भावार्थ:
वह शक्ति, शूल, तलवार, कृपाण आदि अस्त्र, शास्त्र एवं वज्र आदि बहुत से आयुध चलाने तथा फरसे, परिघ, पत्थर आदि डालने और बहुत से बाणों की वृष्टि करने लगा॥1॥
English Translation:
Meghnad unleashed a barrage of formidable weapons, including shaktis, swords, scimitars, thunderbolts, and numerous missiles. He also rained down axes, iron clubs, and rocks, and launched numerous weapons that were activated by spells.
भावार्थ:
आकाश में दसों दिशाओं में बाण छा गए, मानो मघा नक्षत्र के बादलों ने झड़ी लगा दी हो। ‘पकड़ो, पकड़ो, मारो’ ये शब्द सुनाई पड़ते हैं। पर जो मार रहा है, उसे कोई नहीं जान पाता॥2॥
English Translation:
All the ten directions were thickly covered with arrows, as if the constellation called Magh during the Monsoon season had poured down clouds in torrents. Shouts of “Seize, seize, kill, kill” could be heard, but no one could see who was striking.
भावार्थ:
पर्वत और वृक्षों को लेकर वानर आकाश में दौड़कर जाते हैं। पर उसे देख नहीं पाते, इससे दुःखी होकर लौट आते हैं। मेघनाद ने माया के बल से अटपटी घाटियों, रास्तों और पर्वतों-कन्दराओं को बाणों के पिंजरे बना दिए (बाणों से छा दिया)॥3॥
English Translation:
Holding mountains and trees, the monkeys sprang into the sky but could not see Meghnad and returned in utter disappointment. Using his illusory powers, Meghnad completely covered the rugged valleys, pathways, and mountain caves, making them resemble cages of arrows.
भावार्थ:
अब कहाँ जाएँ, यह सोचकर (रास्ता न पाकर) वानर व्याकुल हो गए। मानो पर्वत इंद्र की कैद में पड़े हों। मेघनाद ने मारुति हनुमान्, अंगद, नल और नील आदि सभी बलवानों को व्याकुल कर दिया॥4॥
English Translation:
The monkeys were bewildered and did not know where to turn. They felt helpless, as if the Mandrachal mountains were imprisoned by the Demigod Indra. The son of the Wind God, Hanuman ji, along with other mighty monkeys like Angad, Nal, and Neel, who were storehouses of strength and patience, were completely distressed.
भावार्थ:
फिर उसने लक्ष्मणजी, सुग्रीव और विभीषण को बाणों से मारकर उनके शरीर को छलनी कर दिया। फिर वह श्री रघुनाथजी से लड़ने लगा। वह जो बाण छोड़ता है, वे साँप होकर लगते हैं॥5॥
English Translation:
After that, Meghnad discharged his arrows at Lakshman Ji, Sugriv, and Vibhishan, badly piercing their bodies. And then he went and started fighting with Shri Raghupati. The arrows he discharged turned into serpents as they struck Shri Ram.
भावार्थ:
जो स्वतंत्र, अनन्त, एक (अखंड) और निर्विकार हैं, वे खर के शत्रु श्री रामजी (लीला से) नागपाश के वश में हो गए (उससे बँध गए) श्री रामचंद्रजी सदा स्वतंत्र, एक, (अद्वितीय) भगवान् हैं। वे नट की तरह अनेकों प्रकार के दिखावटी चरित्र करते हैं॥6॥
English Translation:
The slayer of the demon Khar, Shri Ram, who is all-capable, independent, infinite, the One without a second, and without defects, was overpowered by the serpents’ coils. Like a juggler, the Lord, who is always ever-free and the One and only, performs many trickful acts.
भावार्थ:
रण की शोभा के लिए प्रभु ने अपने को नागपाश में बाँध लिया, किन्तु उससे देवताओं को बड़ा भय हुआ॥7॥
English Translation:
In order to glorify the mighty battle itself, the Lord allowed Himself to be bound by a snare of serpents. However, the Demigods became extremely fearful at this sight.
