥
चारु पुरट मनि रचित बनाई। कटि किंकिनि कल मुखर सुहाई॥4॥

भावार्थ:
(तलवे में) वज्रादि (वज्र, अंकुश, ध्वजा और कमल) के चार सुंदर चिह्न हैं, चरणों में मधुर शब्द करने वाले सुंदर नूपुर हैं, मणियों, रत्नों से जड़ी हुई सोने की बनी हुई सुंदर करधनी का शब्द सुहावना लग रहा है॥4॥

English Translation:
The soles of His feet bore four auspicious symbols—the thunderbolt, lotus, flag, and goad. He wore charming anklets that jingled sweetly with each step. Around His waist, a gold chain studded with jewels was adorned with tiny bells that produced a gentle, melodious tinkling…

रेखा त्रय सुंदर उदर नाभी रुचिर गँभीर।
उर आयत भ्राजत बिबिधि बाल बिभूषन चीर॥ 76॥

भावार्थ:
उदर पर सुंदर तीन रेखाएँ (त्रिवली) हैं, नाभि सुंदर और गहरी है। विशाल वक्षःस्थल पर अनेकों प्रकार के बच्चों के आभूषण और वस्त्र सुशोभित हैं॥ 76॥
…Baby Ram’s belly had three delightful creases with a charming, deep navel. His broad chest was adorned with various ornaments and clothing, perfectly suited for a child…

अरुन पानि नख करज मनोहर।
बाहु बिसाल बिभूषन सुंदर॥
कंध बाल केहरि दर ग्रीवा।
चारु चिबुक आनन छबि सींवा॥1॥

भावार्थ:
लाल-लाल हथेलियाँ, नख और अँगुलियाँ मन को हरने वाले हैं और विशाल भुजाओं पर सुंदर आभूषण हैं। बालसिंह (सिंह के बच्चे) के से कंधे और शंख के समान (तीन रेखाओं से युक्त) गला है। सुंदर ठुड्डी है और मुख तो छवि की सीमा ही है॥1॥
…His palms had a soft reddish hue, with delicate fingers and lovely nails. His long arms were richly adorned with ornaments, His shoulders resembling those of a lion’s cub, and His neck shaped like a conch. His charming chin and radiant face embodied the very perfection of beauty…

कलबल बचन अधर अरुनारे।
दुइ दुइ दसन बिसद बर बारे॥
ललित कपोल मनोहर नासा।
सकल सुखद ससि कर सम हासा॥2॥

भावार्थ:
कलबल (तोतले) वचन हैं, लाल-लाल होठ हैं। उज्ज्वल, सुंदर और छोटी-छोटी (ऊपर और नीचे) दो-दो दंतुलियाँ हैं। सुंदर गाल, मनोहर नासिका और सब सुखों को देने वाली चंद्रमा की (अथवा सुख देने वाली समस्त कलाओं से पूर्ण चंद्रमा की) किरणों के समान मधुर मुस्कान है॥2॥
…He spoke in a sweet, stuttering voice from his rosy lips. His two pairs of milky teeth, both above and below, added to his charm, along with his delightful cheeks and lovely nose. His pleasing smile was like the Moon’s bright rays bestowing all types of happiness…

नील कंज लोचन भव मोचन।
भ्राजत भाल तिलक गोरोचन॥
बिकट भृकुटि सम श्रवन सुहाए।
कुंचित कच मेचक छबि छाए॥3॥

भावार्थ:
नीले कमल के समान नेत्र जन्म-मृत्यु (के बंधन) से छुड़ाने वाले हैं। ललाट पर गोरोचन का तिलक सुशोभित है। भौंहें टेढ़ी हैं, कान सम और सुंदर हैं, काले और घुँघराले केशों की छबि छा रही है॥3॥
…His blue, lotus-like eyes dispelled all fear of worldly existence, and His forehead bore a sacred yellow pigment mark. He had gracefully arched eyebrows, a charming pair of symmetrical ears, and dark, curly hair that spread an aura of charm all around Him…

पीत झीनि झगुली तन सोही।
किलकनि चितवनि भावति मोही॥
रूप रासि नृप अजिर बिहारी।
नाचहिं निज प्रतिबिंब निहारी॥4॥

भावार्थ:
पीली और महीन झँगुली शरीर पर शोभा दे रही है। उनकी किलकारी और चितवन मुझे बहुत ही प्रिय लगती है। राजा दशरथजी के आँगन में विहार करने वाले रूप की राशि श्री रामचंद्रजी अपनी परछाहीं देखकर नाचते हैं,॥4॥
…Draped in a fine yellow garment over His bluish-hued body, He looked enchanting. His playful squeals and glances captivated my heart. Roaming in the courtyard of King Dashrath, baby Ram was the very epitome of beauty, joyfully dancing as He gazed at His own shadow…

मोहि सन करहिं बिबिधि बिधि क्रीड़ा।
बरनत मोहि होति अति ब्रीड़ा॥
किलकत मोहि धरन जब धावहिं।
चलउँ भागि तब पूप देखावहिं॥5॥

भावार्थ:
और मुझसे बहुत प्रकार के खेल करते हैं, जिन चरित्रों का वर्णन करते मुझे लज्जा आती है! किलकारी मारते हुए जब वे मुझे पकड़ने दौड़ते और मैं भाग चलता, तब मुझे पूआ दिखलाते थे॥5॥
…He played with me in so many ways, and I feel shy even recalling Shri Ram’s delightful antics. Shrieking with joy as He ran to catch hold of me, I would fly away; then, with a playful smile, He would tempt me back by holding out a piece of sweet cake…

आवत निकट हँसहिं प्रभु भाजत रुदन कराहिं।
जाऊँ समीप गहन पद फिरि फिरि चितइ पराहिं॥ 77क॥

भावार्थ:
मेरे निकट आने पर प्रभु हँसते हैं और भाग जाने पर रोते हैं और जब मैं उनका चरण स्पर्श करने के लिए पास जाता हूँ, तब वे पीछे फिर-फिरकर मेरी ओर देखते हुए भाग जाते हैं॥77क॥
…When I fluttered near the Lord, He laughed; and when I drifted away, He wept. Each time I drew close and grasped His feet, He would dash away, glancing back at me over and over…

प्राकृत सिसु इव लीला देखि भयउ मोहि मोह।
कवन चरित्र करत प्रभु चिदानंद संदोह॥ 77ख॥

भावार्थ:
साधारण बच्चों जैसी लीला देखकर मुझे मोह (शंका) हुआ कि सच्चिदानंदघन प्रभु यह कौन (महत्त्व का) चरित्र (लीला) कर रहे हैं॥ 77ख॥
…I was mesmerized by His playful, childlike antics, which were so much like that of any ordinary child. I wondered, what role is the Lord enacting, He who is meant to embody all spiritual knowledge, consciousness, and bliss?…

एतना मन आनत खगराया।
रघुपति प्रेरित ब्यापी माया॥
सो माया न दुखद मोहि कहीं।
आन जीव इव संसृत नाहीं॥1॥

भावार्थ:
हे पक्षीराज! मन में इतनी (शंका) लाते ही श्री रघुनाथजी के द्वारा प्रेरित माया मुझ पर छा गई, परंतु वह माया न तो मुझे दुःख देने वाली हुई और न दूसरे जीवों की भाँति संसार में डालने वाली हुई॥1॥
…O’ King of Birds, the moment this doubt entered my heart, the illusory power stirred by Lord Raghupati took hold of me. Yet, that Maya brought me no suffering, nor did it hurl me into the endless cycles of worldly existence as it does with others…

नाथ इहाँ कछु कारन आना।
सुनहु सो सावधान हरिजाना॥
ग्यान अखंड एक सीताबर।
माया बस्य जीव सचराचर॥2॥

भावार्थ:
हे नाथ! यहाँ कुछ दूसरा ही कारण है। हे भगवान्‌ के वाहन गरुड़जी! उसे सावधान होकर सुनिए। एक सीतापति श्री रामजी ही अखंड मानवस्वरूप हैं और जड़-चेतन सभी जीव माया के वश हैं॥2॥
…O’ Lord, there is another reason for this; listen with full attention, O’ mount of Lord Hari. The Lord of Sita, the embodiment of supreme knowledge, has all beings, animate and inanimate, under the control of His Maya…

जौं सब कें रह ज्ञान एकरस।
ईस्वर जीवहि भेद कहहु कस॥
माया बस्य जीव अभिमानी।
ईस बस्य माया गुन खानी॥3॥

भावार्थ:
यदि जीवों को एकरस (अखंड) ज्ञान रहे, तो कहिए, फिर ईश्वर और जीव में भेद ही कैसा? अभिमानी जीव माया के वश है और वह (सत्त्व, रज, तम इन) तीनों गुणों की खान माया ईश्वर के वश में है॥3॥
…If all living beings held the same perfect wisdom, what, then, would distinguish them from God? The egocentric soul remains bound by Maya and its modes of nature (Goodness, Passion and Ignorance), while Maya itself is subordinate to the Lord…

परबस जीव स्वबस भगवंता।
जीव अनेक एक श्रीकंता॥
मुधा भेद जद्यपि कृत माया।
बिनु हरि जाइ न कोटि उपाया॥4॥

भावार्थ:
जीव परतंत्र है, भगवान्‌ स्वतंत्र हैं, जीव अनेक हैं, श्रीपति भगवान्‌ एक हैं। यद्यपि माया का किया हुआ यह भेद असत्‌ है तथापि वह भगवान्‌ के भजन बिना करोड़ों उपाय करने पर भी नहीं जा सकता॥4॥
…The living being is subject to the control of Maya, while the Lord remains fully independent. There are countless beings, yet only One Supreme Lord, the beloved of Shri Lakshmi. Though this difference created by Maya is ultimately an illusion, it cannot be dispelled through countless remedies; only by the grace of Lord Hari can it fade away.

