भावार्थ:
शिवजी ने कहा—तुमने बात तो अच्छी कही, यह मेरे मन को भी पसंद आई, पर उन्होंने न्योता नहीं भेजा, यह अनुचित है। दक्ष ने अपनी सब लड़कियों को बुलाया है, किन्तु हमारे बैर के कारण उन्होंने तुमको भी भुला दिया।
English Translation:
Lord Shiv replied, “Your suggestion is wise and dear to my heart. However, it would be improper to go, as we have not been invited. Daksh has welcomed all his other daughters, but due to his hostility towards me, he has excluded you as well.”
भावार्थ:
एक बार ब्रह्मा की सभा में हमसे अप्रसन्न हो गए थे, उसी से वे अब भी हमारा अपमान करते हैं। हे भवानी! जो तुम बिना बुलाए जाओगी तो न शील-स्नेह ही रहेगा और न मान-मर्यादा ही रहेगी।
English Translation:
“Once, during an assembly of Lord Brahma, he grew displeased with me, and since then, he continues to insult me to this day. O’ Bhawani, if you attend uninvited, you will forfeit your honour and affection, and no one will show you respect.”
भावार्थ:
यद्यपि इसमें संदेह नहीं कि मित्र, स्वामी, पिता और गुरु के घर बिना बुलाए भी जाना चाहिए, तो भी जहाँ कोई विरोध मानता हो, उसके घर जाने से कल्याण नहीं होता।
English Translation:
“Even though it is true that one may visit a friend’s, master’s, father’s, or teacher’s home without an invitation, going to a place where hostility exists cannot lead to any good.”
भावार्थ:
शिवजी ने बहुत प्रकार से समझाया, पर होनहारवश सती के हृदय में बोध नहीं हुआ। फिर शिवजी ने कहा कि यदि बिना बुलाए जाओगी, तो हमारी समझ में अच्छी बात न होगी।
English Translation:
Lord Shambhu tried to reason with her in many ways, but fate clouded her heart, preventing understanding. Finally, Lord Shiv said, “If you go without being invited, it will not be considered a right decision in my view.”
भावार्थ:
शिवजी ने बहुत प्रकार से कहकर देख लिया, किन्तु जब सती किसी प्रकार भी नहीं रुकीं, तब त्रिपुरारि महादेवजी ने अपने मुख्य गणों को साथ देकर उनको बिदा कर दिया।
English Translation:
Lord Har made several attempts and explained in many ways, but when Sati ji, daughter of Daksh, refused to stay back, Lord Tripurari assigned his chief attendants to accompany her and bid her farewell.
भावार्थ:
भवानी जब पिता (दक्ष) के घर पहुँची, तब दक्ष के डर के मारे किसी ने उनकी आवभगत नहीं की, केवल एक माता भले ही आदर से मिली। बहिनें बहुत मुस्कुराती हुई मिलीं।
English Translation:
When Goddess Bhawani (Sati ji) arrived at her father’s home, no one greeted her out of fear of Daksh. Only her mother received her warmly, while her sisters met her with mocking smiles.
भावार्थ:
दक्ष ने तो उनकी कुछ कुशल तक नहीं पूछी, सतीजी को देखकर उलटे उनके सारे अंग जल उठे। तब सती ने जाकर यज्ञ देखा तो वहाँ कहीं शिवजी का भाग दिखाई नहीं दिया।
English Translation:
Daksh did not even inquire about her well-being; instead, anger surged within him upon seeing her. Sati ji then went to observe the yajna but could not find a single offering dedicated to Lord Shambhu.
भावार्थ:
तब शिवजी ने जो कहा था, वह उनकी समझ में आया। स्वामी का अपमान समझकर सती का हृदय जल उठा। पिछला (पति परित्याग का) दुःख उनके हृदय में उतना नहीं व्यापा था, जितना महान् दुःख इस समय (पति अपमान के कारण) हुआ।
English Translation:
At that moment, she recalled Lord Shankar’s words. Realizing the insult to her Lord, her heart burned with grief. The sorrow she had previously felt was nothing compared to the deep pain she now felt from the insult to her beloved.
