भावार्थ:
राजा ने राजकुमारी को नारदजी के सामने लाकर कहा—हे नाथ! कृपया अपने हृदय में विचार करके इसके गुण-दोष बताइए।
English Translation:
The king brought the princess before Narad ji and said, “O Lord, kindly reflect within your heart and tell me all the virtues and faults of this girl।”
भावार्थ:
राजकुमारी के रूप को देखकर मुनि अपना वैराग्य भूल गए और देर तक उसे निहारते रहे। उसके शुभ लक्षणों को देखकर वह स्वयं को भूल गए और हृदय में हर्षित हुए, परंतु उन्होंने उसे प्रकट नहीं किया।
English Translation:
Mesmerized by her beauty, the Sage forgot his dispassion and kept gazing at her. Observing her auspicious marks, he lost awareness of himself and felt joy within, but did not openly express it।
भावार्थ:
जो इसे विवाह में वरेगा, वह अमर हो जाएगा, और युद्धभूमि में कोई भी उसे जीत नहीं सकेगा। जो इस शीलनिधि की कन्या को पाएगा, संपूर्ण चराचर जगत उसकी सेवा करेगा।
English Translation:
Whoever weds her will become immortal, and none shall defeat him in battle. All of creation—moving and non-moving—will serve the one chosen by Sheelnidhi’s daughter।
भावार्थ:
नारदजी ने सारे लक्षण अपने हृदय में रख लिए और कुछ अपनी ओर से बनाकर राजा से कहे। राजकुमारी को सुलक्षणी कहकर वे चल दिए, पर मन में चिंता बनी रही।
English Translation:
Narad ji kept all her traits in his heart, added a few of his own, and told them to the king. Calling the princess virtuous, he departed—but concern lingered in his mind।
भावार्थ:
मैं अब जाकर सोच-विचारकर वही उपाय करूँ जिससे यह कन्या मुझे ही वरे। इस समय जप-तप कुछ काम नहीं आएँगे। हे विधाता! यह कन्या मुझे किस विधि से मिलेगी?
English Translation:
I should now consider a way so that the princess chooses me. At this moment, penance and prayer are of no use. O Creator! By what means shall I attain her?
भावार्थ:
इस समय मुझे अत्यंत शोभा और सुंदर रूप चाहिए, जिससे राजकुमारी रीझ जाए और मेरे गले में जयमाला डाल दे।
English Translation:
At this time, I need supreme beauty and magnificent form, such that the princess is charmed and places the wedding garland around my neck।
भावार्थ:
मैं भगवान से सुंदरता माँगूँ, पर उनके पास पहुँचने में देर होगी। परंतु मेरे हित में श्रीहरि जैसा और कोई नहीं, अतः वही इस समय मेरे सहायक हों।
English Translation:
I should ask Lord Hari for beauty, though reaching Him may take time. Yet, none are as well-wishing as He—so may He aid me now।
भावार्थ:
नारदजी ने अनेक प्रकार से भगवान से विनती की। तब लीलामय कृपालु प्रभु प्रकट हो गए। प्रभु को देखकर मुनि के नेत्र शीतल हो गए और वे मन में हर्षित हुए कि अब मेरा काम अवश्य बन जाएगा।
English Translation:
Narad ji prayed in many ways to the Lord. Then the playful, merciful Lord appeared. Seeing Him, the Sage’s eyes cooled, and he rejoiced within, confident his wish would now be fulfilled।
भावार्थ:
नारदजी ने अत्यंत दीनता से सारी कथा सुनाई और कहा—प्रभु! कृपा कर मुझे सहारा दीजिए। मुझे अपना स्वरूप दीजिए, अन्यथा कन्या मुझे नहीं मिल सकती।
English Translation:
Narad humbly shared the entire tale and said—“O Lord! Please bless me and be my support. Grant me Your own form, for otherwise, I cannot win the princess।”
भावार्थ:
हे नाथ! जैसे मेरा सबसे अधिक हित हो, आप शीघ्र वैसा करें। मैं आपका दास हूँ। अपनी विशाल माया का बल देखकर दीनदयालु प्रभु हृदय में हँसते हुए बोले—
English Translation:
“O Lord, do whatever best serves my interest—quickly—I am your humble servant.” Seeing the vast power of His own Maya, the merciful Lord smiled within.