रामचंद्र के भजन बिनु जो चह पद निर्बान।
ग्यानवंत अपि सो नर पसु बिनु पूँछ बिषान॥ 78क॥

भावार्थ:
श्री रामचंद्रजी के भजन बिना जो मोक्ष पद चाहता है, वह मनुष्य ज्ञानवान्‌ होने पर भी बिना पूँछ और सींग का पशु है॥ 78क॥

English Translation:
A person who seeks liberation without devotion to Shri Ramchandra, no matter how wise, is like an animal without tail or horns…

राकापति षोड़स उअहिं तारागन समुदाइ।
सकल गिरिन्ह दव लाइअ बिनु रबि राति न जाइ॥ 78ख॥

भावार्थ:
सभी तारागणों के साथ सोलह कलाओं से पूर्ण चंद्रमा उदय हो और जितने पर्वत हैं उन सब में दावाग्नि लगा दी जाए, तो भी सूर्य के उदय हुए बिना रात्रि नहीं जा सकती॥ 78ख॥

English Translation:
Even if the full Moon rises with all its sixteen phases, accompanied by a cluster of stars, and all the mountains are set ablaze, the night will not end until the Sun appears…

ऐसेहिं हरि बिनु भजन खगेसा।
मिटइ न जीवन्ह केर कलेसा॥
हरि सेवकहि न ब्याप अबिद्या।
प्रभु प्रेरित ब्यापइ तेहि बिद्या॥1॥

भावार्थ:
हे पक्षीराज! इसी प्रकार श्री हरि के भजन बिना जीवों का क्लेश नहीं मिटता। श्री हरि के सेवक को अविद्या नहीं व्यापती। प्रभु की प्रेरणा से उसे विद्या व्यापती है॥1॥

English Translation:
O’ King of Birds, similarly, without worshipping Lord Hari, the hardships of life do not fade away. Yet, ignorance or Maya holds no sway over the devotees of the Lord and under His inspiration, knowledge prevails within them…

ताते नास न होइ दास कर।
भेद भगति बाढ़इ बिहंगबर॥
भ्रम तें चकित राम मोहि देखा।
बिहँसे सो सुनु चरित बिसेषा॥2॥

भावार्थ:
हे पक्षीश्रेष्ठ! इससे दास का नाश नहीं होता और भेद भक्ति बढ़ती है। श्री रामजी ने मुझे जब भ्रम से चकित देखा, तब वे हँसे। वह विशेष चरित्र सुनिए॥2॥

English Translation:
O’ Finest amongst birds, in this way, a servant of the Lord does not fall prey to the clutches of Maya. Instead, his devotion to the Lord deepens, enriched by an ever more profound knowledge of the divine. When Shri Ram witnessed me in a state of bewilderment, He laughed heartily. Now, listen to this part of the story…

तेहि कौतुक कर मरमु न काहूँ।
जाना अनुज न मातु पिताहूँ॥
जानु पानि धाए मोहि धरना।
स्यामल गात अरुन कर चरना॥3॥

भावार्थ:
उस खेल का मर्म किसी ने नहीं जाना, न छोटे भाइयों ने और न माता-पिता ने ही। वे श्याम शरीर और लाल-लाल हथेली और चरणतल वाले बाल रूप श्री रामजी घुटने और हाथों के बल मुझे पकड़ने को दौड़े॥3॥

English Translation:
Neither Shri Ram’s younger brothers nor His parents, though all present there, became aware of this secret. Baby Ram, with a bluish-hued complexion and rosy hands and feet, crawled on His hands and knees, trying to catch me…

तब मैं भागि चलेउँ उरगारी।
राम गहन कहँ भुजा पसारी॥
जिमि जिमि दूरि उड़ाउँ अकासा।
तहँ भुज हरि देखउँ निज पासा॥4॥

भावार्थ:
हे सर्पों के शत्रु गरुड़जी! तब मैं भाग चला। श्री रामजी ने मुझे पकड़ने के लिए भुजा फैलाई। मैं जैसे-जैसे आकाश में दूर उड़ता, वैसे-वैसे ही वहाँ श्री हरि की भुजा को अपने पास देखता था॥4॥

English Translation:
Then I flew away, O’ Enemy of Serpents. Shri Ram stretched out His arm to catch hold of me. No matter how far I flew into the sky, I saw Lord Hari’s arm reaching close to me.

ब्रह्मलोक लगि गयउँ मैं चितयउँ पाछ उड़ात।
जुग अंगुल कर बीच सब राम भुजहि मोहि तात॥ 79क॥

भावार्थ:

सातों आवरणों को भेदकर जहाँ तक मेरी गति थी वहाँ तक मैं गया। पर वहाँ भी प्रभु की भुजा को (अपने पीछे) देखकर मैं व्याकुल हो गया॥ 79ख॥

English Translation:
I penetrated the seven layers of the cosmos (water, air, fire, space, cosmic ego, cosmic intellect, and nature) and ascended to the highest point I could reach. Yet even there, I saw the Lord’s arm pursuing me, leaving me deeply distressed…

मूदेउँ नयन त्रसित जब भयउँ।
पुनि चितवत कोसलपुर गयऊँ॥
मोहि बिलोकि राम मुसुकाहीं।
बिहँसत तुरत गयउँ मुख माहीं॥1॥

भावार्थ:
जब मैं भयभीत हो गया, तब मैंने आँखें मूँद लीं। फिर आँखें खोलकर देखते ही अवधपुरी में पहुँच गया। मुझे देखकर श्री रामजी मुस्कुराने लगे। उनके हँसते ही मैं तुरंत उनके मुख में चला गया॥1॥

English Translation:
In my fearful state, I closed my eyes; upon reopening them, I found myself in Ayodhya. There, I saw the infant Lord Ram smiling at me. As soon as he laughed loudly, I was instantly drawn into his mouth…

उदर माझ सुनु अंडज राया। देखउँ बहु ब्रह्मांड निकाया॥
अति बिचित्र तहँ लोक अनेका। रचना अधिक एक ते एका॥2॥

भावार्थ:
हे पक्षीराज! सुनिए, मैंने उनके पेट में बहुत से ब्रह्माण्डों के समूह देखे। वहाँ (उन ब्रह्माण्डों में) अनेकों विचित्र लोक थे, जिनकी रचना एक से एक की बढ़कर थी॥2॥

English Translation:
O’ King of Birds, within Lord Ram’s belly, I beheld countless clusters of universes, each with distinct spheres, each more wonderful than the rest…

कोटिन्ह चतुरानन गौरीसा। अगनित उडगन रबि रजनीसा॥
अगनित लोकपाल जम काला। अगनित भूधर भूमि बिसाला॥3॥

भावार्थ:
करोड़ों ब्रह्माजी और शिवजी, अनगिनत तारागण, सूर्य और चंद्रमा, अनगिनत लोकपाल, यम और काल, अनगिनत विशाल पर्वत और भूमि॥3॥

English Translation:
I beheld countless Lord Brahmas and Lord Shivs, innumerable stars, Suns, and Moons. There were myriad guardians of realms, Demigods of Death and Time, innumerable mountains, and vast landmasses…

सागर सरि सर बिपिन अपारा। नाना भाँति सृष्टि बिस्तारा॥
सुर मुनि सिद्ध नाग नर किंनर। चारि प्रकार जीव सचराचर॥4॥

भावार्थ:
असंख्य समुद्र, नदी, तालाब और वन तथा और भी नाना प्रकार की सृष्टि का विस्तार देखा। देवता, मुनि, सिद्ध, नाग, मनुष्य, किन्नर तथा चारों प्रकार के जड़ और चेतन जीव देखे॥4॥

English Translation:
Oceans, rivers, lakes, and endless forests. I observed a manifold variety of creation, including Demigods, Sages, realized Saints, Serpents, Human beings, and Kinnars. All four categories of animate and inanimate beings were present…

जो नहिं देखा नहिं सुना जो मनहूँ न समाइ।
सो सब अद्भुत देखेउँ बरनि कवनि बिधि जाइ॥80क॥

भावार्थ:
जो कभी न देखा था, न सुना था और जो मन में भी नहीं समा सकता था, वही सब अद्भुत सृष्टि मैंने देखी। तब उसका किस प्रकार वर्णन किया जाए!॥80क॥

English Translation:
I witnessed marvels I had never seen or heard of, beyond what even the mind could conceive—how, then, could I possibly describe them?

एक एक ब्रह्मांड महुँ रहउँ बरष सत एक।
एहि बिधि देखत फिरउँ मैं अंड कटाह अनेक॥80ख॥

भावार्थ:
मैं एक-एक ब्रह्माण्ड में एक-एक सौ वर्ष तक रहता। इस प्रकार मैं अनेकों ब्रह्माण्ड देखता फिरा॥80ख॥

English Translation:
I dwelled in each Universe for a hundred years, witnessing and wandering through countless egg-shaped cosmos in this way…

लोक लोक प्रति भिन्न बिधाता। भिन्न बिष्नु सिव मनु दिसित्राता॥
नर गंधर्ब भूत बेताला। किंनर निसिचर पसुखग ब्याला॥1॥

भावार्थ:
प्रत्येक लोक में भिन्न-भिन्न ब्रह्मा, विष्णु, शिव, मनु, दिक्पाल, मनुष्य, गंधर्व, भूत, वैताल, किन्नर, राक्षस, पशु, पक्षी, सर्प॥1॥

English Translation:
Each Universe had its own Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiv, Manu, and Guardians of the realms, along with unique beings – humans, Gandharvs, goblins, ghosts, Kinnars, spirits, animals, birds, serpents…

देव दनुज गन नाना जाती। सकल जीव तहँ आनहि भाँती॥
महि सरि सागर सर गिरि नाना। सब प्रपंच तहँ आनइ आना॥2॥

भावार्थ:
नाना जाति के देवता एवं दैत्यगण थे। सभी जीव वहाँ दूसरे ही प्रकार के थे। अनेक पृथ्वी, नदी, समुद्र, तालाब, पर्वत तथा सब सृष्टि वहाँ दूसरी ही थी॥2॥

English Translation:
Demigods, and demons of every class. Every creature possessed a form distinct to its own Universe. The Earth, with its countless rivers, oceans, mountains, and all of creation within each Universe, was different in every way…

अंडकोस प्रति प्रति निज रूपा। दाखेउँ जिनस अनेक अनूपा॥
अवधपुरी प्रति भुवन निनारी। सरजू भिन्न भिन्न नर नारी॥3॥

भावार्थ:
प्रत्येक ब्रह्माण्ड में मैंने अपना रूप देखा तथा अनेकों अनुपम वस्तुएँ देखीं। प्रत्येक भुवन में न्यारी अवधपुरी, भिन्न सरयू और भिन्न नर-नारी थे॥3॥

English Translation:
I saw myself in each Universe and witnessed countless unique wonders. Each Universe had its own Ayodhya, with its own Saryu River and its own men and women…

दसरथ कौसल्या सुनु ताता। बिबिध रूप भरतादिक भ्राता॥
प्रति ब्रह्मांड राम अवतारा। देखउँ बालबिनोद अपारा॥4॥

भावार्थ:
हे तात! दशरथजी, कौसल्याजी और भरत आदि भाई भी भिन्न-भिन्न रूपों के थे। मैं प्रत्येक ब्रह्माण्ड में श्रीराम का अवतार और उनकी अपार बाल लीलाएँ देखता॥4॥

English Translation:
Listen, O’ Master, even King Dashrath, Mother Kaushalya, the other Queens, Bharat ji, and Shri Ram’s other Brothers were different in each Universe. I witnessed Lord Ram’s incarnation and His countless, varied childhood pastimes in each of these Universes…

भिन्न भिन्न मैं दीख सबु अति बिचित्र हरिजान।
अगनित भुवन फिरेउँ प्रभु राम न देखेउँ आन॥81क॥

भावार्थ:
हे हरिवाहन! मैंने सभी कुछ भिन्न-भिन्न और अत्यंत विचित्र देखा। मैं अनगिनत ब्रह्माण्डों में फिरा, पर श्रीराम को मैंने दूसरी तरह का नहीं देखा॥81क॥

English Translation:
O’ Mount of Lord Hari, I have seen each Universe, each unique in its own way, and wandered through countless galaxies. Yet, I did not encounter a Lord Ram who appeared any different…

सोइ सिसुपन सोइ सोभा सोइ कृपाल रघुबीर।
भुवन भुवन देखत फिरउँ प्रेरित मोह समीर॥81ख॥

भावार्थ:
सर्वत्र वही शिशुपन, वही शोभा और वही कृपालु श्री रघुबीर! मोह रूपी वायु के प्रेरण से मैं भुवन-भुवन में देखता फिरता था॥81ख॥

English Translation:
I beheld the same childlike playfulness, the same beauty, and the same gracious Raghuveer as I wandered from one Universe to another, driven by the winds of Maya…

