• देखा भरत बिसाल अति निसिचर मन अनुमानि।
  बिनु फर सायक मारेउ चाप श्रवन लगि तानि॥58॥

भावार्थ:
भरतजी ने आकाश में अत्यंत विशाल स्वरूप देखा, तब मन में अनुमान किया कि यह कोई राक्षस है। उन्होंने कान तक धनुष को खींचकर बिना फल का एक बाण मारा॥58॥

English Translation:
When Bharat ji saw Hanuman ji flying above Ayodhya, he mistook him for a massive demon. He drew his bow to his ear and struck him with a headless arrow.

• परेउ मुरुछि महि लागत सायक। सुमिरत राम राम रघुनायक॥
  सुनि प्रिय बचन भरत तब धाए। कपि समीप अति आतुर आए॥1॥

भावार्थ:
बाण लगते ही हनुमान्‌जी ‘राम, राम, रघुपति’ का उच्चारण करते हुए मूर्च्छित होकर पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़े। प्रिय वचन (रामनाम) सुनकर भरतजी उठकर दौड़े और बड़ी उतावली से हनुमान्‌जी के पास आए॥1॥

English Translation:
Hanuman ji fell unconscious to the ground, muttering, “Shri Ram, Shri Ram, Shri Raghunayak.” Hearing these pleasing words, Bharat ji ran quickly and approached Hanuman ji.

• बिकल बिलोकि कीस उर लावा। जागत नहिं बहु भाँति जगावा॥
  मुख मलीन मन भए दुखारी। कहत बचन भरि लोचन बारी॥2॥

भावार्थ:
हनुमान्‌जी को व्याकुल देखकर उन्होंने हृदय से लगा लिया। बहुत तरह से जगाया, पर वे जागते न थे! तब भरतजी का मुख उदास हो गया। वे मन में बड़े दुःखी हुए और नेत्रों में (विषाद के आँसुओं का) जल भरकर ये वचन बोले-॥2॥

English Translation:
Seeing Hanuman ji in distress, Bharat ji embraced him, holding him close to his chest. He tried every means to bring him back to consciousness, but all his efforts were in vain. With a sad face and pain in his heart, Bharat ji spoke with tears welling up in his eyes…

• जेहिं बिधि राम बिमुख मोहि कीन्हा। तेहिं पुनि यह दारुन दुख दीन्हा॥
  जौं मोरें मन बच अरु काया। प्रीति राम पद कमल अमाया॥3॥

भावार्थ:
जिस विधाता ने मुझे श्री राम से विमुख किया, उसी ने फिर यह भयानक दुःख भी दिया। यदि मन, वचन और शरीर से श्री रामजी के चरणकमलों में मेरा निष्कपट प्रेम हो,॥3॥

…”The Lord who separated me from Shri Ram has now inflicted me with this terrible suffering again. If I have unalloyed devotion to Shri Ram’s feet in my thoughts, words, and deeds…

• तौ कपि होउ बिगत श्रम सूला। जौं मो पर रघुपति अनुकूला॥
  सुनत बचन उठि बैठ कपीसा। कहि जय जयति कोसलाधीसा॥4॥

भावार्थ:
और यदि श्री रघुनाथजी मुझ पर प्रसन्न हों तो यह वानर थकावट और पीड़ा से रहित हो जाए। यह वचन सुनते ही कपिराज हनुमान्‌जी ‘कोसलपति श्री रामचंद्रजी की जय हो, जय हो’ कहते हुए उठ बैठे॥4॥

English Translation:
…and if Lord Raghupati is favourable towards me, then this monkey should quickly be relieved of all exhaustion and pain.” As soon as these words reached Hanuman ji’s ears, the monkey chief arose and sat up, shouting, “Glory to the Lord of the Koshal Kingdom!”

• लीन्ह कपिहि उर लाइ पुलकित तनु लोचन सजल।
  प्रीति न हृदय समाइ सुमिरि राम रघुकुल तिलक॥59॥

भावार्थ:
भरतजी ने वानर (हनुमान्‌जी) को हृदय से लगा लिया, उनका शरीर पुलकित हो गया और नेत्रों में (आनंद तथा प्रेम के आँसुओं का) जल भर आया। रघुकुलतिलक श्री रामचंद्रजी का स्मरण करके भरतजी के हृदय में प्रीति समाती न थी॥59॥

English Translation:
Bharat ji embraced Hanuman ji. His body thrilled with emotion and his eyes filled up with tears. Bharat ji’s heart overflowed with love as he thought of Shri Ram, the glory of the Raghu’s race.

• तात कुसल कहु सुखनिधान की। सहित अनुज अरु मातु जानकी॥
  कपि सब चरित समास बखाने। भए दुखी मन महुँ पछिताने॥1॥

भावार्थ:
(भरतजी बोले-) हे तात! छोटे भाई लक्ष्मण तथा माता जानकी सहित सुखनिधान श्री रामजी की कुशल कहो। वानर (हनुमान्‌जी) ने संक्षेप में सब कथा कही। सुनकर भरतजी दुःखी हुए और मन में पछताने लगे॥1॥

English Translation:
Bharat ji said, “O’ Brother, tell me about the well-being of the fountain of bliss, Shri Ram, along with His younger brother Shri Lakshman and mother Janaki.” Hanuman ji briefly narrated the entire series of events. Upon hearing them, Bharat ji felt deeply saddened, and his heart filled up with remorse.