भावार्थ:
हे नारद! जैसे तुम्हारा परम हित होगा, हम वैसा ही करेंगे। हमारा वचन कभी झूठा नहीं होता।
English Translation:
“O Narad! Know that I shall do whatever brings you the highest good—nothing else. My word is never untrue।”
भावार्थ:
हे योगी मुनि! सुनिए, जब कोई रोगी व्याकुल होकर अनुपयोगी वस्तु माँगता है, तो वैद्य उसे नहीं देता। इसी प्रकार, मैं तुम्हारे हित के लिए यह उपाय कर रहा हूँ। ऐसा कहकर भगवान अन्तर्धान हो गए।
English Translation:
“O Sage! If a sick man desperately asks for what is harmful, a wise doctor does not give it. In the same way, I act for your good.” So saying, the Lord disappeared।
भावार्थ:
भगवान की माया से मुनि ऐसे मूढ़ हो गए कि वे भगवान की स्पष्ट बात भी न समझ सके। वे तुरंत स्वयंवर स्थल की ओर चल पड़े।
English Translation:
Overcome by the Lord’s Maya, the Sage became deluded and could not grasp even His plain words. He promptly set off to the place of the swayamvar।
भावार्थ:
सभी राजा अपने समाज सहित सज-धजकर अपने-अपने आसनों पर बैठे। मुनि सोच रहे थे—मेरा रूप बहुत सुंदर है, कन्या मुझे छोड़ किसी और को नहीं वरेगी।
English Translation:
All kings, finely dressed and surrounded by their courts, took their seats. The Sage thought to himself—“I am so handsome, the princess will not even consider anyone else।”
भावार्थ:
कृपानिधान भगवान ने मुनि के हित के लिए उन्हें ऐसा कुरूप रूप दे दिया जिसका वर्णन संभव नहीं, पर यह लीला कोई समझ न सका। सबने उन्हें नारद ही जानकर सम्मान दिया।
English Translation:
Out of compassion for the Muni, the Lord made him so ugly it defies description. But no one recognized this divine play; all still honored him as Narad ji।
भावार्थ:
वहाँ शिवजी के दो गण भी थे। वे सब भेद जानते थे और ब्राह्मण का वेष बनाकर सारी लीला देखते-फिरते थे। वे भी बड़े कौतुकी थे।
English Translation:
Two attendants of Lord Shiva, who knew the entire divine secret, wandered around in Brahmin disguises, delightfully observing the divine play.
भावार्थ:
नारदजी अपने रूप के गर्व में उस सभा में जाकर बैठे। वहीँ शिवजी के दोनों गण भी ब्राह्मण का वेष धारण कर बैठ गए, किसी को उनकी पहचान नहीं हुई।
English Translation:
Sage Narad, filled with pride in his beauty, went and sat in the gathering. The two attendants of Lord Shiv also sat there in Brahmin attire, unnoticed by all.
भावार्थ:
वे व्यंग्यपूर्वक नारदजी को सुनाकर कहने लगे- भगवान ने इनको बहुत सुंदरता दी है। राजकुमारी इनकी छबि देखकर रीझेगी और इन्हीं को (हरि रूप में) वर लेगी।
English Translation:
They taunted Narad ji sarcastically, “The Lord has blessed him with great beauty. Surely, the princess will be enchanted by him and choose him, believing he is a special incarnation of Hari.”
भावार्थ:
मुनि मोह में फँस गए थे, उनका मन माया के वश था। शिवगण सच्चाई जानकर हँस रहे थे। मुनि उनकी टेढ़ी-मेढ़ी बातों को सुन तो रहे थे, परन्तु भ्रमित बुद्धि से उनका अर्थ नहीं समझ पाए।
English Translation:
Sage Narad, blinded by delusion, had lost self-control. Shiv’s attendants laughed knowingly. Though he heard their twisted words, he could not grasp their true meaning, thinking they praised him.
