भावार्थ:
कभी-कभी वायु बड़े जोर से चलने लगती है, जिससे बादल जहाँ-तहाँ गायब हो जाते हैं। जैसे कुपुत्र के उत्पन्न होने से कुल के उत्तम धर्म (श्रेष्ठ आचरण) नष्ट हो जाते हैं॥15 (क)॥
English Translation:
At times, the gusty winds would blow, and the clouds would scatter in various directions, just like with the birth of an unworthy son, all the virtuous deeds of a family get destroyed.
भावार्थ:
कभी (बादलों के कारण) दिन में घोर अंधकार छा जाता है और कभी सूर्य प्रकट हो जाते हैं। जैसे कुसंग पाकर ज्ञान नष्ट हो जाता है और सुसंग पाकर उत्पन्न हो जाता है॥15 (ख)॥
English Translation:
At times, the Sun hides in the clouds, resulting in total darkness, and at other times, it emerges, much like wisdom that appears in good company and fades away in the association of bad company.
भावार्थ:
हे लक्ष्मण! देखो, वर्षा बीत गई और परम सुंदर शरद् ऋतु आ गई। फूले हुए कास से सारी पृथ्वी छा गई। मानो वर्षा ऋतु ने (कास रूपी सफेद बालों के रूप में) अपना बुढ़ापा प्रकट किया है॥1॥
English Translation:
See Lakshman, rainy season has ended and the charming Autumn season has arrived. The entire Earth is covered by the Kusa grass adorned with white flowers, as if the rainy season has unveiled its old age.
भावार्थ:
अगस्त्य के तारे ने उदय होकर मार्ग के जल को सोख लिया, जैसे संतोष लोभ को सोख लेता है। नदियों और तालाबों का निर्मल जल ऐसी शोभा पा रहा है जैसे मद और मोह से रहित संतों का हृदय!॥2॥
English Translation:
The Agastya star has emerged and dried up the water from the paths, much like how contentment swallows greed. The clear waters of rivers and lakes look charming, just as a saint’s heart is free from false pride and attachments.
भावार्थ:
नदी और तालाबों का जल धीरे-धीरे सूख रहा है। जैसे ज्ञानी (विवेकी) पुरुष ममता का त्याग करते हैं। शरद ऋतु जानकर खंजन पक्षी आ गए। जैसे समय पाकर सुंदर सुकृत आ सकते हैं। (पुण्य प्रकट हो जाते हैं)॥3॥
English Translation:
The water in rivers and lakes is gradually drying up, much like how the wise renounce attachments. Recognizing the arrival of Autumn, the wagtail birds appear, akin to how good virtues come to a person when the propitious time arrives.
भावार्थ:
न कीचड़ है न धूल? इससे धरती (निर्मल होकर) ऐसी शोभा दे रही है जैसे नीतिनिपुण राजा की करनी! जल के कम हो जाने से मछलियाँ व्याकुल हो रही हैं, जैसे मूर्ख (विवेक शून्य) कुटुम्बी (गृहस्थ) धन के बिना व्याकुल होता है॥4॥
English Translation:
Devoid of sludge and dust, the earth has assumed a lovely appearance, much like the administration of a monarch who is well-versed in politics. With diminishing waters, the fish become distressed, much like the foolish householders who worry in the absence of money.
भावार्थ:
बिना बादलों का निर्मल आकाश ऐसा शोभित हो रहा है जैसे भगवद्भक्त सब आशाओं को छोड़कर सुशोभित होते हैं। कहीं-कहीं (विरले ही स्थानों में) शरद् ऋतु की थोड़ी-थोड़ी वर्षा हो रही है। जैसे कोई विरले ही मेरी भक्ति पाते हैं॥5॥
English Translation:
A clear sky, devoid of clouds, looks charming, just like a devotee of Lord Hari who has renounced all desires. Light showers of the Autumn season fall here and there, akin to how devotion towards me develops in rare souls.
भावार्थ:
(शरद् ऋतु पाकर) राजा, तपस्वी, व्यापारी और भिखारी (क्रमशः विजय, तप, व्यापार और भिक्षा के लिए) हर्षित होकर नगर छोड़कर चले। जैसे श्री हरि की भक्ति पाकर चारों आश्रम वाले (नाना प्रकार के साधन रूपी) श्रमों को त्याग देते हैं॥16॥
English Translation:
With the onset of Autumn, the four societal classes, namely royalty, ascetics, tradesmen, and beggars, depart from the city with joy, each embarking on their distinct pursuits. The king seeks victory over foes or the extension of his dominions, the ascetics search for a suitable place to engage in penance, the tradesmen conduct business, and the beggars seek alms. Just as upon attaining devotion for Lord Hari, men in any of the four stages of life (student life, married life, asceticism, and renunciation) renounce their respective works.