भ्रमत मोहि ब्रह्मांड अनेका। बीते मनहुँ कल्प सत एका॥
फिरत फिरत निज आश्रम आयउँ। तहँ पुनि रहि कछु काल गवाँयउँ॥1॥

भावार्थ:
अनेक ब्रह्माण्डों में भटकते मुझे मानो एक सौ कल्प बीत गए। फिरता-फिरता मैं अपने आश्रम में आया और वहाँ कुछ समय बिताया॥1॥

English Translation:
After wandering through countless Universes, it felt as though hundreds of eras had passed. At last, I returned to my own hermitage and spent some time dwelling there…

निज प्रभु जन्म अवध सुनि पायउँ। निर्भर प्रेम हरषि उठि धायउँ॥
देखउँ जन्म महोत्सव जाई। जेहि बिधि प्रथम कहा मैं गाई॥2॥

भावार्थ:
जब अपने प्रभु का अवधपुरी में जन्म (अवतार) सुन पाया, तब प्रेम से परिपूर्ण होकर मैं हर्षपूर्वक दौड़ा। जाकर मैंने जन्म महोत्सव देखा, जैसा मैंने पहले वर्णन किया है॥2॥

English Translation:
Then, upon hearing news of my Lord’s birth in Ayodhya, I ran with overwhelming ecstasy and love to witness the joyous celebration of Shri Ram’s arrival. I have already recounted this to you…

राम उदर देखेउँ जग नाना। देखत बनइ न जाइ बखाना॥
तहँ पुनि देखेउँ राम सुजाना। माया पति कृपाल भगवाना॥3॥

भावार्थ:
श्रीराम के पेट में मैंने बहुत से जगत देखे, जो देखते ही बनते थे, वर्णन नहीं हो सकते। वहाँ मैंने फिर से माया के स्वामी कृपालु भगवान् श्रीराम को देखा॥3॥

English Translation:
Thus, within Lord Ram’s belly, I beheld countless worlds, each distinct. But what I witnessed could only be truly grasped by sight. There, once again, I beheld the divine Lord Ram, the gracious and all-wise master of Maya…

करउँ बिचार बहोरि बहोरी। मोह कलिल ब्यापित मति मोरी॥
उभय घरी महँ मैं सब देखा। भयउँ भ्रमित मन मोह बिसेषा॥4॥

भावार्थ:
मैं बार-बार विचार करता रहा। मेरी बुद्धि मोह रूपी कीचड़ से भर गई थी। यह सब मैंने दो घड़ी (४८ मिनट) में देखा। मन मोह में विशेष रूप से भ्रमित हो गया था॥4॥

English Translation:
I pondered again and again, but my mind was mired in a thick sludge of delusion. In a span of forty-eight minutes, I saw everything, my heart utterly bewildered by infatuation…

देखि कृपाल बिकल मोहि बिहँसे तब रघुबीर।
बिहँसतहीं मुख बाहेर आयउँ सुनु मतिधीर॥82क॥

भावार्थ:
मुझे व्याकुल देखकर तब कृपालु श्री रघुवीर हँस दिए। हे धीर बुद्धि गरुड़जी! सुनिए, उनके हँसते ही मैं मुँह से बाहर आ गया॥82क॥

English Translation:
Upon seeing my distress, the merciful Shri Raghuveer laughed loudly, and with that very laughter, I was expelled from His mouth, O’ One with an ever-composed mind, Garud ji…

सोइ लरिकाई मो सन करन लगे पुनि राम।
कोटि भाँति समुझावउँ मनु न लहइ बिश्राम॥82ख॥

भावार्थ:
श्री रामचंद्रजी मेरे साथ फिर वही लड़कपन करने लगे। मैं करोड़ों (असंख्य) प्रकार से मन को समझाता था, पर वह शांति नहीं पाता था॥82ख॥

English Translation:
Shri Ram once again began His playful pranks with me. I tried to reason with my heart in countless ways, but it found no peace…

देखि चरित यह सो प्रभुताई।
समुझत देह दसा बिसराई॥
धरनि परेउँ मुख आव न बाता।
त्राहि त्राहि आरत जन त्राता॥1॥

भावार्थ:
यह (बाल) चरित्र देखकर और पेट के अंदर (देखी हुई) उस प्रभुता का स्मरण कर मैं शरीर की सुध भूल गया और हे आर्तजनों के रक्षक! रक्षा कीजिए, रक्षा कीजिए, पुकारता हुआ पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़ा। मुख से बात नहीं निकलती थी!॥1॥

English Translation:
Witnessing His playful acts and recalling the divine glory I had seen within His belly, I lost all awareness of my body. Crying out, “Save me, save me, O’ Protector of devotees in distress”, I collapsed to the ground, unable to utter another word…

प्रेमाकुल प्रभु मोहि बिलोकी।
निज माया प्रभुता तब रोकी॥
कर सरोज प्रभु मम सिर धरेऊ।
दीनदयाल सकल दुख हरेऊ॥2॥

भावार्थ:
तदनन्तर प्रभु ने मुझे प्रेमविह्वल देखकर अपनी माया की प्रभुता (प्रभाव) को रोक लिया। प्रभु ने अपना करकमल मेरे सिर पर रखा। दीनदयालु ने मेरा संपूर्ण दुःख हर लिया॥2॥

English Translation:
Seeing me overwhelmed with love, the Lord immediately withdrew the power of His Maya. Gracious upon the supplicant, He gently placed His lotus-like hand on my head, relieving me of all my distress…

कीन्ह राम मोहि बिगत बिमोहा।
सेवक सुखद कृपा संदोहा॥
प्रभुता प्रथम बिचारि बिचारी।
मन महँ होइ हरष अति भारी॥3॥

भावार्थ:
सेवकों को सुख देने वाले, कृपा के समूह (कृपामय) श्री रामजी ने मुझे मोह से सर्वथा रहित कर दिया। उनकी पहले वाली प्रभुता को विचार-विचारकर (याद कर-करके) मेरे मन में बड़ा भारी हर्ष हुआ॥3॥

English Translation:
Shri Ram, the joy of His devotees and a boundless reservoir of mercy, freed me from all infatuation. Recalling again and again the Lord’s divine glory that I had first witnessed within His belly, I was filled with immense joy…

भगत बछलता प्रभु कै देखी।
उपजी मम उर प्रीति बिसेषी॥
सजल नयन पुलकित कर जोरी।
कीन्हिउँ बहु बिधि बिनय बहोरी॥4॥

भावार्थ:
प्रभु की भक्तवत्सलता देखकर मेरे हृदय में बहुत ही प्रेम उत्पन्न हुआ। फिर मैंने (आनंद से) नेत्रों में जल भरकर, पुलकित होकर और हाथ जोड़कर बहुत प्रकार से विनती की॥4॥

English Translation:
Seeing the Lord’s boundless affection for His devotees, my heart overflowed with love for Him. My eyes filled with tears and every feather standing on end, I offered supplications to the Lord in many ways, my wings folded in reverence…

सुनि सप्रेम मम बानी देखि दीन निज दास।
बचन सुखद गंभीर मृदु बोले रमानिवास॥83क॥

भावार्थ:
मेरी प्रेमयुक्त वाणी सुनकर और अपने दास को दीन देखकर रमानिवास श्री रामजी सुखदायक, गंभीर और कोमल वचन बोले-॥83क॥

काकभसुंडि मागु बर अति प्रसन्न मोहि जानि।
अनिमादिक सिधि अपर रिधि मोच्छ सकल सुख खानि॥83ख॥

भावार्थ:
हे काकभुशुण्डि! तू मुझे अत्यंत प्रसन्न जानकर वर माँग। अणिमा आदि अष्ट सिद्धियाँ, दूसरी ऋद्धियाँ तथा संपूर्ण सुखों की खान मोक्ष,॥83ख॥

English Translation:
Kak Bhushundi, knowing that I am extremely pleased with you, ask a boon from me. I can grant you the eight types of divine powers, success and prosperity, and liberation, which is regarded as the source of all bliss…

ग्यान बिबेक बिरति बिग्याना।
मुनि दुर्लभ गुन जे जग नाना॥
आजु देउँ सब संसय नाहीं।
मागु जो तोहि भाव मन माहीं॥1॥

भावार्थ:
ज्ञान, विवेक, वैराग्य, विज्ञान, (तत्त्वज्ञान) और वे अनेकों गुण जो जगत्‌ में मुनियों के लिए भी दुर्लभ हैं, ये सब मैं आज तुझे दूँगा, इसमें संदेह नहीं। जो तेरे मन भावे, सो माँग ले॥1॥

English Translation:
Or spiritual knowledge, wisdom, dispassion, enlightenment, and virtues that even realized saints find difficult to attain in this world, I will grant you all of these today, without a doubt. So ask for whatever your heart desires.

सुनि प्रभु बचन अधिक अनुरागेउँ।
मन अनुमान करन तब लागेउँ॥
प्रभु कह देन सकल सुख सही।
भगति आपनी देन न कही॥2॥

भावार्थ:
प्रभु के वचन सुनकर मैं बहुत ही प्रेम में भर गया। तब मन में अनुमान करने लगा कि प्रभु ने सब सुखों के देने की बात कही, यह तो सत्य है, पर अपनी भक्ति देने की बात नहीं कही॥2॥

English Translation:
Hearing the Lord’s words, I was overwhelmed with love and began to ponder in my heart that, although the Lord had offered me all forms of happiness, He had not granted me the privilege of His worship…

भगति हीन गुन सब सुख ऐसे।
लवन बिना बहु बिंजन जैसे॥
भजन हीन सुख कवने काजा।
अस बिचारि बोलेउँ खगराजा॥3॥

भावार्थ:
भक्ति से रहित सब गुण और सब सुख वैसे ही (फीके) हैं जैसे नमक के बिना बहुत प्रकार के भोजन के पदार्थ। भजन से रहित सुख किस काम के? हे पक्षीराज! ऐसा विचार कर मैं बोला-॥3॥

English Translation:
And without devotion to the Lord, all virtues and blessings are like a feast of dishes without salt. There is no true happiness without devotion.” With this thought in my heart, O’ King of Birds, I spoke these words:

जौं प्रभु होइ प्रसन्न बर देहू।
मो पर करहु कृपा अरु नेहू॥
मन भावत बर मागउँ स्वामी।
तुम्ह उदार उर अंतरजामी॥4॥

भावार्थ:
हे प्रभो! यदि आप प्रसन्न होकर मुझे वर देते हैं और मुझ पर कृपा और स्नेह करते हैं, तो हे स्वामी! मैं अपना मनभाया वर माँगता हूँ। आप उदार हैं और हृदय के भीतर की जानने वाले हैं॥4॥

English Translation:
My Lord, if You are pleased to grant me a boon and if Your grace and affection are upon me, then hey Master, I ask You to grant me my most cherished desire. O’ Master, for You are generous and know the secrets of all hearts…

अबिरल भगति बिसुद्ध तव श्रुति पुरान जो गाव।
जेहि खोजत जोगीस मुनि प्रभु प्रसाद कोउ पाव॥84क॥

भावार्थ:
आपकी जिस अविरल (प्रगाढ़) एवं विशुद्ध (अनन्य निष्काम) भक्ति को श्रुति और पुराण गाते हैं, जिसे योगीश्वर मुनि खोजते हैं और प्रभु की कृपा से कोई विरला ही जिसे पाता है॥84क॥

English Translation:
O’ Lord, bless me with that same pure and steadfast devotion, praised in the Vedas and Puranas, which enlightened yogis and saints have sought, yet only a rare few attain through Your grace…

भगत कल्पतरू प्रनत हित कृपा सिंधु सुखधाम।
सोइ निज भगति मोहि प्रभु देहु दया करि राम॥84ख॥

भावार्थ:
हे भक्तों के (मन इच्छित फल देने वाले) कल्पवृक्ष! हे शरणागत के हितकारी! हे कृपासागर! हे सुखधान श्री रामजी! दया करके मुझे अपनी वही भक्ति दीजिए॥84ख॥

English Translation:
You are the wish-fulfilling tree, the Kalpavriksh, for Your devotees and the compassionate well-wisher of those who surrender to You, O’ Ocean of mercy and abode of bliss. Please be merciful to me, my Lord, and bless me with that same deep devotion to You, O’ Shri Ram.