• अहह दैव मैं कत जग जायउँ। प्रभु के एकहु काज न आयउँ॥
  जानि कुअवसरु मन धरि धीरा। पुनि कपि सन बोले बलबीरा॥2॥

हा दैव! मैं जगत्‌ में क्यों जन्मा? प्रभु के एक भी काम न आया। फिर कुअवसर (विपरीत समय) जानकर मन में धीरज धरकर बलवीर भरतजी हनुमान्‌जी से बोले-॥2॥

• तात गहरु होइहि तोहि जाता। काजु नसाइहि होत प्रभाता॥
  चढ़ु मम सायक सैल समेता। पठवौं तोहि जहँ कृपानिकेता॥3॥

भावार्थ:
हे तात! तुमको जाने में देर होगी और सबेरा होते ही काम बिगड़ जाएगा। (अतः) तुम पर्वत सहित मेरे बाण पर चढ़ जाओ, मैं तुमको वहाँ भेज दूँ जहाँ कृपा के धाम श्री रामजी हैं॥3॥

English Translation:
…”O’ Brother, you are getting late on your journey. If you do not reach Lanka by daybreak, it might be too late. Therefore, embark on my arrow along with the mountain, and I will send you straight to where the abode of mercy, Shri Ram, is.”

• सुनि कपि मन उपजा अभिमाना। मोरें भार चलिहि किमि बाना॥
  राम प्रभाव बिचारि बहोरी। बंदि चरन कह कपि कर जोरी॥4॥

भावार्थ:
भरतजी की यह बात सुनकर (एक बार तो) हनुमान्‌जी के मन में अभिमान उत्पन्न हुआ कि मेरे बोझ से बाण कैसे चलेगा? (किन्तु) फिर श्री रामचंद्रजी के प्रभाव का विचार करके वे भरतजी के चरणों की वंदना करके हाथ जोड़कर बोले-॥4॥

• तव प्रताप उर राखि प्रभु जैहउँ नाथ तुरंत।
  अस कहि आयसु पाइ पद बंदि चलेउ हनुमंत॥60 क॥

भावार्थ:
हे नाथ! हे प्रभो! मैं आपका प्रताप हृदय में रखकर तुरंत चला जाऊँगा। ऐसा कहकर आज्ञा पाकर और भरतजी के चरणों की वंदना करके हनुमान्‌जी चले॥60 (क)॥

English Translation:
…”O’ Lord, keeping your renown in my heart, I will quickly proceed.” Saying these words and obtaining Bharat ji’s permission, Hanuman ji bowed at his feet and departed.

• भरत बाहु बल सील गुन प्रभु पद प्रीति अपार।
  मन महुँ जात सराहत पुनि पुनि पवनकुमार॥60 ख॥

भावार्थ:
भरतजी के बाहुबल, शील (सुंदर स्वभाव), गुण और प्रभु के चरणों में अपार प्रेम की मन ही मन बारंबार सराहना करते हुए मारुति श्री हनुमान्‌जी चले जा रहे हैं॥60 (ख)॥

English Translation:
On his way, the son of the Wind God repeatedly extolled the strength of Bharat ji’s arms, his amiability, virtues, and his boundless devotion to the lotus feet of Shri Ram.

• उहाँ राम लछिमनहि निहारी। बोले बचन मनुज अनुसारी॥
  अर्ध राति गइ कपि नहिं आयउ। राम उठाइ अनुज उर लायउ॥1॥

भावार्थ:
वहाँ लक्ष्मणजी को देखकर श्री रामजी साधारण मनुष्यों के अनुसार (समान) वचन बोले- आधी रात बीत चुकी है, हनुमान्‌ नहीं आए। यह कहकर श्री रामजी ने छोटे भाई लक्ष्मणजी को उठाकर हृदय से लगा लिया॥1॥

  मम हित लागि तजेहु पितु माता। सहेहु बिपिन हिम आतप बाता॥2॥

भावार्थ:
(और बोले-) हे भाई! तुम मुझे कभी दुःखी नहीं देख सकते थे। तुम्हारा स्वभाव सदा से ही कोमल था। मेरे हित के लिए तुमने माता-पिता को भी छोड़ दिया और वन में जाड़ा, गरमी और हवा सब सहन किया॥2॥

English Translation:
…”Brother, you could never bear to see me sad, you always had such a gentle disposition. For my well-being, you left our father and mother and endured the cold, heat, and blowing winds of the forest…

• सो अनुराग कहाँ अब भाई। उठहु न सुनि मम बच बिकलाई॥
  जौं जनतेउँ बन बंधु बिछोहू। पिता बचन मनतेउँ नहिं ओहू॥3॥

भावार्थ:
हे भाई! वह प्रेम अब कहाँ है? मेरे व्याकुलतापूर्वक वचन सुनकर उठते क्यों नहीं? यदि मैं जानता कि वन में भाई का विछोह होगा तो मैं पिता का वचन (जिसका मानना मेरे लिए परम कर्तव्य था) उसे भी न मानता॥3॥

English Translation:
…Where has that old love gone now, brother? Why are you not getting up after hearing my lament? If I had known that I would lose my brother in the forest, I would have never obeyed even my father’s command…

• सुत बित नारि भवन परिवारा। होहिं जाहिं जग बारहिं बारा॥
  अस बिचारि जियँ जागहु ताता। मिलइ न जगत सहोदर भ्राता॥4॥

भावार्थ:
पुत्र, धन, स्त्री, घर और परिवार- ये जगत्‌ में बार-बार होते और जाते हैं, परन्तु जगत्‌ में सहोदर भाई बार-बार नहीं मिलता। हृदय में ऐसा विचार कर हे तात! जागो॥4॥

English Translation:
…Sons, wealth, wife, home, and family in this world repeatedly come and go, but real brothers cannot be had again. So knowing this truth in your heart, arise, dear brother…
