भावार्थ:
फिर प्रभु ने हनुमान्जी को बुला लिया। भगवान् ने कहा- तुम लंका जाओ। जानकी को सब समाचार सुनाओ और उसका कुशल समाचार लेकर तुम चले आओ॥1॥
English Translation:
Then the Almighty Lord called upon Hanuman ji and instructed him, “Go to Lanka and give the news to Janaki, and return with news of her well-being.”
भावार्थ:
तब हनुमान्जी नगर में आए। यह सुनकर राक्षस-राक्षसी (उनके सत्कार के लिए) दौड़े। उन्होंने बहुत प्रकार से हनुमान्जी की पूजा की और फिर श्री जानकीजी को दिखला दिया॥2॥
English Translation:
Hearing that Hanuman ji had come to the city, all the demons and demonesses rushed forward and offered their prayers to him in various ways. Thereafter, they escorted him to the presence of Janaki ji.
भावार्थ:
हनुमान्जी ने (सीताजी को) दूर से ही प्रणाम किया। जानकीजी ने पहचान लिया कि यह वही श्री रघुनाथजी का दूत है (और पूछा-) हे तात! कहो, कृपा के धाम मेरे प्रभु छोटे भाई और वानरों की सेना सहित कुशल से तो हैं?॥3॥
English Translation:
Hanuman ji bowed to Sita ji from a respectable distance, and She recognized him as Shri Raghupati’s envoy. She said, “Tell me, son, is my gracious Lord doing well along with His younger brother and the monkey army?”
भावार्थ:
(हनुमान्जी ने कहा-) हे माता! कोसलपति श्री रामजी सब प्रकार से सकुशल हैं। उन्होंने संग्राम में दस सिर वाले रावण को जीत लिया है और विभीषण ने अचल राज्य प्राप्त किया है। हनुमान्जी के वचन सुनकर सीताजी के हृदय में हर्ष छा गया॥4॥
English Translation:
Hanuman ji replied, “The Lord of Koshal is fine in every way. Mother, the Lord defeated the ten-headed Ravan in battle, and Vibhishan has attained everlasting dominion over Lanka.” Hearing Hanuman ji’s words, Sita ji’s heart was filled with joy.
भावार्थ:
श्री जानकीजी के हृदय में अत्यंत हर्ष हुआ। उनका शरीर पुलकित हो गया और नेत्रों में (आनंदाश्रुओं का) जल छा गया। वे बार-बार कहती हैं- हे हनुमान्! मैं तुझे क्या दूँ? इस वाणी (समाचार) के समान तीनों लोकों में और कुछ भी नहीं है! (हनुमान्जी ने कहा-) हे माता! सुनिए, मैंने आज निःसंदेह सारे जगत् का राज्य पा लिया, जो मैं रण में शत्रु को जीतकर भाई सहित निर्विकार श्री रामजी को देख रहा हूँ।
English Translation:
Goddess Rama (Sita ji) was overjoyed; a thrill ran through Her body, and Her eyes welled up with tears of happiness. She said repeatedly, “What should I bestow upon you from the three worlds (Earth, Heaven, and the Subterranean region), O’ Hanuman? I cannot find anything equal in value or more precious than your words.” Hanuman ji replied, “Listen, O’ Mother, I have attained the sovereignty of the entire universe today. There is no doubt about this because I am able to behold Shri Ram along with His brother, Lakshman ji, safe and sound, after winning over the enemy’s ranks on the battlefield.”
भावार्थ:
(जानकीजी ने कहा-) हे पुत्र! सुन, समस्त सद्गुण तेरे हृदय में बसें और हे हनुमान्! शेष (लक्ष्मणजी) सहित कोसलपति प्रभु सदा तुझ पर प्रसन्न रहें॥107॥
English Translation:
Sita ji replied, “Listen, dear son Hanuman, may all good virtues reside in your heart, and may the Lord of Koshal, Shri Ram, along with His brother, Anant (Shri Lakshman), always be gracious upon you…
भावार्थ:
हे तात! अब तुम वही उपाय करो, जिससे मैं इन नेत्रों से प्रभु के कोमल श्याम शरीर के दर्शन करूँ। तब श्री रामचंद्रजी के पास जाकर हनुमान्जी ने जानकीजी का कुशल समाचार सुनाया॥1॥
English Translation:
…Son, now find a way for me to behold the tender, dark-hued body of my Lord with my own eyes.” Hanuman ji then went to Shri Ram and informed Him about the well-being of King Janak’s daughter.