भावार्थ:
(शिवजी कहते हैं-) हे गिरिजे! जिनका नाम जपकर मुनि भव (जन्म-मृत्यु) की फाँसी को काट डालते हैं, वे सर्वव्यापक और विश्व निवास (विश्व के आधार) प्रभु कहीं बंधन में आ सकते हैं?॥73॥
English Translation:
Lord Shiv tells Goddess Parvati, “O’ Girija, by chanting whose name the sages are able to cut the endless bonds of mundane existence, can that omnipresent Lord, in whom the entire cosmos resides, be entrapped in snares?…
भावार्थ:
हे भवानी! श्री रामजी की इस सगुण लीलाओं के विषय में बुद्धि और वाणी के बल से तर्क (निर्णय) नहीं किया जा सकता। ऐसा विचार कर जो तत्त्वज्ञानी और विरक्त पुरुष हैं, वे सब तर्क (शंका) छोड़कर श्री रामजी का भजन ही करते हैं॥।1॥
English Translation:
…O’ Bhawani, the exploits of the human avatar of Shri Ram cannot be logically interpreted by the power of reason or speech. Realizing this in their minds, those who know the ultimate supreme truth and those who are detached, worship only Shri Ram, after renouncing all theological speculations.”
भावार्थ:
मेघनाद ने सेना को व्याकुल कर दिया। फिर वह प्रकट हो गया और दुर्वचन कहने लगा। इस पर जाम्बवान् ने कहा- अरे दुष्ट! खड़ा रह। यह सुनकर उसे बड़ा क्रोध बढ़ा॥2॥
English Translation:
Meghnad bewildered the entire monkey army and finally revealed himself, hurling abuses. Jambvant said, “O’ Vile one, remain standing for a while.” Hearing these words, Meghnad’s anger intensified.
भावार्थ:
अरे मूर्ख! मैंने बूढ़ा जानकर तुझको छोड़ दिया था। अरे अधम! अब तू मुझे ही ललकारने लगा है? ऐसा कहकर उसने चमकता हुआ त्रिशूल चलाया। जाम्बवान् उसी त्रिशूल को हाथ से पकड़कर दौड़ा॥3॥
English Translation:
He said, “O’ Fool, knowing that you are old, I had spared your life, and yet you have the audacity to challenge me, O’ Lowly creature.” Saying these words, Meghnad hurled his fast-moving trident at Jambvant. Jambvant caught the trident with his hands, rushed towards Meghnad,…
भावार्थ:
और उसे मेघनाद की छाती पर दे मारा। वह देवताओं का शत्रु चक्कर खाकर पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़ा। जाम्बवान् ने फिर क्रोध में भरकर पैर पकड़कर उसको घुमाया और पृथ्वी पर पटककर उसे अपना बल दिखलाया॥4॥
English Translation:
…and stuck it into Meghnad’s chest. The enemy of Demigods, Meghnad, swirled, and fell to the ground. Jambvant then in a fit of fury, caught hold of Meghnad’s foot, swung him around, and dashed him against the ground. In this way, Jambvant displayed his strength to Meghnad.
भावार्थ:
(किन्तु) वरदान के प्रताप से वह मारे नहीं मरता। तब जाम्बवान् ने उसका पैर पकड़कर उसे लंका पर फेंक दिया। इधर देवर्षि नारदजी ने गरुड़ को भेजा। वे तुरंत ही श्री रामजी के पास आ पहुँचे॥5॥
English Translation:
But because of the boon granted to Meghnad (by Lord Brahma), he did not die even after such a deadly blow. Thereupon, Jambvant seized him by the foot and tossed him onto Lanka. Meanwhile, Sage Narad dispatched Garud ji, who quickly arrived by Lord Ram’s side.
भावार्थ:
पक्षीराज गरुड़जी सब माया-सर्पों के समूहों को पकड़कर खा गए। तब सब वानरों के झुंड माया से रहित होकर हर्षित हुए॥74 क॥
English Translation:
The King of Birds, Garud ji, seized and devoured all the swarms of snakes created by Meghnad’s illusory powers. Once the illusion (Maya) was dispelled, the monkey army rejoiced.
भावार्थ:
पर्वत, वृक्ष, पत्थर और नख धारण किए वानर क्रोधित होकर दौड़े। निशाचर विशेष व्याकुल होकर भाग चले और भागकर किले पर चढ़ गए॥74 ख॥
English Translation:
In a rage of fury, the monkeys rushed forth carrying mountains, rocks, trees, and used their claws as weapons. The demons, terrified, fled and climbed up the fort.