एवमस्तु कहि रघुकुलनायक।
बोले बचन परम सुखदायक॥
सुनु बायस तैं सहज सयाना।
काहे न मागसि अस बरदाना॥1॥

भावार्थ:
‘एवमस्तु’ (ऐसा ही हो) कहकर रघुवंश के स्वामी परम सुख देने वाले वचन बोले- हे काक! सुन, तू स्वभाव से ही बुद्धिमान्‌ है। ऐसा वरदान कैसे न माँगता?॥1॥

English Translation:
The King of Raghu’s clan spoke in the most pleasing words, “So be it. Listen, O’ Kak Bhushundi, you are wise by nature; it is no surprise, then, that you ask for this boon…

सब सुख खानि भगति तैं मागी।
नहिं जग कोउ तोहि सम बड़भागी॥
जो मुनि कोटि जतन नहिं लहहीं।
जे जप जोग अनल तन दहहीं॥2॥

भावार्थ:
तूने सब सुखों की खान भक्ति माँग ली, जगत्‌ में तेरे समान बड़भागी कोई नहीं है। वे मुनि जो जप और योग की अग्नि से शरीर जलाते रहते हैं, करोड़ों यत्न करके भी जिसको (जिस भक्ति को) नहीं पाते॥2॥

English Translation:
…You have asked for the gift of devotion, which is the root of all blessings. There is no one in the world as blessed as you. Even sages who subject their bodies to intense penance, chanting, and yoga are unable to attain what you have sought…

रीझेउँ देखि तोरि चतुराई।
मागेहु भगति मोहि अति भाई॥
सुनु बिहंग प्रसाद अब मोरें।
सब सुभ गुन बसिहहिं उर तोरें॥3॥

भावार्थ:
वही भक्ति तूने माँगी। तेरी चतुरता देखकर मैं रीझ गया। यह चतुरता मुझे बहुत ही अच्छी लगी। हे पक्षी! सुन, मेरी कृपा से अब समस्त शुभ गुण तेरे हृदय में बसेंगे॥3॥

English Translation:
…I am impressed by your wisdom in seeking my devotion, which is so dear to my heart. Listen, O’ Bird, by my grace, all noble virtues will now dwell within your heart…

भगति ग्यान बिग्यान बिरागा।
जोग चरित्र रहस्य बिभागा॥
जानब तैं सबही कर भेदा।
मम प्रसाद नहिं साधन खेदा॥4॥

भावार्थ:
भक्ति, ज्ञान, विज्ञान, वैराग्य, योग, मेरी लीलाएँ और उनके रहस्य तथा विभाग- इन सबके भेद को तू मेरी कृपा से ही जान जाएगा। तुझे साधन का कष्ट नहीं होगा॥4॥

English Translation:
…Devotion, spiritual wisdom, true knowledge, dispassion, yoga, and insight into my deeds, their mysteries, and classifications, all of these shall be granted to you by my grace. You shall not need to endure the hardships of penance to attain them…

माया संभव भ्रम सब अब न ब्यापिहहिं तोहि।
जानेसु ब्रह्म अनादि अज अगुन गुनाकर मोहि॥85क॥

भावार्थ:
माया से उत्पन्न सब भ्रम अब तुझको नहीं व्यापेंगे। मुझे अनादि, अजन्मा, अगुण (प्रकृति के गुणों से रहित) और (गुणातीत दिव्य) गुणों की खान ब्रह्म जानना॥85क॥

English Translation:
…For now, all delusions caused by Maya will have no power over you. Know me as the Supreme Lord, without beginning or end, unborn, beyond material qualities, and the source of all virtues…

मोहि भगत प्रिय संतत अस बिचारि सुनु काग।
कायँ बचन मन मम पद करेसु अचल अनुराग॥85ख॥

भावार्थ:
हे काक! सुन, मुझे भक्त निरंतर प्रिय हैं, ऐसा विचार कर शरीर, वचन और मन से मेरे चरणों में अटल प्रेम करना॥85ख॥

…Listen, Kak Bhushundi, my devotees are always dear to me. Bearing this in mind, nurture unwavering devotion for my lotus feet in thought, word, and deed…

अब सुनु परम बिमल मम बानी।
सत्य सुगम निगमादि बखानी॥
निज सिद्धांत सुनावउँ तोही।
सुनु मन धरु सब तजि भजु मोही॥1॥

भावार्थ:
अब मेरी सत्य, सुगम, वेदादि के द्वारा वर्णित परम निर्मल वाणी सुन। मैं तुझको यह ‘निज सिद्धांत’ सुनाता हूँ। सुनकर मन में धारण कर और सब तजकर मेरा भजन कर॥1॥

English Translation:
…Now listen to my most sacred teaching, which is true, straightforward, and extolled in the Vedas and the Puranas. I will share with you my own steadfast view on this matter. Listen carefully, fix your heart upon my words, and worship me, renouncing all else…

मम माया संभव संसारा। जीव चराचर बिबिधि प्रकारा॥
सब मम प्रिय सब मम उपजाए। सब ते अधिक मनुज मोहि भाए॥2॥

भावार्थ:
यह सारा संसार मेरी माया से उत्पन्न है। (इसमें) अनेकों प्रकार के चराचर जीव हैं। वे सभी मुझे प्रिय हैं, क्योंकि सभी मेरे उत्पन्न किए हुए हैं। (किंतु) मनुष्य मुझको सबसे अधिक अच्छे लगते हैं॥2॥

English Translation:
This world with all its varieties of life, both animate and inanimate, is a creation of my Maya. All are dear to me, for I have created them all. Yet human beings are dearest to me…

तिन्ह महँ द्विज द्विज महँ श्रुतिधारी। तिन्ह महुँ निगम धरम अनुसारी॥
तिन्ह महँ प्रिय बिरक्त पुनि ग्यानी। ग्यानिहु ते अति प्रिय बिग्यानी॥3॥

भावार्थ:
उन मनुष्यों में द्विज, द्विजों में भी वेदों को (कंठ में) धारण करने वाले, उनमें भी वेदोक्त धर्म पर चलने वाले, उनमें भी विरक्त (वैराग्यवान्‌) मुझे प्रिय हैं। वैराग्यवानों में फिर ज्ञानी और ज्ञानियों से भी अत्यंत प्रिय विज्ञानी हैं॥3॥

English Translation:
Among human beings, the Brahmins are dear to me; among Brahmins, those well-versed in the Vedas; among them, those who follow the path prescribed by the Vedas; and of these, those detached from material pleasures are dearer still. More than these, I cherish the wise, and above all, the enlightened souls hold the closest place in my heart…

तिन्ह ते पुनि मोहि प्रिय निज दासा। जेहि गति मोरि न दूसरि आसा॥
पुनि पुनि सत्य कहउँ तोहि पाहीं। मोहि सेवक सम प्रिय कोउ नाहीं॥4॥

भावार्थ:
विज्ञानियों से भी प्रिय मुझे अपना दास है, जिसे मेरी ही गति (आश्रय) है, कोई दूसरी आशा नहीं है। मैं तुझसे बार-बार सत्य (‘निज सिद्धांत’) कहता हूँ कि मुझे अपने सेवक के समान प्रिय कोई भी नहीं है॥4॥

English Translation:
Even more beloved to me than these is my own devotee, who depends solely on me and holds no other hope. I tell you this truth again and again: no one is dearer to me than my devotee…

भगति हीन बिरंचि किन होई। सब जीवहु सम प्रिय मोहि सोई॥
भगतिवंत अति नीचउ प्रानी। मोहि प्रानप्रिय असि मम बानी॥5॥

भावार्थ:
भक्तिहीन ब्रह्मा ही क्यों न हो, वह मुझे सब जीवों के समान ही प्रिय है, परंतु भक्तिमान्‌ अत्यंत नीच भी प्राणी मुझे प्राणों के समान प्रिय है, यह मेरी घोषणा है॥5॥

English Translation:
If even Lord Brahma had no devotion toward me, he would be as dear to me as any other creature. But if there were a most wretched person with deep and unwavering devotion to me, that person would be as dear to me as life itself. This is my declaration…

सुचि सुसील सेवक सुमति प्रिय कहु काहि न लाग।
श्रुति पुरान कह नीति असि सावधान सुनु काग॥86॥

भावार्थ:
पवित्र, सुशील और सुंदर बुद्धि वाला सेवक, बता, किसको प्यारा नहीं लगता? वेद और पुराण ऐसी ही नीति कहते हैं। हे काक! सावधान होकर सुन॥86॥

English Translation:
Who does not appreciate a faithful, amiable, and wise servant? The Vedas and the Puranas have declared this sound principle. Listen to it with a focused mind, O’ Kak Bhushundi…

एक पिता के बिपुल कुमारा। होहिं पृथक गुन सील अचारा॥
कोउ पंडित कोउ तापस ग्याता। कोउ धनवंत सूर कोउ दाता॥1॥

भावार्थ:
एक पिता के बहुत से पुत्र पृथक-पृथक्‌ गुण, स्वभाव और आचरण वाले होते हैं। कोई पंडित होता है, कोई तपस्वी, कोई ज्ञानी, कोई धनी, कोई शूरवीर, कोई दानी,॥1॥

English Translation:
A father has several sons, each possessing unique qualities, amiability, and temperament. One is learned, another ascetic, the third spiritually enlightened, the fourth wealthy, the fifth a brave warrior, the sixth charitable…

कोउ सर्बग्य धर्मरत कोई। सब पर पितहि प्रीति सम होई॥
कोउ पितु भगत बचन मन कर्मा। सपनेहुँ जान न दूसर धर्मा॥2॥

भावार्थ:
कोई सर्वज्ञ और कोई धर्मपरायण होता है। पिता का प्रेम इन सभी पर समान होता है, परंतु इनमें से यदि कोई मन, वचन और कर्म से पिता का ही भक्त होता है, स्वप्न में भी दूसरा धर्म नहीं जानता,॥2॥

English Translation:
…, the seventh wise in all matters, and the eighth follows the path of righteousness. The father loves them all equally. However, the ninth son is devoted to serving his father wholeheartedly in word, thought, and deed and never even dreams of any other duty…

सो सुत प्रिय पितु प्रान समाना। जद्यपि सो सब भाँति अयाना॥
एहि बिधि जीव चराचर जेते। त्रिजग देव नर असुर समेते॥3॥

भावार्थ:
वह पुत्र पिता को प्राणों के समान प्रिय होता है, यद्यपि (चाहे) वह सब प्रकार से अज्ञान (मूर्ख) ही हो। इस प्रकार तिर्यक्‌ (पशु-पक्षी), देव, मनुष्य और असुरों समेत जितने भी चेतन और जड़ जीव हैं,॥3॥

English Translation:
This son, though lacking in intellect, is as dear to the father as his own life. Similarly, all beings—whether animate or inanimate, including birds, insects, worms, animals, humans, Demigods, demons,…

अखिल बिस्व यह मोर उपाया। सब पर मोहि बराबरि दाया॥
तिन्ह महँ जो परिहरि मद माया। भजै मोहि मन बच अरु काया॥4॥

भावार्थ:
(उनसे भरा हुआ) यह संपूर्ण विश्व मेरा ही पैदा किया हुआ है। अतः सब पर मेरी बराबर दया है, परंतु इनमें से जो मद और माया छोड़कर मन, वचन और शरीर से मुझको भजता है,॥4॥

English Translation:
…and the entire universe – have been created by me. I am equally compassionate toward all. Yet, those who renounce false pride and worldly attachments and worship me with sincerity in thought, word, and deed,…

पुरुष नपुंसक नारि वा जीव चराचर कोइ।
सर्ब भाव भज कपट तजि मोहि परम प्रिय सोइ॥87क॥

भावार्थ:
वह पुरुष हो, नपुंसक हो, स्त्री हो अथवा चर-अचर कोई भी जीव हो, कपट छोड़कर जो भी सर्वभाव से मुझे भजता है, वही मुझे परम प्रिय है॥87क॥

English Translation:
…whether they are man, woman, transgender (or any other gender by present day definitions), or any being in the animate or inanimate world, are supremely dear to me who adore me with pure guileless devotion.