भावार्थ:
यद्यपि जगत में अनेक प्रकार के दारुण दुःख हैं, तथापि, जाति अपमान सबसे बढ़कर कठिन है। यह समझकर सतीजी को बड़ा क्रोध हो आया। माता ने उन्हें बहुत प्रकार से समझाया-बुझाया।
English Translation:
Though the world is full of various agonies, the humiliation of one’s lineage is the hardest to bear. Realizing this, Sati ji became furious. Her mother tried in many ways to calm her.
भावार्थ:
परन्तु उनसे शिवजी का अपमान सहा नहीं गया, इससे उनके हृदय में कुछ भी प्रबोध नहीं हुआ। तब वे सारी सभा को हठपूर्वक डाँटकर क्रोधभरे वचन बोलीं।
English Translation:
Sati ji could not endure the insult to Lord Shiv, and her heart found no peace. Overcome with rage, she addressed the entire assembly with stern and angry words.
भावार्थ:
हे सभासदों और सब मुनीश्वरो! सुनो। जिन लोगों ने यहाँ शिवजी की निंदा की या सुनी है, उन सबको उसका फल तुरंत ही मिलेगा और मेरे पिता दक्ष भी भलीभाँति पछताएँगे।
English Translation:
“Listen, O assembled sages and courtiers! Those who have spoken or heard slander against Lord Shankar shall immediately suffer its consequences, and my father Daksh will deeply regret his actions.”
भावार्थ:
जहाँ संत, शिवजी और लक्ष्मीपति श्री विष्णु भगवान की निंदा सुनी जाए, वहाँ ऐसी मर्यादा है कि यदि अपना वश चले तो उस (निंदा करने वाले) की जीभ काट लें और नहीं तो कान मूँदकर वहाँ से भाग जाएँ।
English Translation:
“Wherever slander of saints, Lord Shambhu, or Lord Vishnu occurs, the tradition is to cut off the tongue of the blasphemer if one has the power, or else to shut one’s ears and leave the place at once.”
भावार्थ:
त्रिपुर दैत्य को मारने वाले भगवान महेश्वर सम्पूर्ण जगत की आत्मा हैं, वे जगत्पिता और सबका हित करने वाले हैं। मेरा मंदबुद्धि पिता उनकी निंदा करता है और मेरा यह शरीर दक्ष ही के वीर्य से उत्पन्न है।
English Translation:
“Lord Mahesh, destroyer of the demon Tripur, is the soul of the entire universe, the creator and well-wisher of all. Yet, my father Daksh, blinded by ignorance, has dared to insult Him. This body of mine, unfortunately, originates from Daksh’s seed.”
भावार्थ:
इसलिए चन्द्रमा को ललाट पर धारण करने वाले वृषकेतु शिवजी को हृदय में धारण करके मैं इस शरीर को तुरंत ही त्याग दूँगी। ऐसा कहकर सतीजी ने योगाग्नि में अपना शरीर भस्म कर डाला। सारी यज्ञशाला में हाहाकार मच गया।
English Translation:
“Therefore, meditating upon Lord Shiv, who bears the crescent moon and the bull’s emblem, I shall now renounce this body.” Saying so, Sati ji burned Her body in yogic fire. Chaos spread through the entire yajna hall.
भावार्थ:
सती का मरण सुनकर शिवजी के गण यज्ञ विध्वंस करने लगे। यज्ञ विध्वंस होते देखकर मुनीश्वर भृगुजी ने उसकी रक्षा की।
English Translation:
Upon hearing of Sati ji’s demise, Lord Shiv’s attendants began to destroy the yajna. Witnessing this destruction, the great Sage Bhrigu rushed to protect it.