भावार्थ:
सूर्य कुलभूषण श्री रामजी ने संदेश सुनकर युवराज अंगद और विभीषण को बुला लिया (और कहा-) पवनपुत्र हनुमान् के साथ जाओ और जानकी को आदर के साथ ले आओ॥2॥
English Translation:
Upon hearing Sita ji’s message, the crown jewel of the Solar race, Shri Ram, called upon Prince Angad and Vibhishan and instructed them by saying, “Both of you accompany the son of the Wind God and respectfully bring Janak ji’s daughter here.”
भावार्थ:
वे सब तुरंत ही वहाँ गए, जहाँ सीताजी थीं। सब की सब राक्षसियाँ नम्रतापूर्वक उनकी सेवा कर रही थीं। विभीषणजी ने शीघ्र ही उन लोगों को समझा दिया। उन्होंने बहुत प्रकार से सीताजी को स्नान कराया,॥3॥
English Translation:
Everyone immediately proceeded to where Sita ji was. The demonesses reverently serving Sita ji were quickly instructed by Vibhishan to make the necessary arrangements for her departure. They bathed Sita ji in various ways.
भावार्थ:
बहुत प्रकार के गहने पहनाए और फिर वे एक सुंदर पालकी सजाकर ले आए। सीताजी प्रसन्न होकर सुख के धाम प्रियतम श्री रामजी का स्मरण करके उस पर हर्ष के साथ चढ़ीं॥4॥
English Translation:
They then adorned Sita ji’s body with ornaments of every description and brought a fully decorated, charming palanquin. Sita ji mounted it gladly, invoking Her beloved Shri Ram, the abode of bliss, in Her heart.
भावार्थ:
चारों ओर हाथों में छड़ी लिए रक्षक चले। सबके मनों में परम उल्लास (उमंग) है। रीछ-वानर सब दर्शन करने के लिए आए, तब रक्षक क्रोध करके उनको रोकने दौड़े॥5॥
English Translation:
Guards marched on all four sides with staves in hand, their hearts brimming with joy. All the monkeys and bears rushed to catch a glimpse of Sita ji, but the guards ran angrily to keep them back.
भावार्थ:
श्री रघुवीर ने कहा- हे मित्र! मेरा कहना मानो और सीता को पैदल ले आओ, जिससे वानर उसको माता की तरह देखें। गोसाईं श्री रामजी ने हँसकर ऐसा कहा॥6॥
English Translation:
Seeing this, Shri Raghuveer spoke to Vibhishan, “Listen, friend, follow my advice and bring Sita on foot.” The Lord of the senses, Shri Raghunath, laughed and continued, “Let the monkeys gaze upon her as they would their own mother.”
भावार्थ:
प्रभु के वचन सुनकर रीछ-वानर हर्षित हो गए। आकाश से देवताओं ने बहुत से फूल बरसाए। सीताजी (के असली स्वरूप) को पहिले अग्नि में रखा था। अब भीतर के साक्षी भगवान् उनको प्रकट करना चाहते हैं॥7॥
English Translation:
Hearing the Lord’s words, the monkeys and bears rejoiced, while the Demigods rained down many flowers from the sky. The real Sita ji, a secret known only to Lord Ram, Sita ji, and the fire God, had been lodged with the fire deity. Now, the Lord, who is the inner witness of all, wanted to bring her back to light and return the present illusory Sita ji (whom Ravan had abducted) to the fire God.
भावार्थ:
इसी कारण करुणा के भंडार श्री रामजी ने लीला से कुछ कड़े वचन कहे, जिन्हे सुनकर सब राक्षसियाँ विषाद करने लगीं॥108॥
English Translation:
For this very reason, the ocean of mercy, Shri Ram, pretended and spoke some harsh words. Hearing Shri Ram’s words, all the demonesses started lamenting.
भावार्थ:
प्रभु के वचनों को सिर चढ़ाकर मन, वचन और कर्म से पवित्र श्री सीताजी बोलीं- हे लक्ष्मण! तुम मेरे धर्म के नेगी (धर्माचरण में सहायक) बनो और तुरंत आग तैयार करो॥1॥
English Translation:
Sita ji respectfully bowed to the Lord’s command. Pure as She was in thought, words, and deeds, She spoke, “Lakshman, please help me as a priest in the performance of this sacred rite and quickly light the fire.”