सत्य कहउँ खग तोहि सुचि सेवक मम प्रानप्रिय।
अस बिचारि भजु मोहि परिहरि आस भरोस सब॥87ख॥

भावार्थ:
हे पक्षी! मैं तुझसे सत्य कहता हूँ, पवित्र (अनन्य एवं निष्काम) सेवक मुझे प्राणों के समान प्यारा है। ऐसा विचारकर सब आशा-भरोसा छोड़कर मुझी को भज॥87ख॥

English Translation:
O’ Kak Bhushundi, I tell you in all sincerity, a servant who is free from deceit is as dear to me as life itself. Knowing this, worship me, casting aside all other hopes and beliefs…

कबहूँ काल न ब्यापिहि तोही। सुमिरेसु भजेसु निरंतर मोही॥
प्रभु बचनामृत सुनि न अघाऊँ। तनु पुलकित मन अति हरषाऊँ॥1॥

भावार्थ:
तुझे काल कभी नहीं व्यापेगा। निरंतर मेरा स्मरण और भजन करते रहना। प्रभु के वचनामृत सुनकर मैं तृप्त नहीं होता था। मेरा शरीर पुलकित था और मन में मैं अत्यंत ही हर्षित हो रहा था॥1॥

English Translation:
Age will never affect you. Always meditate upon me and offer your worship.” Hearing the Lord’s nectar-like words, I felt overwhelming delight in my heart; my feathers stood on end, and my heart was filled with boundless joy…

सो सुख जानइ मन अरु काना। नहिं रसना पहिं जाइ बखाना॥
प्रभु सोभा सुख जानहिं नयना। कहि किम सकहिं तिन्हहि नहिं बयना॥2॥

भावार्थ:
वह सुख मन और कान ही जानते हैं। जीभ से उसका बखान नहीं किया जा सकता। प्रभु की शोभा का वह सुख नेत्र ही जानते हैं। पर वे कह कैसे सकते हैं। उनके वाणी तो है नहीं॥2॥

English Translation:
The joy I felt in that moment was known only to my heart and ears; my tongue lacked the power to express it. Only my eyes could savour the bliss of beholding Lord Ram’s beauty, but how could they describe it, being without speech?…

बहु बिधि मोहि प्रबोधि सुख देई। लगे करन सिसु कौतुक तेई॥
सजल नयन कछु मुख करि रूखा। चितई मातु लागी अति भूखा॥3॥

भावार्थ:
मुझे बहुत प्रकार से भलीभाँति समझकर और सुख देकर प्रभु फिर वही बालकों के खेल करने लगे। नेत्रों में जल भरकर और मुख को कुछ रूखा (सा) बनाकर उन्होंने माता की ओर देखा- (और मुखाकृति तथा चितवन से माता को समझा दिया कि) बहुत भूख लगी है॥3॥

English Translation:
After reassuring me in countless ways and filling me with joy, He once again began performing His childlike acts as before. With His eyes brimming with tears and a slightly gloomy expression, baby Ram looked at His mother and conveyed that He was very hungry…

देखि मातु आतुर उठि धाई। कहि मृदु बचन लिए उर लाई॥
गोद राखि कराव पय पाना। रघुपति चरित ललित कर गाना॥4॥

भावार्थ:
यह देखकर माता तुरंत उठ दौड़ीं और कोमल वचन कहकर उन्होंने श्री रामजी को छाती से लगा लिया। वे गोद में लेकर उन्हें दूध पिलाने लगीं और श्री रघुनाथजी (उन्हीं) की ललित लीलाएँ गाने लगीं॥4॥

English Translation:
Seeing Him, Mother Kaushalya rose up quickly and ran to Him. Speaking gentle words, she embraced Him, then took Him onto her lap, feeding Him from her bosom while singing His (Shri Raghupati’s) glorious exploits…

जेहि सुख लाग पुरारि असुभ बेष कृत सिव सुखद।
अवधपुरी नर नारि तेहि सुख महुँ संतत मगन॥88क॥

भावार्थ:
जिस सुख के लिए (सबको) सुख देने वाले कल्याण रूप त्रिपुरारि शिवजी ने अशुभ वेष धारण किया, उस सुख में अवधपुरी के नर-नारी निरंतर निमग्न रहते हैं॥88क॥

English Translation:
The people of Ayodhya, both men and women, remained constantly immersed in that same divine bliss (beholding the countless exploits of Lord Ram), for which the benevolent Lord Tripurari (Shiv ji) once assumed an inauspicious form.

सोई सुख लवलेस जिन्ह बारक सपनेहुँ लहेउ।
ते नहिं गनहिं खगेस ब्रह्मसुखहि सज्जन सुमति॥88ख॥

भावार्थ:
उस सुख का लवलेशमात्र जिन्होंने एक बार स्वप्न में भी प्राप्त कर लिया, हे पक्षीराज! वे सुंदर बुद्धि वाले सज्जन पुरुष उसके सामने ब्रह्मसुख को भी कुछ नहीं गिनते॥88ख॥

English Translation:
Those wise and virtuous souls who have tasted the bliss of Lord Ram’s childlike antics, even once and only in a dream, consider the joy of merging into the Supreme Lord (Liberation or Moksh) insignificant, not to mention any other earthly or heavenly pleasure…

मैं पुनि अवध रहेउँ कछु काला। देखेउँ बालबिनोद रसाला॥
राम प्रसाद भगति बर पायउँ। प्रभु पद बंदि निजाश्रम आयउँ॥1॥

भावार्थ:
मैं और कुछ समय तक अवधपुरी में रहा और मैंने श्री रामजी की रसीली बाल लीलाएँ देखीं। श्री रामजी की कृपा से मैंने भक्ति का वरदान पाया। तदनन्तर प्रभु के चरणों की वंदना करके मैं अपने आश्रम पर लौट आया॥1॥

English Translation:
Thereafter, I stayed in Ayodhya for some time, savouring the nectar of Lord Ram’s playful childhood acts. By Lord Ram’s grace, I received the blessing of devotion to Him, and after bowing my head at His feet, I returned to my hermitage…

तब ते मोहि न ब्यापी माया। जब ते रघुनायक अपनाया॥
यह सब गुप्त चरित मैं गावा। हरि मायाँ जिमि मोहि नचावा॥2॥

भावार्थ:
इस प्रकार जब से श्री रघुनाथजी ने मुझको अपनाया, तब से मुझे माया कभी नहीं व्यापी। श्री हरि की माया ने मुझे जैसे नचाया, वह सब गुप्त चरित्र मैंने कहा॥2॥

English Translation:
Since the day Lord Raghunayak accepted me as His own, I have never fallen prey to delusion. I have recited to you this hidden tale of how Lord Hari’s Maya made me dance to its tunes…

निज अनुभव अब कहउँ खगेसा। बिनु हरि भजन न जाहिं कलेसा॥
राम कृपा बिनु सुनु खगराई। जानि न जाइ राम प्रभुताई॥3॥

भावार्थ:
हे पक्षीराज गरुड़! अब मैं आपसे अपना निजी अनुभव कहता हूँ। (वह यह है कि) भगवान्‌ के भजन बिना क्लेश दूर नहीं होते। हे पक्षीराज! सुनिए, श्री रामजी की कृपा बिना श्री रामजी की प्रभुता नहीं जानी जाती,॥3॥

English Translation:
I will now share my experience with you, O’ King of Birds. Without worshipping Lord Hari, one’s troubles do not vanish. And, O’ King of Birds, without Lord Ram’s mercy, one cannot understand His greatness…

जानें बिनु न होइ परतीती। बिनु परतीति होइ नहिं प्रीती॥
प्रीति बिना नहिं भगति दिढ़ाई। जिमि खगपति जल कै चिकनाई॥4॥

भावार्थ:
प्रभुता जाने बिना उन पर विश्वास नहीं जमता, विश्वास के बिना प्रीति नहीं होती और प्रीति बिना भक्ति वैसे ही दृढ़ नहीं होती जैसे हे पक्षीराज! जल की चिकनाई ठहरती नहीं॥4॥

English Translation:
Without knowledge of the Supreme Lord, faith cannot arise, and without faith, love cannot flourish. Just as the natural greasiness of water keeps it flowing, so too is love essential for steadfast devotion, O’ King of Birds…

सोरठा :

बिनु गुर होइ कि ग्यान ग्यान कि होइ बिराग बिनु।
गावहिं बेद पुरान सुख कि लहिअ हरि भगति बिनु॥89क॥

भावार्थ:
गुरु के बिना कहीं ज्ञान हो सकता है? अथवा वैराग्य के बिना कहीं ज्ञान हो सकता है? इसी तरह वेद और पुराण कहते हैं कि श्री हरि की भक्ति के बिना क्या सुख मिल सकता है?॥89क॥

English Translation:
Is it possible to attain spiritual knowledge without a Guru? Can one acquire wisdom without dispassion? The Vedas and Puranas declare that without devotion to Lord Hari, one cannot experience true happiness…

कोउ बिश्राम कि पाव तात सहज संतोष बिनु।
चलै कि जल बिनु नाव कोटि जतन पचि पचि मरिअ॥89ख॥

भावार्थ:
हे तात! स्वाभाविक संतोष के बिना क्या कोई शांति पा सकता है? (चाहे) करोड़ों उपाय करके पच-पच मारिए, (फिर भी) क्या कभी जल के बिना नाव चल सकती है?॥89ख॥

English Translation:
Can one find peace without natural contentment? Can a boat float without water, no matter how many times one rows or tries various methods?…

चौपाई :

बिनु संतोष न काम नसाहीं। काम अछत सुख सपनेहुँ नाहीं॥
राम भजन बिनु मिटहिं कि कामा। थल बिहीन तरु कबहुँ कि जामा॥1॥