जो मछलियाँ अथाह जल में हैं, वे सुखी हैं, जैसे श्री हरि के शरण में चले जाने पर एक भी बाधा नहीं रहती। कमलों के फूलने से तालाब कैसी शोभा दे रहा है, जैसे निर्गुण ब्रह्म सगुण होने पर शोभित होता है॥1॥
English Translation:
The fish are happy in deep waters, just like a person under the refuge of Lord Hari never falls into any kind of trouble. The lakes glorify with fully bloomed lotuses, just as the formless God attains a divine form.
भावार्थ:
भौंरे अनुपम शब्द करते हुए गूँज रहे हैं तथा पक्षियों के नाना प्रकार के सुंदर शब्द हो रहे हैं। रात्रि देखकर चकवे के मन में वैसे ही दुःख हो रहा है, जैसे दूसरे की संपत्ति देखकर दुष्ट को होता है॥2॥
English Translation:
The bees hum melodic sounds, and charming birds sing sweet notes. As night falls, the chakwa bird feels a sense of sadness, akin to a wicked person who eyes someone else’s wealth.
भावार्थ:
पपीहा रट लगाए है, उसको बड़ी प्यास है, जैसे श्री शंकरजी का द्रोही सुख नहीं पाता (सुख के लिए झीखता रहता है) शरद् ऋतु के ताप को रात के समय चंद्रमा हर लेता है, जैसे संतों के दर्शन से पाप दूर हो जाते हैं॥3॥
English Translation:
The papaya bird chirps repeatedly, and he is very thirsty, just as a person hostile to Lord Shankar can never find happiness. The night moon relieves the heat of the autumnal sun, just as the sight of a saint drives away sins.
भावार्थ:
चकोरों के समुदाय चंद्रमा को देखकर इस प्रकार टकटकी लगाए हैं जैसे भगवद्भक्त भगवान् को पाकर उनके (निर्निमेष नेत्रों से) दर्शन करते हैं। मच्छर और डाँस जाड़े के डर से इस प्रकार नष्ट हो गए जैसे ब्राह्मण के साथ वैर करने से कुल का नाश हो जाता है॥4॥
English Translation:
Flocks of partridges fix their eyes on the Moon, just as a devotee gazes at Lord Hari upon meeting Him. Mosquitoes and horseflies have perished due to the fear of cold, just as hostility towards Brahmins brings ruin to the entire family.
भावार्थ:
(वर्षा ऋतु के कारण) पृथ्वी पर जो जीव भर गए थे, वे शरद् ऋतु को पाकर वैसे ही नष्ट हो गए जैसे सद्गुरु के मिल जाने पर संदेह और भ्रम के समूह नष्ट हो जाते हैं॥17॥
English Translation:
The abundance of insects and worms on Earth during the rainy season perished with the arrival of Autumn, much like how all illusions and doubts dissipate upon meeting a true and exceptional Guru.
भावार्थ:
वर्षा बीत गई, निर्मल शरद्ऋतु आ गई, परंतु हे तात! सीता की कोई खबर नहीं मिली। एक बार कैसे भी पता पाऊँ तो काल को भी जीतकर पल भर में जानकी को ले आऊँ॥1॥
English Translation:
The rains are over, and the delightful Autumn season with clear skies has arrived. However, there is still no news of Sita, O’ Brother. If somehow I could receive news of Sita just once, I would bring Her back in no time, even if I had to defeat the God of Death.
भावार्थ:
कहीं भी रहे, यदि जीती होगी तो हे तात! यत्न करके मैं उसे अवश्य लाऊँगा। राज्य, खजाना, नगर और स्त्री पा गया, इसलिए सुग्रीव ने भी मेरी सुध भुला दी॥2॥
English Translation:
Wherever She may be, dear brother, if only She is alive, I will make an effort and definitely bring Her. Sugriv has forgotten me after acquiring his Kingdom, treasury, the amenities of city life, and his own spouse.
भावार्थ:
जिस बाण से मैंने बालि को मारा था, उसी बाण से कल उस मूढ़ को मारूँ! (शिवजी कहते हैं-) हे उमा! जिनकी कृपा से मद और मोह छूट जाते हैं उनको कहीं स्वप्न में भी क्रोध हो सकता है? (यह तो लीला मात्र है)॥3॥
English Translation:
“I will use the same arrow with which I had killed Bali to finish that fool tomorrow.” Lord Shiv says, “O’ Uma, by the grace of whom one gets rid of false pride and attachments, can He get angry even in a dream?
भावार्थ:
ज्ञानी मुनि जिन्होंने श्री रघुनाथजी के चरणों में प्रीति मान ली है (जोड़ ली है), वे ही इस चरित्र (लीला रहस्य) को जानते हैं। लक्ष्मणजी ने जब प्रभु को क्रोधयुक्त जाना, तब उन्होंने धनुष चढ़ाकर बाण हाथ में ले लिए॥4॥
English Translation:
The enlightened sages who have devoted themselves to the feet of Shri Raghuveer very well know about this playful act of the Lord.” Sensing the Lord’s anger, Shri Lakshman strung His bow and took arrows in His hand.