भावार्थ:
श्री सीताजी की विरह, विवेक, धर्म और नीति से सनी हुई वाणी सुनकर लक्ष्मणजी के नेत्रों में (विषाद के आँसुओं का) जल भर आया। वे हाथ जोड़े खड़े रहे। वे भी प्रभु से कुछ कह नहीं सकते॥2॥
English Translation:
Hearing Sita ji’s words, full of anguish caused by Her separation from the Lord and imbued with amiability, righteousness, and policy, Lakshman ji’s eyes welled up with tears. He joined his palms in prayer, but could not utter a word to the Lord.
भावार्थ:
फिर श्री रामजी का रुख देखकर लक्ष्मणजी दौड़े और आग तैयार करके बहुत सी लकड़ी ले आए। अग्नि को खूब बढ़ी हुई देखकर जानकीजी के हृदय में हर्ष हुआ। उन्हें भय कुछ भी नहीं हुआ॥3॥
English Translation:
Reading Lord Ram’s expression and approval in His looks, Shri Lakshman ran and, after lighting a fire, brought plenty of firewood. Seeing the blazing fire, Sita ji rejoiced in Her heart and had no fear at all.
भावार्थ:
(सीताजी ने लीला से कहा-) यदि मन, वचन और कर्म से मेरे हृदय में श्री रघुवीर को छोड़कर दूसरी गति (अन्य किसी का आश्रय) नहीं है, तो अग्निदेव जो सबके मन की गति जानते हैं, (मेरे भी मन की गति जानकर) मेरे लिए चंदन के समान शीतल हो जाएँ॥4॥
English Translation:
As part of the plot of Her worldly act, Sita ji spoke, “If in thought, word, and deed, I have not set my heart on anyone except Shri Raghuveer, then may this fire, who knows what goes on in everyone’s heart, become cool like sandalwood paste to me.”
भावार्थ:
प्रभु श्री रामजी का स्मरण करके और जिनके चरण महादेवजी के द्वारा वंदित हैं तथा जिनमें सीताजी की अत्यंत विशुद्ध प्रीति है, उन कोसलपति की जय बोलकर जानकीजी ने चंदन के समान शीतल हुई अग्नि में प्रवेश किया। प्रतिबिम्ब (सीताजी की छायामूर्ति) और उनका लौकिक कलंक प्रचण्ड अग्नि में जल गए। प्रभु के इन चरित्रों को किसी ने नहीं जाना। देवता, सिद्ध और मुनि सब आकाश में खड़े देखते हैं॥1॥
English Translation:
The princess of Mithila, Sita ji, thereby entered the fire as cool as sandalwood paste, after invoking Lord Ram in Her heart and saying, “Glory to the Lord of the Koshal Kingdom, whose feet are adored by Lord Mahesh with the purest devotion.” The illusory shadow image of Sita ji, along with the social stigma (of Sita ji’s forced confinement by Ravan in Lanka), was consumed in the blazing fire. But no one could understand the real secret of the Lord’s doings. Even the Demigods, realized saints, and sages stood gazing in the sky.
भावार्थ:
तब अग्नि ने शरीर धारण करके वेदों में और जगत् में प्रसिद्ध वास्तविक श्री (सीताजी) का हाथ पकड़ उन्हें श्री रामजी को वैसे ही समर्पित किया जैसे क्षीरसागर ने विष्णु भगवान् को लक्ष्मी समर्पित की थीं। वे सीताजी श्री रामचंद्रजी के वाम भाग में विराजित हुईं। उनकी उत्तम शोभा अत्यंत ही सुंदर है। मानो नए खिले हुए नीले कमल के पास सोने के कमल की कली सुशोभित हो॥2॥
English Translation:
Then the fire deity assumed a bodily form and, taking by hand the real Sita ji, who is celebrated alike in the Vedas and the entire cosmos, escorted and presented Her to Shri Ram. This was similar to how the Ocean of Milk had presented Goddess Indira (Lakshmi ji) to Lord Vishnu at the time of the churning of the milky ocean. Sita ji shone resplendent in Her exquisite beauty, like a golden lotus bud beside a fresh blue lotus.
भावार्थ:
देवता हर्षित होकर फूल बरसाने लगे। आकाश में डंके बजने लगे। किन्नर गाने लगे। विमानों पर चढ़ी अप्सराएँ नाचने लगीं॥109 (क)॥
English Translation:
The Demigods rejoiced, raining down flowers from the sky and sounding kettledrums. The Kinnars sang, while the celestial damsels danced, all aboard their aerial vehicles.