भावार्थ:
संतोष के बिना कामना का नाश नहीं होता और कामनाओं के रहते स्वप्न में भी सुख नहीं हो सकता और श्री राम के भजन बिना कामनाएँ कहीं मिट सकती हैं? बिना धरती के भी कहीं पेड़ उग सकता है?॥1॥

English Translation:
Without contentment, desires do not fade. And as long as desires persist, one cannot even dream of happiness. Can desires be eliminated without worship of Lord Ram? Can a tree ever take root without soil?…

बिनु बिग्यान कि समता आवइ। कोउ अवकास कि नभ बिनु पावइ॥
श्रद्धा बिना धर्म नहिं होई। बिनु महि गंध कि पावइ कोई॥2॥

भावार्थ:
विज्ञान (तत्त्वज्ञान) के बिना क्या समभाव आ सकता है? आकाश के बिना क्या कोई अवकाश (पोल) पा सकता है? श्रद्धा के बिना धर्म (का आचरण) नहीं होता। क्या पृथ्वी तत्त्व के बिना कोई गंध पा सकता है?॥2॥

English Translation:
Can even-mindedness be attained without spiritual enlightenment? Can one perceive outer space without the vast expanse of the sky? Can one perform righteous acts without reverence? Can fragrance arise without the earth?…

बिनु तप तेज कि कर बिस्तारा। जल बिनु रस कि होइ संसारा॥
सील कि मिल बिनु बुध सेवकाई। जिमि बिनु तेज न रूप गोसाँई॥3॥

भावार्थ:
तप के बिना क्या तेज फैल सकता है? जल-तत्त्व के बिना संसार में क्या रस हो सकता है? पंडितजनों की सेवा बिना क्या शील (सदाचार) प्राप्त हो सकता है? हे गोसाईं! जैसे बिना तेज (अग्नि-तत्त्व) के रूप नहीं मिलता॥3॥

English Translation:
Can one’s glory spread without austere penance? Can there be any taste in this world without water? Can one develop modesty without serving a wise man? Just as beauty cannot arise without the essence of fire, O’ Master…

निज सुख बिनु मन होइ कि थीरा। परस कि होइ बिहीन समीरा॥
कवनिउ सिद्धि कि बिनु बिस्वासा। बिनु हरि भजन न भव भय नासा॥4॥

भावार्थ:
নিজ-सুখ (आत্মानंद) के बिना क्या मन स्थिर हो सकता है? वायु-तत्त्व के बिना क्या स्पर्श हो सकता है? क्या विश्वास के बिना कोई भी सिद्धि हो सकती है? इसी प्रकार श्री हरि के भजन बिना जन्म-मृत्यु के भय का नाश नहीं होता॥4॥

English Translation:
Can a person be calm at heart without inner peace? Can there be any sensation of touch without air? Can there be any success without faith? In the same way, without devotion to Lord Hari, one cannot break free from the cycle of mundane existence…

दोहा :

बिनु बिस्वास भगति नहिं तेहि बिनु द्रवहिं न रामु।
राम कृपा बिनु सपनेहुँ जीव न लह बिश्रामु॥90क॥

भावार्थ:
बिना विश्वास के भक्ति नहीं होती, भक्ति के बिना श्री रामजी पिघलते (ढरते) नहीं और श्री रामजी की कृपा के बिना जीव स्वप्न में भी शांति नहीं पाता॥90क॥

English Translation:
Without faith, there is no devotion, and without devotion, Lord Ram’s heart will never melt. Without His mercy, one cannot find peace, even in a dream…

सोरठा :

अस बिचारि मतिधीर तजि कुतर्क संसय सकल।
भजहु राम रघुबीर करुनाकर सुंदर सुखद॥90ख॥

भावार्थ:
हे धीरबुद्धि! ऐसा विचारकर संपूर्ण कुतर्कों और संदेहों को छोड़कर करुणा की खान सुंदर और सुख देने वाले श्री रघुवीर का भजन कीजिए॥90ख॥

Realizing this in your heart, O’ calm-minded one, renounce all misleading arguments and worship Shri Ram, for Shri Raghuveer is an abode of mercy, full of charm, and a delight to all…

चौपाई

निज मति सरिस नाथ मैं गाई। प्रभु प्रताप महिमा खगराई॥
कहेउँ न कछु करि जुगुति बिसेषी। यह सब मैं निज नयनन्हि देखी॥1॥

भावार्थ:
हे पक्षीराज! हे नाथ! मैंने अपनी बुद्धि के अनुसार प्रभु के प्रताप और महिमा का गान किया। मैंने इसमें कोई बात युक्ति से बढ़ाकर नहीं कही है। यह सब अपनी आँखों देखी कही है॥1॥

English Translation:
O’ Master, I have sung to you the greatness of the Lord’s glory, O King of Birds. I have added nothing special of my own; all this I have witnessed with my own eyes…

महिमा नाम रूप गुन गाथा। सकल अमित अनंत रघुनाथा॥
निज निज मति मुनि हरि गुन गावहिं। निगम सेष सिव पार न पावहिं॥2॥

भावार्थ:
श्री रघुनाथजी की महिमा, नाम, रूप और गुणों की कथा सभी अपार एवं अनंत हैं तथा श्री रघुनाथजी स्वयं भी अनंत हैं। मुनिगण अपनी-अपनी बुद्धि के अनुसार श्री हरि के गुण गाते हैं। वेद, शेष और शिवजी भी उनका पार नहीं पाते॥2॥

English Translation:
Lord Raghunath’s glory, name, virtues, and tales are all boundless and endless, for the Lord Himself is infinite. The sages have sung of Lord Ram’s virtues according to their understanding. Even the Vedas, Shesha ji, the Lord of serpent, and Lord Shiv cannot reach the end of describing His virtues. (and Lord Shiv cannot fully capture the extent of His virtues.)…

तुम्हहि आदि खग मसक प्रजंता। नभ उड़ाहिं नहिं पावहिं अंता॥
तिमि रघुपति महिमा अवगाहा। तात कबहुँ कोउ पाव कि थाहा॥3॥

भावार्थ:
आप से लेकर मच्छरपर्यन्त सभी छोटे-बड़े जीव आकाश में उड़ते हैं, किंतु आकाश का अंत कोई नहीं पाता। इसी प्रकार हे तात! श्री रघुनाजी की महिमा भी अथाह है। क्या कभी कोई उसकी थाह पा सकता है?॥3॥

English Translation:
You and all other birds, down to the smallest mosquitoes, may soar across the sky, but none can reach its end. In the same way, Lord Raghupati’s glory is unfathomable. O’ dear one, no one has ever been able to measure its vastness…

रामु काम सत कोटि सुभग तन। दुर्गा कोटि अमित अरि मर्दन॥
सक्र कोटि सत सरिस बिलासा। नभ सत कोटि अमित अवकासा॥4॥

भावार्थ:
श्री रामजी का अरबों कामदेवों के समान सुंदर शरीर है। वे अनंत कोटि दुर्गाओं के समान शत्रुनाशक हैं। अरबों इंद्रों के समान उनका विलास (ऐश्वर्य) है। अरबों आकाशों के समान उनमें अनंत अवकाश (स्थान) है॥4॥

English Translation:
Lord Ram’s form holds the charm of millions of Cupids and the power to crush enemies like countless millions of Durgas. His grandeur equals that of millions of demigod Indras, and His vastness is as boundless as myriad universes…

दोहा :

मरुत कोटि सत बिपुल बल रबि सत कोटि प्रकास।
ससि सत कोटि सुसीतल समन सकल भव त्रास॥91क॥

भावार्थ:
अरबों पवन के समान उनमें महान्‌ बल है और अरबों सूर्यों के समान प्रकाश है। अरबों चंद्रमाओं के समान वे शीतल और संसार के समस्त भयों का नाश करने वाले हैं॥91क॥

English Translation:
He possesses the strength of countless winds and the radiance of billions of Suns. He brings the calm of billions of Moons and dispels the fear of endless cycles of birth and death…

काल कोटि सत सरिस अति दुस्तर दुर्ग दुरंत।
धूमकेतु सत कोटि सम दुराधरष भगवंत॥91ख॥

भावार्थ:
अरबों कालों के समान वे अत्यंत दुस्तर, दुर्गम और दुरंत हैं। वे भगवान्‌ अरबों धूमकेतुओं (पुच्छल तारों) के समान अत्यंत प्रबल हैं॥91ख॥

English Translation:
Lord Ram is as formidable, unfathomable, and profoundly incomprehensible as billions of Gods of Death. The Lord is mighty and as unconquerable as billions of blazing comets…

प्रभु अगाध सत कोटि पताला। समन कोटि सत सरिस कराला॥
तीरथ अमित कोटि सम पावन। नाम अखिल अघ पूग नसावन॥1॥

भावार्थ:
अरबों पातालों के समान प्रभु अथाह हैं। अरबों यमराजों के समान भयानक हैं। अनंतकोटि तीर्थों के समान वे पवित्र करने वाले हैं। उनका नाम संपूर्ण पापसमूह का नाश करने वाला है।

English Translation:
The Lord is as fathomless as billions of Pataals (the deepest of the seven realms beneath the Earth). He is fearful like billions of Gods of Death. He is as sacred as billions of holy pilgrimages, and His name destroys the entire multitude of sins.

हिमगिरि कोटि अचल रघुबीरा। सिंधु कोटि सत सम गंभीरा॥
कामधेनु सत कोटि समाना। सकल काम दायक भगवाना॥2॥

भावार्थ:
श्री रघुवीर करो़ड़ों हिमालयों के समान अचल (स्थिर) हैं और अरबों समुद्रों के समान गहरे हैं। भगवान्‌ अरबों कामधेनुओं के समान सब कामनाओं के देने वाले हैं।

English Translation:
Lord Raghuveer is as immovable as millions of Himalayas and as profoundly deep as billions of seas. Like billions of Kaamdhenu celestial cows, He fulfills all desires.

सारद कोटि अमित चतुराई। बिधि सत कोटि सृष्टि निपुनाई॥
बिष्नु कोटि सम पालन कर्ता। रुद्र कोटि सत सम संहर्ता॥3॥

भावार्थ:
उनमें अनंतकोटि सरस्वतियों के समान चतुरता है। अरबों ब्रह्माओं के समान सृष्टि रचना की निपुणता है। वे करोड़ों विष्णुओं के समान पालन करने वाले और अरबों रुद्रों के समान संहार करने वाले हैं।

English Translation:
The Lord is as intelligent as countless millions of Goddess Saraswatis and as skilled in creation as billions of Lord Brahmas. He nurtures like billions of Lord Vishnus and annihilates it like billions of Lord Shivs.

धनद कोटि सत सम धनवाना। माया कोटि प्रपंच निधाना॥
भार धरन सत कोटि अहीसा। निरवधि निरुपम प्रभु जगदीसा॥4॥

भावार्थ:
वे अरबों कुबेरों के समान धनवान्‌ और करोड़ों मायाओं के समान सृष्टि के खजाने हैं। बोझ उठाने में वे अरबों शेषों के समान हैं। जगदीश्वर प्रभु श्री रामजी सीमारहित और उपमारहित हैं।

English Translation:
He is as wealthy as millions of Kubers, the Demigod of wealth, and as capable of creating material Universes as millions of Mayas. He bears the weight of countless Universes like billions of Lord Shehsas. The Lord is limitless, incomparable, and the Master of the entire Universe.