भावार्थ:
वह अद्भुत लीला किसी ने न देखी, केवल राजकुमारी ने नारदजी का असली रूप देखा — भयंकर शरीर और बंदर जैसा मुख। यह देखकर वह क्रोधित हो गई।
English Translation:
No one else saw the strange transformation, except the princess. She saw Narad’s terrifying body and monkey-like face. Instantly, anger arose in her heart.
भावार्थ:
फिर राजकुमारी सखियों के साथ इस प्रकार चली जैसे कोई राजहंसिनी चल रही हो। वह अपने कमल जैसे हाथों में जयमाला लिए हुए राजाओं को देखने लगी।
English Translation:
With her companions, the princess walked gracefully like a royal swan. Holding a garland in her lotus-like hands, she began inspecting all the kings present.
भावार्थ:
जहाँ अभिमान से फूले नारद बैठे थे, राजकुमारी ने उधर देखा तक नहीं। बार-बार नारदजी उचकते-छटपटाते रहे और शिवगण उनकी दशा देखकर मुस्कराते रहे।
English Translation:
Where Narad sat, bloated with pride, the princess didn’t even glance. As Narad kept twitching anxiously, Shiv’s attendants watched and smiled.
भावार्थ:
कृपालु भगवान स्वयं राजा का रूप धारण कर वहाँ पहुँचे। राजकुमारी ने प्रसन्न होकर उन्हें जयमाला पहनाई और लक्ष्मीनिवास भगवान वधू को साथ लेकर चल दिए। बाकी राजा निराश रह गए।
English Translation:
The compassionate Lord arrived disguised as a king. Joyfully, the princess garlanded Him. The Lord of Lakshmi departed with the bride, leaving all other kings disheartened.
भावार्थ:
मोहवश मुनि की बुद्धि जाती रही और वे अत्यंत व्याकुल हो उठे, जैसे मणि हाथ से फिसलकर गिर जाए। शिवगण हँसकर बोले- ‘जाकर अपना मुख आइने में देखो!’
English Translation:
Overcome by delusion, the Sage lost his intellect and grew frantic, as if a gem had slipped from his grasp. Shiv’s attendants laughed and said, “Go and look at your face in the mirror!”
भावार्थ:
ऐसा कहकर दोनों गण डर से भाग गए। नारदजी ने पानी में अपना मुख देखा। भयंकर रूप देखकर उनका क्रोध भड़क उठा और उन्होंने शिवगणों को कठोर शाप दिया।
English Translation:
Saying this, the two attendants fled in fear. Narad looked at his reflection in the water. Seeing his monstrous form, fury engulfed him, and he cursed the Shivgans severely.
भावार्थ:
नारद बोले- हे कपटी और पापी! तुम दोनों जाकर राक्षस हो जाओ। तुमने मेरी हँसी उड़ाई है, अब उसका फल भोगो। फिर कभी किसी मुनि पर हँसना नहीं।
English Translation:
Narad cursed, “O deceitful and sinful ones, go become demons! You mocked me; now bear the consequences. Never again laugh at any sage!”
भावार्थ:
फिर नारदजी ने जल में अपना असली रूप देखा, लेकिन उन्हें संतोष नहीं हुआ। होठ फड़क रहे थे, मन में क्रोध था। वे तुरंत भगवान विष्णु के पास चल दिए।
English Translation:
Though he regained his real form in the water, Narad’s heart found no peace. His lips trembled in fury, and he rushed straight to Lord Vishnu.
भावार्थ:
(नारद सोचते गए-) अब जाकर या तो शाप दूँगा या मर जाऊँगा। भगवान ने मेरी हँसी कराई है। तभी मार्ग में उन्हें भगवान विष्णु मिल गए, साथ में लक्ष्मी और वही राजकुमारी भी थीं।
English Translation:
Narad thought, “I shall either curse Him or end my life! He humiliated me before the world.” Midway, he encountered Lord Vishnu with Goddess Lakshmi and the same princess.