भावार्थ:
श्री जानकीजी सहित प्रभु श्री रामचंद्रजी की अपरिमित और अपार शोभा देखकर रीछ-वानर हर्षित हो गए और सुख के सार श्री रघुनाथजी की जय बोलने लगे॥109 (ख)॥
English Translation:
Seeing the limitless beauty of Lord Ram along with Janak ji’s daughter, the monkeys and bears rejoiced and shouted, “Glory to Shri Raghupati, the essence of divine bliss.”
भावार्थ:
तब श्री रघुनाथजी की आज्ञा पाकर इंद्र का सारथी मातलि चरणों में सिर नवाकर (रथ लेकर) चला गया। तदनन्तर सदा के स्वार्थी देवता आए। वे ऐसे वचन कह रहे हैं मानो बड़े परमार्थी हों॥1॥
English Translation:
Then, after receiving Lord Ram’s orders, Demigod Indra’s charioteer, Matali, bowed his head at the Lord’s feet and departed. The Demigods, known for their selfish interests, approached Lord Ram and spoke words as if they were seekers of the highest truth.
भावार्थ:
हे दीनबन्धु! हे दयालु रघुराज! हे परमदेव! आपने देवताओं पर बड़ी दया की। विश्व के द्रोह में तत्पर यह दुष्ट, कामी और कुमार्ग पर चलने वाला रावण अपने ही पाप से नष्ट हो गया॥2॥
English Translation:
They said, “O’ Friend of the suppliant, merciful Chief of the Raghus, O’ Lord, you have bestowed your mercy upon us Demigods. This wretched and lustful Ravan, who was engrossed in harming the entire world and always walked an evil path, has perished because of his own sins…
भावार्थ:
आप समरूप, ब्रह्म, अविनाशी, नित्य, एकरस, स्वभाव से ही उदासीन (शत्रु-मित्र-भावरहित), अखंड, निर्गुण (मायिक गुणों से रहित), अजन्मे, निष्पाप, निर्विकार, अजेय, अमोघशक्ति (जिनकी शक्ति कभी व्यर्थ नहीं जाती) और दयामय हैं॥3॥
English Translation:
…You are alike to all, the Supreme Lord, immortal, ever unchangeable, naturally detached, devoid of material properties and endowed with divine qualities, unborn, sinless, immutable, invincible, unfailing in strength, and full of compassion…
भावार्थ:
आपने ही मत्स्य, कच्छप, वराह, नृसिंह, वामन और परशुराम के शरीर धारण किए। हे नाथ! जब-जब देवताओं ने दुःख पाया, तब-तब अनेकों शरीर धारण करके आपने ही उनका दुःख नाश किया॥4॥
English Translation:
…It was You who assumed the divine forms (avatars) of a fish, a tortoise, a boar, a lion-man, a dwarf, Shri Parshuram. Whenever, O’ Lord, the Demigods are in trouble, You assume an avatar and put an end to our troubles…
भावार्थ:
यह दुष्ट मलिन हृदय, देवताओं का नित्य शत्रु, काम, लोभ और मद के परायण तथा अत्यंत क्रोधी था। ऐसे अधमों के शिरोमणि ने भी आपका परम पद पा लिया। इस बात का हमारे मन में आश्चर्य हुआ॥5॥
English Translation:
…This vile Ravan, sinful and always hostile towards Demigods, was given to lust, greed, false pride, and extreme anger. This crown jewel of sinful persons has attained the highest state by finding a place at Your feet. Our hearts are wonderstruck because of this fact…
भावार्थ:
हम देवता श्रेष्ठ अधिकारी होकर भी स्वार्थपरायण हो आपकी भक्ति को भुलाकर निरंतर भवसागर के प्रवाह (जन्म-मृत्यु के चक्र) में पड़े हैं। अब हे प्रभो! हम आपकी शरण में आ गए हैं, हमारी रक्षा कीजिए॥6॥
English Translation:
…Though we Demigods are supremely qualified for this highest state of liberation, yet, engrossed in our own self-interest, we have forgotten Your worship O’ Lord, and are ever swimming in the ocean of repeated births and deaths. Now O’ Lord, protect us, since we have sought shelter in You.”
भावार्थ:
विनती करके देवता और सिद्ध सब जहाँ के तहाँ हाथ जोड़े खड़े रहे। तब अत्यंत प्रेम से पुलकित शरीर होकर ब्रह्माजी स्तुति करने लगे–॥110॥
English Translation:
After making their supplication, the Demigods and realized saints stood with joined palms. Then, overflowing with love and with a thrill running through his body, Lord Brahma once again exalted Shri Ram.