निरुपम न उपमा आन राम समान रामु निगम कहै।
जिमि कोटि सत खद्योत सम रबि कहत अति लघुता लहै॥
एहि भाँति निज निज मति बिलास मुनीस हरिहि बखानहीं।
प्रभु भाव गाहक अति कृपाल सप्रेम सुनि सुख मानहीं॥

भावार्थ:
श्री रामजी उपमारहित हैं, उनकी कोई दूसरी उपमा है ही नहीं। श्री राम के समान श्री राम ही हैं, ऐसा वेद कहते हैं। जैसे अरबों जुगनुओं के समान कहने से सूर्य की प्रशंसा नहीं बल्कि तुच्छता ही होती है। इसी प्रकार अपनी-अपनी बुद्धि के अनुसार मुनीश्वर श्री हरि का वर्णन करते हैं, किंतु प्रभु भक्तों के प्रेमभाव को ही ग्रहण करते हैं।

English Translation:
The Vedas proclaim that Lord Ram is beyond comparison, unparalleled, and without equal. The only one like Lord Ram is Lord Ram Himself. Just as comparing millions of fireflies to the mighty Sun would be inappropriate, so too is any attempt to fully capture His greatness. Even the wisest sages strive to describe the glory of Lord Hari, but Lord Ram, in His infinite compassion, lovingly accepts the heartfelt devotion of His devotees.

रामु अमित गुन सागर थाह कि पावइ कोइ।
संतन्ह सन जस किछु सुनेउँ तुम्हहि सुनायउँ सोइ॥92क॥

भावार्थ:
श्री रामजी अपार गुणों के समुद्र हैं, क्या उनकी कोई थाह पा सकता है? संतों से मैंने जैसा कुछ सुना था, वही आपको सुनाया।

English Translation:
Lord Ram is an ocean of countless virtues—who can fathom its depth? Whatever I have heard from the sages about Shri Ram, I have shared with you.

भाव बस्य भगवान सुख निधान करुना भवन।
तजि ममता मद मान भजिअ सदा सीता रवन॥92ख॥

भावार्थ:
सुख के भंडार, करुणाधाम भगवान्‌ प्रेम के वश होते हैं। इसलिए ममता, मद और मान को छोड़कर सदा श्री सीतानाथजी का भजन करना चाहिए।

English Translation:
The Lord who is an ocean of bliss and an abode of compassion, is won over by sincere devotion. One should renounce all worldly attachments, false pride, and ego, and wholeheartedly worship the Lord of Sita.

सुनि भुसुंडि के बचन सुहाए। हरषित खगपति पंख फुलाए॥
नयन नीर मन अति हरषाना। श्रीरघुपति प्रताप उर आना॥1॥

भावार्थ:
भुशुण्डिजी के सुंदर वचन सुनकर पक्षीराज ने हर्षित होकर अपने पंख फुला लिए। उनके नेत्रों में (प्रेमानंद के आँसुओं का) जल आ गया और मन अत्यंत हर्षित हो गया। उन्होंने श्री रघुनाथजी का प्रताप हृदय में धारण किया॥1॥

English Translation:
Hearing the charming words of Kak Bhushundi, the King of Birds fluffed up his wings, tears of love welling up in his eyes. Filled with immense joy, he invoked the glory of Lord Ram in his heart.

पाछिल मोह समुझि पछिताना। ब्रह्म अनादि मनुज करि माना॥
पुनि पुनि काग चरन सिरु नावा। जानि राम सम प्रेम बढ़ावा॥2॥

भावार्थ:
वे अपने पिछले मोह को समझकर (याद करके) पछताने लगे कि मैंने अनादि ब्रह्म को मनुष्य करके माना। गरुड़जी ने बार-बार काकभुशुण्डिजी के चरणों पर सिर नवाया और उन्हें श्री रामजी के ही समान जानकर प्रेम बढ़ाया॥2॥

English Translation:
Recalling his past infatuation, he felt deep remorse for once considering the Supreme Lord an ordinary human being. He repeatedly bowed at the feet of Kak Bhushundi, cherishing him even more, recognizing him as being as dear as Shri Ram Himself.

गुर बिनु भव निध तरइ न कोई। जौं बिरंचि संकर सम होई॥
संसय सर्प ग्रसेउ मोहि ताता। दुखद लहरि कुतर्क बहु ब्राता॥3॥

भावार्थ:
गुरु के बिना कोई भवसागर नहीं तर सकता, चाहे वह ब्रह्माजी और शंकरजी के समान ही क्यों न हो। (गरुड़जी ने कहा-) हे तात! मुझे संदेह रूपी सर्प ने डस लिया था और (साँप के डसने पर जैसे विष चढ़ने से लहरें आती हैं वैसे ही) बहुत सी कुतर्क रूपी दुःख देने वाली लहरें आ रही थीं॥3॥

English Translation:
Without a spiritual guru, no one can cross the ocean of mundane existence, not even one as exalted as Lord Brahma or Lord Shiv. Garud ji said, “O’ Lord, the serpent of doubt had devoured me, and countless waves of sorrow, in the form of fallacious arguments, were rising within me…

तव सरूप गारुड़ि रघुनायक। मोहि जिआयउ जन सुखदायक॥
तव प्रसाद मम मोह नसाना। राम रहस्य अनूपम जाना॥4॥

भावार्थ:
आपके स्वरूप रूपी गारुड़ी (साँप का विष उतारने वाले) के द्वारा भक्तों को सुख देने वाले श्री रघुनाथजी ने मुझे जिला लिया। आपकी कृपा से मेरा मोह नाश हो गया और मैंने श्री रामजी का अनुपम रहस्य जाना॥4॥

English Translation:
…”But Shri Ram, the delight of His devotees, has saved me by sending me to a remover of snake venom. By your grace, my infatuation has vanished, and I have come to understand the incomparable mystery of Lord Ram.”

ताहि प्रसंसि बिबिधि बिधि सीस नाइ कर जोरि।
बचन बिनीत सप्रेम मृदु बोलेउ गरुड़ बहोरि॥93क॥

भावार्थ:
उनकी (भुशुण्डिजी की) बहुत प्रकार से प्रशंसा करके, सिर नवाकर और हाथ जोड़कर फिर गरुड़जी प्रेमपूर्वक विनम्र और कोमल वचन बोले-॥93क॥

English Translation:
…After extolling Kak Bhushundi ji in numerous ways, Garud ji bowed his head, folded his wings in reverence, and spoke with utmost humility in sweet and gentle words:..

प्रभु अपने अबिबेक ते बूझउँ स्वामी तोहि।
कृपासिंधु सादर कहहु जानि दास निज मोहि॥93ख॥

भावार्थ:
हे प्रभो! हे स्वामी! मैं अपने अविवेक के कारण आपसे पूछता हूँ। हे कृपा के समुद्र! मुझे अपना ‘निज दास’ जानकर आदरपूर्वक (विचारपूर्वक) मेरे प्रश्न का उत्तर कहिए॥93ख॥

English Translation:
…”Lord, I ask this out of my ignorance, O’ Master, O’ Ocean of mercy, please enlighten me, considering me to be your humble servant…

तुम्ह सर्बग्य तग्य तम पारा। सुमति सुसील सरल आचारा॥
ग्यान बिरति बिग्यान निवासा। रघुनायक के तुम्ह प्रिय दासा॥1॥

भावार्थ:
आप सब कुछ जानने वाले हैं, तत्त्व के ज्ञाता हैं, अंधकार (माया) से परे, उत्तम बुद्धि से युक्त, सुशील, सरल आचरण वाले, ज्ञान, वैराग्य और विज्ञान के धाम और श्री रघुनाथजी के प्रिय दास हैं॥1॥

English Translation:
…You are all-knowing, detached, and beyond the influence of ignorance. Wise, amiable, and simple in temperament, you are a reservoir of wisdom, detachment, and spiritual knowledge. Above all, you are the cherished servant of Lord Raghunath…

कारन कवन देह यह पाई। तात सकल मोहि कहहु बुझाई॥
राम चरित सुर सुंदर स्वामी। पायहु कहाँ कहहु नभगामी॥2॥

भावार्थ:
आपने यह काक शरीर किस कारण से पाया? हे तात! सब समझाकर मुझसे कहिए। हे स्वामी! हे आकाशगामी! यह सुंदर रामचरित मानस आपने कहाँ पाया, सो कहिए॥2॥

English Translation:
…For what reason did you assume the form of a crow? Dear Master, please explain this to me in detail. Also, tell me where you heard about the divine and beautiful exploits of Lord Ram. Share everything with me, O’ One who soars through the skies…

नाथ सुना मैं अस सिव पाहीं। महा प्रलयहुँ नास तव नाहीं॥
मुधा बचन नहिं ईस्वर कहई। सोउ मोरें मन संसय अहई॥3॥

भावार्थ:
हे नाथ! मैंने शिवजी से ऐसा सुना है कि महाप्रलय में भी आपका नाश नहीं होता और ईश्वर (शिवजी) कभी मिथ्या वचन कहते नहीं। वह भी मेरे मन में संदेह है॥3॥

English Translation:
…O’ Master, I have heard from Lord Shiv himself that you do not perish even during the great universal dissolution. Since Lord Shiv’s words can never be untrue, my heart is, therefore, filled with apprehension…

अग जग जीव नाग नर देवा। नाथ सकल जगु काल कलेवा॥
अंड कटाह अमित लयकारी। कालु सदा दुरतिक्रम भारी॥4॥

भावार्थ:
हे नाथ! नाग, मनुष्य, देवता आदि चर-अचर जीव तथा यह समस्त जगत काल का ही भोग्य (आहार) है। असंख्य ब्रह्मांडों को नष्ट करने वाला काल सदा ही बड़ा अनिवार्य और दुर्जेय है।

English Translation:
O Lord! Serpents, men, gods, and all created beings — the entire universe — is merely food for Time. Countless cosmic eggs dissolve in its jaws; eternal Time is fearsome and impossible to overcome.

तुम्हहि न ब्यापत काल अति कराल कारन कवन।
मोहि सो कहहु कृपाल ग्यान प्रभाव कि जोग बल॥94क॥

भावार्थ:
हे कृपालु! वह अत्यंत भयंकर काल आपको नहीं व्यापता, इसका क्या कारण है? कृपा करके बताइए, यह ज्ञान की शक्ति है या योगबल का प्रभाव?

English Translation:
O Merciful One! Even that dreadful Death fails to touch you—what is the cause? Please tell me—is it due to the might of divine wisdom or the power of yoga?

प्रभु तव आश्रम आएँ मोर मोह भ्रम भाग।
कारन कवन सो नाथ सब कहहु सहित अनुराग॥94ख॥

भावार्थ:
हे प्रभो! आपके आश्रम में आते ही मेरा मोह और भ्रम दूर हो गया। इसका क्या रहस्य है? हे नाथ! कृपापूर्वक प्रेम सहित बताइए।

English Translation:
O Lord! The moment I entered your hermitage, my delusion and ignorance vanished. What is the secret behind this? O Master, kindly reveal it with loving grace.