भावार्थ:
देवताओं के स्वामी भगवान मधुर वाणी से बोले- हे मुनि! कहाँ इस तरह व्याकुल होकर जा रहे हो? ये वचन सुनते ही मुनि को अत्यंत क्रोध आया। माया के वश होने के कारण उनके मन में कोई समझ नहीं रही।
English Translation:
Lord of the gods sweetly asked, “O Sage, why are you so troubled?” But hearing these words, Narad’s fury intensified. Enslaved by Maya, his mind could no longer comprehend reason.
भावार्थ:
नारद बोले- तुम दूसरों की संपत्ति देख नहीं सकते। तुम्हारे अंदर विशेष रूप से ईर्ष्या और कपट है। समुद्र मंथन के समय तुमने रुद्र को बावला बना दिया और देवताओं से विष पिलवाया।
English Translation:
Narad said, “You cannot stand seeing others flourish! You are filled with envy and deceit. During the ocean churning, you made Rudra lose his senses and forced the gods to drink poison.”
भावार्थ:
असुरों को मदिरा और शिवजी को विष देकर तुमने स्वयं लक्ष्मी और सुंदर (कौस्तुभ) मणि ले ली। तुम बड़े धोखेबाज और मतलबी हो। सदा कपट का व्यवहार करते हो।
English Translation:
You offered wine to the demons, gave poison to Lord Shankar, and kept Goddess Lakshmi and the Kaustuba jewel for yourself. You are selfish, cunning, and your actions are always deceitful.
भावार्थ:
तुम परम स्वतंत्र हो, सिर पर तो कोई है नहीं, इससे जब जो मन को भाता है, (स्वच्छन्दता से) वही करते हो। भले को बुरा और बुरे को भला कर देते हो। हृदय में हर्ष-विषाद कुछ भी नहीं लाते।
English Translation:
You are entirely independent, answer to no one, and act according to Your own will. You turn the good into bad and the bad into good, yet neither joy nor sorrow dwells in Your heart.
भावार्थ:
सबको ठग-ठगकर परक गए हो और अत्यन्त निडर हो गए हो, इसी से (ठगने के काम में) मन में सदा उत्साह रहता है। शुभ-अशुभ कर्म तुम्हें बाधा नहीं देते। अब तक तुम को किसी ने ठीक नहीं किया था।
English Translation:
Deceiving others has made you a master of this art. You are fearless, and Your heart is always filled with excitement. Neither good nor bad deeds affect You, and no one has been able to restrain You till now.
भावार्थ:
अबकी तुमने अच्छे घर बैना दिया है (मेरे जैसे जबर्दस्त आदमी से छेड़खानी की है।) अतः अपने किए का फल अवश्य पाओगे। जिस शरीर को धारण करके तुमने मुझे ठगा है, तुम भी वही शरीर धारण करो, यह मेरा शाप है।
English Translation:
Now that You have knocked on the door of the right person (a strong one like me), You will face the consequences of Your actions. The very form You took to trick me shall now be Yours in an Avatar—this is my curse.
भावार्थ:
तुमने हमारा रूप बंदर का सा बना दिया था, इससे बंदर ही तुम्हारी सहायता करेंगे। (मैं जिस स्त्री को चाहता था, उससे मेरा वियोग कराकर) तुमने मेरा बड़ा अहित किया है, इससे तुम भी स्त्री के वियोग में दुःखी होंगे।
English Translation:
You gave me the form of a monkey, and now monkeys will come to Your aid. You inflicted deep pain upon me (by separating me from the princess), so You too shall endure the agony of separation from Your wife.
भावार्थ:
शाप को सिर पर चढ़ाकर, हृदय में हर्षित होते हुए प्रभु ने नारदजी से बहुत विनती की और कृपानिधान भगवान ने अपनी माया की प्रबलता खींच ली।
English Translation:
Accepting the curse with joy in His heart, the Lord humbly pleaded in various ways. Then, the ocean of mercy withdrew the powerful effect of His illusory energy.