गरुड़ गिरा सुनि हरषेउ कागा। बोलेउ उमा परम अनुरागा॥
धन्य धन्य तव मति उरगारी। प्रस्न तुम्हारि मोहि अति प्यारी॥1॥

भावार्थ:
गरुड़जी की वाणी सुनकर काकभुशुण्डिजी अत्यंत हर्षित हुए और प्रेमपूर्वक बोले – हे उमा! हे सर्पों के शत्रु गरुड़जी! आपकी बुद्धि धन्य है, और आपके प्रश्न मुझे बहुत प्रिय लगे।

English Translation:
Hearing Garud's humble plea, Kak Bhushundi was overjoyed and said with deep affection, “O Uma! O enemy of serpents, Garud! Blessed is your intellect, and your questions are dear to my heart.”

सुनि तव प्रश्न सप्रेम सुहाई। बहुत जनम कै सुधि मोहि आई॥
सब निज कथा कहउँ मैं गाई। तात सुनहु सादर मन लाई॥2॥

भावार्थ:
आपके प्रेमपूर्वक किए गए सुंदर प्रश्न सुनकर मुझे अपने कई जन्मों की स्मृति हो आई। अब मैं अपनी समस्त कथा विस्तार से कहता हूँ। हे तात! ध्यानपूर्वक आदर सहित सुनिए।

English Translation:
Your affectionate and beautiful questions have awakened memories of many past lives. I shall now narrate my full story. Dear one, listen with reverence and focus.

जप तप मख सम दम ब्रत दाना। बिरति बिबेक जोग बिग्याना॥
सब कर फल रघुपति पद प्रेमा। तेहि बिनु कोउ न पावइ छेमा॥3॥

भावार्थ:
जप, तप, यज्ञ, शम, दम, व्रत, दान, वैराग्य, विवेक, योग और विज्ञान – इन सबका फल है श्री रघुनाथजी के चरणों में प्रेम। इसके बिना कोई भी कल्याण नहीं पा सकता।

English Translation:
Chanting, penance, sacrifice, restraint, vows, charity, detachment, wisdom, yoga, and knowledge—all bear fruit only when they lead to love for Lord Raghunath’s feet. Without that love, none can find salvation.

एहिं तन राम भगति मैं पाई। ताते मोहि ममता अधिकाई॥
जेहि तें कछु निज स्वारथ होई। तेहि पर ममता कर सब कोई॥4॥

भावार्थ:
इसी शरीर से मैंने श्री रामजी की भक्ति प्राप्त की है। इसी कारण इस शरीर पर मेरी ममता अधिक है। जिससे कोई स्वार्थ सिद्ध होता है, उसी से सबको प्रेम होता है।

English Translation:
In this very body, I attained devotion to Lord Ram; thus, I hold it especially dear. All beings grow attached to that from which their highest benefit arises.

पन्नगारि असि नीति श्रुति संमत सज्जन कहहिं।
अति नीचहु सन प्रीति करिअ जानि निज परम हित॥95क॥

भावार्थ:
हे गरुड़जी! श्रुति और सज्जन दोनों कहते हैं कि यदि कोई अत्यंत नीच भी हमारे परम हित का कारण हो, तो उससे भी प्रेम करना चाहिए।

English Translation:
O Garud! The Vedas and the virtuous declare: if even the lowliest being serves one’s supreme good, love should be shown to them without hesitation.

पाट कीट तें होइ तेहि तें पाटंबर रुचिर।
कृमि पालइ सबु कोइ परम अपावन प्रान सम॥95ख॥

भावार्थ:
रेशमी कीड़ा अत्यंत अपवित्र होता है, परंतु उससे सुंदर रेशमी वस्त्र बनते हैं। इसलिए सब लोग उस कीड़े को भी प्राणों के समान पालते हैं।

English Translation:
Though the silkworm is considered most impure, it gives birth to exquisite silk. Hence, people nurture it with as much care as they would their very lives.

स्वारथ साँच जीव कहुँ एहा। मन क्रम बचन राम पद नेहा॥
सोइ पावन सोइ सुभग सरीरा। जो तनु पाइ भजिअ रघुबीरा॥1॥

भावार्थ:
जीव का सच्चा स्वार्थ यही है कि वह मन, वचन और कर्म से श्री रामजी के चरणों में प्रेम करे। वही शरीर पवित्र और सुंदर है, जिसमें श्री रघुवीर का भजन किया जाए।

English Translation:
A being’s truest self-interest lies in loving Lord Ram’s feet with thought, word, and deed. That body alone is pure and beautiful which finds use in devotion to Raghuveer.

राम बिमुख लहि बिधि सम देही। कबि कोबिद न प्रसंसहिं तेही॥
राम भगति एहिं तन उर जामी। ताते मोहि परम प्रिय स्वामी॥2॥

भावार्थ:
जो श्री रामजी से विमुख है, वह यदि ब्रह्माजी के समान शरीर भी पाए, तो भी कवि और पंडित उसकी प्रशंसा नहीं करते। इस शरीर से ही मेरे हृदय में रामभक्ति उत्पन्न हुई है, इसलिए हे स्वामी! यह मुझे अत्यंत प्रिय है।

English Translation:
Even if one has a body as glorious as Brahma’s, if they are opposed to Lord Ram, no wise poet will praise them. In this body, devotion to Ram bloomed in my heart—that is why, O Master, I cherish it dearly.

तजउँ न तन निज इच्छा मरना। तन बिनु बेद भजन नहिं बरना॥
प्रथम मोहँ मोहि बहुत बिगोवा। राम बिमुख सुख कबहुँ न सोवा॥3॥

भावार्थ:
मेरा मरण अपनी इच्छा पर है, परंतु फिर भी मैं यह शरीर नहीं छोड़ता, क्योंकि वेदों ने वर्णन किया है कि शरीर के बिना भजन नहीं होता। पहले मोह ने मेरी बड़ी दुर्दशा की। श्री रामजी के विमुख होकर मैं कभी सुख से नहीं सोया।

English Translation:
I can die at will, yet I choose not to abandon this body, for the Vedas declare that without a body, worship cannot be performed. In the beginning, delusion had brought me much suffering. As long as I turned away from Lord Ram, I never found peace or rest.

नाना जनम कर्म पुनि नाना। किए जोग जप तप मख दाना॥
कवन जोनि जनमेउँ जहँ नाहीं। मैं खगेस भ्रमि भ्रमि जग माहीं॥4॥

भावार्थ:
अनेकों जन्मों में मैंने अनेकों प्रकार के योग, जप, तप, यज्ञ और दान आदि कर्म किए। हे गरुड़जी! जगत् में ऐसी कौन योनि है, जिसमें मैंने (बार-बार) घूम-फिरकर जन्म न लिया हो?

English Translation:
Throughout countless births, I performed various acts—yoga, chants, austerities, sacrifices, and charities. O Garuda! There is hardly any species in this world in which I have not wandered and taken birth again and again.

देखेउँ करि सब करम गोसाईं। सुखी न भयउँ अबहिं की नाईं॥
सुधि मोहि नाथ जन्म बहु केरी। सिव प्रसाद मति मोहँ न घेरी॥5॥

भावार्थ:
हे गुसाईं! मैंने सब कर्म करके देख लिए, पर अब (इस जन्म) की तरह मैं कभी सुखी नहीं हुआ। हे नाथ! मुझे बहुत से जन्मों की याद है, (क्योंकि) श्री शिवजी की कृपा से मेरी बुद्धि को मोह ने नहीं घेरा।

English Translation:
O Lord! I have experienced all kinds of pursuits, yet I was never as content as I am in this life. O Master! I recall my many past births, for by the grace of Lord Shiva, delusion no longer clouds my intellect.

प्रथम जन्म के चरित अब कहउँ सुनहु बिहगेस।
सुनि प्रभु पद रति उपजइ जातें मिटहिं कलेस॥96क॥

भावार्थ:
हे पक्षीराज! सुनिए, अब मैं अपने प्रथम जन्म के चरित्र कहता हूँ, जिन्हें सुनकर प्रभु के चरणों में प्रीति उत्पन्न होती है, जिससे सब क्लेश मिट जाते हैं।

English Translation:
Listen now, O King of Birds, as I recount the story of my very first birth—by hearing which, love for the Lord’s feet awakens and all sufferings are dispelled.

पूरुब कल्प एक प्रभु जुग कलिजुग मल मूल।
नर अरु नारि अधर्म रत सकल निगम प्रतिकूल॥96ख॥

भावार्थ:
हे प्रभो! पूर्व के एक कल्प में पापों का मूल युग कलियुग था, जिसमें पुरुष और स्त्री सभी अधर्मपारायण और वेद के विरोधी थे।

English Translation:
O Lord! In a past cosmic age, there was a Kaliyug—a dark time, the very root of sin—where both men and women were deeply engaged in unrighteousness and opposed the teachings of the Vedas.

तेहिं कलिजुग कोसलपुर जाई। जन्मत भयउँ सूद्र तनु पाई॥
सिव सेवक मन क्रम अरु बानी। आन देव निंदक अभिमानी॥1॥

भावार्थ:
उस कलियुग में मैं अयोध्यापुरी में जाकर शूद्र का शरीर पाकर जन्मा। मैं मन, वचन और कर्म से शिवजी का सेवक और दूसरे देवताओं की निंदा करने वाला अभिमानी था।

English Translation:
In that dark age, I was born in the sacred city of Ayodhya in the body of a lowly man. I served Lord Shiva with heart, word, and deed, yet arrogantly criticized other deities.

धन मद मत्त परम बाचाला। उग्रबुद्धि उर दंभ बिसाला॥
जदपि रहेउँ रघुपति रजधानी। तदपि न कछु महिमा तब जानी॥2॥

भावार्थ:
मैं धन के मद से मतवाला, बहुत ही बकवादी और उग्रबुद्धि वाला था, मेरे हृदय में बड़ा भारी दंभ था। यद्यपि मैं श्री रघुनाथजी की राजधानी में रहता था, तथापि मैंने उस समय उसकी महिमा कुछ भी नहीं जानी।

English Translation:
Drunk with pride of wealth, I was extremely talkative and had a fierce intellect filled with ego. Though I lived in the capital of Lord Raghupati Himself, I failed to realize even a fraction of its divine glory.

अब जाना मैं अवध प्रभावा। निगमागम पुरान अस गावा॥
कवनेहुँ जन्म अवध बस जोई। राम परायन सो परि होई॥3॥

भावार्थ:
अब मैंने अवध का प्रभाव जाना। वेद, शास्त्र और पुराणों ने ऐसा गाया है कि किसी भी जन्म में जो कोई भी अयोध्या में बस जाता है, वह अवश्य ही श्री रामजी के परायण हो जाएगा।

English Translation:
Now I understand the profound glory of Ayodhya. The Vedas and Puranas sing that whoever is born in Ayodhya in any birth shall surely become devoted to Lord Ram.

अवध प्रभाव जान तब प्रानी। जब उर बसहिं रामु धनुपानी॥
सो कलिकाल कठिन उरगारी। पाप परायन सब नर नारी॥4॥

भावार्थ:
अवध का प्रभाव जीव तभी जानता है, जब हाथ में धनुष धारण करने वाले श्री रामजी उसके हृदय में निवास करते हैं। हे गरुड़जी! वह कलिकाल बड़ा कठिन था। उसमें सभी नर-नारी पापपरायण (पापों में लिप्त) थे।

English Translation:
A soul realizes the glory of Ayodhya only when Lord Ram, the wielder of the bow, resides in the heart. O Garuda! That age of Kali was extremely dreadful—men and women alike were engrossed in sin.