भावार्थ:
जब भगवान ने अपनी माया को हटा लिया, तब वहाँ न लक्ष्मी ही रह गईं, न राजकुमारी ही। तब मुनि ने अत्यन्त भयभीत होकर श्री हरि के चरण पकड़ लिए और कहा- हे शरणागत के दुःखों को हरने वाले! मेरी रक्षा कीजिए।
English Translation:
When Lord Hari withdrew the effect of His illusory energy, neither Lakshmi ji nor the Princess remained. The Sage, now overcome with fear, fell at Lord Hari’s feet and pleaded, “O’ Lord, You remove the sorrows of those who surrender at Your lotus feet, please save me!”
भावार्थ:
हे कृपालु! मेरा शाप मिथ्या हो जाए। तब दीनों पर दया करने वाले भगवान ने कहा कि यह सब मेरी ही इच्छा (से हुआ) है। मुनि ने कहा- मैंने आप को अनेक खोटे वचन कहे हैं। मेरे पाप कैसे मिटेंगे?
English Translation:
“O’ Merciful One, may my curse prove false,” the Sage pleaded. The compassionate Lord replied, “This all was according to my own will.” The Muni then said, “I have spoken many harsh words, how will my sins be absolved?”
भावार्थ:
(भगवान ने कहा-) जाकर शंकरजी के शतनाम का जप करो, इससे हृदय में तुरंत शांति होगी। शिवजी के समान मुझे कोई प्रिय नहीं है, इस विश्वास को भूलकर भी न छोड़ना।
English Translation:
The Lord said, “Go and chant the hundred names of Lord Shankar, and your heart will be at peace instantly. No one is as dear to me as Lord Shiv; never let go of this belief, not even by mistake.”
भावार्थ:
हे मुनि! पुरारि (शिवजी) जिस पर कृपा नहीं करते, वह मेरी भक्ति नहीं पाता। हृदय में ऐसा निश्चय करके जाकर पृथ्वी पर विचरो। अब मेरी माया तुम्हारे निकट नहीं आएगी।
English Translation:
“O’ Sage, one who does not receive the grace of Purari (Lord Shiv) can never attain my devotion. Keep this in mind as you wander the Earth. From now on, my illusory energy will never affect you.”
भावार्थ:
बहुत प्रकार से मुनि को समझा-बुझाकर (ढाँढस देकर) तब प्रभु अंतर्द्धान हो गए और नारदजी श्री रामचन्द्रजी के गुणों का गान करते हुए सत्य लोक (ब्रह्मलोक) को चले।
English Translation:
After reassuring the Muni in various ways, the Lord gently withdrew from Narad’s sight. Filled with devotion, Narad ji then journeyed to Satyalok (the abode of Brahma ji), singing the glories of Lord Ram.
भावार्थ:
शिवजी के गणों ने जब मुनि को मोहरहित और मन में बहुत प्रसन्न होकर मार्ग में जाते हुए देखा तब वे अत्यन्त भयभीत होकर नारदजी के पास आए और उनके चरण पकड़कर दीन वचन बोले।

भावार्थ:
तुम दोनों जाकर राक्षस होओ, तुम्हें महान ऐश्वर्य, तेज और बल की प्राप्ति हो। तुम अपनी भुजाओं के बल से जब सारे विश्व को जीत लोगे, तब भगवान विष्णु मनुष्य का शरीर धारण करेंगे।
English Translation:
“Both of you shall go and be born as demons, endowed with immense grandeur, fame, and strength. When you conquer the entire world through the might of your arms, Lord Vishnu will descend in a human form.”
भावार्थ:
युद्ध में श्री हरि के हाथ से तुम्हारी मृत्यु होगी, जिससे तुम मुक्त हो जाओगे और फिर संसार में जन्म नहीं लोगे। वे दोनों मुनि के चरणों में सिर नवाकर चले और समय पाकर राक्षस हुए।
English Translation:
“Dying at the hands of Lord Hari in battle, you will attain liberation and never return to this world.” Hearing this, both bowed at the Sage’s feet and departed. In due time, they were born as mighty demons.
