• चले राम लछिमन मुनि संगा। गए जहाँ जग पावनि गंगा॥
  गाधिसूनु सब कथा सुनाई। जेहि प्रकार सुरसरि महि आई॥1॥

भावार्थ:
श्री रामजी और लक्ष्मणजी मुनि के साथ चले। वे वहाँ गए, जहाँ जगत को पवित्र करने वाली गंगाजी थीं। महाराज गाधि के पुत्र विश्वामित्रजी ने वह सब कथा कह सुनाई जिस प्रकार देवनदी गंगाजी पृथ्वी पर आई थीं॥1॥

English Translation:
Shri Ram and Shri Lakshman accompanied the Sage to the banks of the sacred Ganga, the river that purifies the entire Universe. Rishi Vishwamitra, the son of Gaadhi, then recounted the divine legend of how the celestial river Ganga descended to Earth.

• तब प्रभु रिषिन्ह समेत नहाए। बिबिध दान महिदेवन्हि पाए॥
  हरषि चले मुनि बृंद सहाया। बेगि बिदेह नगर निअराया॥2॥

भावार्थ:
तब प्रभु ने ऋषियों सहित (गंगाजी में) स्नान किया। ब्राह्मणों ने भाँति-भाँति के दान पाए। फिर मुनिवृन्द के साथ वे प्रसन्न होकर चले और शीघ्र ही जनकपुर के निकट पहुँच गए॥2॥

English Translation:
The Lord, along with groups of Rishis, bathed in the sacred waters of the river Ganga, while the Brahmins received various gifts. Thereafter, the Lord and the assembly of saints departed joyfully. Before long, they arrived near the Kingdom of Videh.

• पुर रम्यता राम जब देखी। हरषे अनुज समेत बिसेषी॥
  बापीं कूप सरित सर नाना। सलिल सुधासम मनि सोपाना॥3॥

भावार्थ:
श्री रामजी ने जब जनकपुर की शोभा देखी, तब वे छोटे भाई लक्ष्मण सहित अत्यन्त हर्षित हुए। वहाँ अनेकों बावलियाँ, कुएँ, नदी और तालाब हैं, जिनमें अमृत के समान जल है और मणियों की सीढ़ियाँ (बनी हुई) हैं॥3॥

English Translation:
As Lord Ram beheld the enchanting beauty of Janakpuri, both He and His younger Brother were filled with immense joy. The city was adorned with numerous wells, rivers, and lakes brimming with nectar-like water. The steps leading to the banks and wells were studded with radiant jewels.

• गुंजत मंजु मत्त रस भृंगा। कूजत कल बहुबरन बिहंगा॥
  बरन बरन बिकसे बनजाता। त्रिबिध समीर सदा सुखदाता॥4॥

भावार्थ:
मकरंद रस से मतवाले होकर भौंरे सुंदर गुंजार कर रहे हैं। रंग-बिरंगे (बहुत से) पक्षी मधुर शब्द कर रहे हैं। रंग-रंग के कमल खिले हैं। सदा सुख देने वाला मंद, शीतल, सुगंध पवन बह रहा है॥4॥

English Translation:
Bumblebees, intoxicated by nectar, hummed melodiously, while vibrant birds filled the air with their sweet chirping. Lotuses of various hues bloomed gracefully, and a delightful breeze—cool, calm, and fragrant—constantly flowed, bringing joy to all.

• सुमन बाटिका बाग बन बिपुल बिहंग निवास।
  फूलत फलत सुपल्लवत सोहत पुर चहुँ पास॥212॥

भावार्थ:
पुष्प वाटिका (फुलवारी), बाग और वन, जिनमें बहुत से पक्षियों का निवास है, फूलते, फलते और सुंदर पत्तों से लदे हुए नगर के चारों ओर सुशोभित हैं॥212॥

English Translation:
All around the city bloomed lush floral gardens, orchards, and forests filled with birds of various kinds. These places flourished with vibrant flowers, abundant fruits, and lush foliage, beautifying every direction of the kingdom.

• बनइ न बरनत नगर निकाई। जहाँ जाइ मन तहँइँ लोभाई॥
  चारु बजारु बिचित्र अँबारी। मनिमय बिधि जनु स्वकर सँवारी॥1॥

भावार्थ:
नगर की सुंदरता का वर्णन करना संभव नहीं। मन जहाँ जाता है, वहीं मोहित हो जाता है। सुंदर बाजारों में विचित्र और मनोहर छज्जे हैं, जो ऐसे प्रतीत होते हैं मानो स्वयं ब्रह्मा ने उन्हें अपने हाथों से सजाया हो॥1॥

English Translation:
The city’s beauty was beyond description, captivating the heart at every glance. Magnificent marketplaces and exquisite balconies adorned with dazzling gems stood as if crafted by Lord Brahma Himself.

• धनिक बनिक बर धनद समाना। बैठे सकल बस्तु लै नाना।
  चौहट सुंदर गलीं सुहाई। संतत रहहिं सुगंध सिंचाई॥2॥

भावार्थ:
कुबेर के समान धनी श्रेष्ठ व्यापारी सब प्रकार की वस्तुएँ लेकर दुकानों में बैठे हैं। सुंदर चौराहे और मोहक गलियाँ सदा सुगंध से सिंचित रहती हैं॥2॥

English Translation:
Exceptionally wealthy merchants, resembling the God of Wealth, Kuber, sat in their shops surrounded by diverse goods. The city’s elegant intersections and charming lanes were continually sprinkled with fragrant water.

• मंगलमय मंदिर सब केरें। चित्रित जनु रतिनाथ चितेरें॥
  पुर नर नारि सुभग सुचि संता। धरमसील ग्यानी गुनवंता॥3॥

भावार्थ:
सभी के घर मंगलमय हैं, जिन पर ऐसे चित्र बने हैं मानो स्वयं कामदेव (रतिनाथ) ने उन्हें अंकित किया हो। नगर के सभी स्त्री-पुरुष सुंदर, पवित्र, धर्मात्मा, ज्ञानी और सद्गुणों से युक्त हैं॥3॥

English Translation:
Every home was auspicious, adorned with murals that looked as if they had been painted by Kaamdev, the God of Love. The people—men and women—were not only beautiful, but virtuous, knowledgeable, and noble.

• अति अनूप जहँ जनक निवासू। बिथकहिं बिबुध बिलोकि बिलासू॥
  होत चकित चित कोट बिलोकी। सकल भुवन सोभा जनु रोकी॥4॥

भावार्थ:
जनकजी का अनुपम महल देखकर देवता भी चकित रह जाते हैं। उसके प्राचीर को देखकर चित्त स्तब्ध हो जाता है, मानो उसने सभी लोकों की शोभा को अपने भीतर रोक लिया हो॥4॥

English Translation:
King Janak’s palace stood in unmatched grandeur, so splendid that even the gods were struck with wonder. The sight of its grand enclosure seemed as though it had seized the glory of the entire universe within itself.

• धवल धाम मनि पुरट पट सुघटित नाना भाँति।
  सिय निवास सुंदर सदन सोभा किमि कहि जाति॥213॥

भावार्थ:
उज्जवल महलों में मनियों से युक्त अनेक प्रकार के सजे हुए सुनहरे परदे लगे हैं। सीता जी के निवास का सौंदर्य वाणी से कहने योग्य नहीं है॥213॥

English Translation:
Bright white palaces shimmered with jewel-studded golden curtains of intricate design. The magnificent palace of Sita Ji was so breathtaking that words could not do justice to its divine charm.

• सुभग द्वार सब कुलिस कपाटा। भूप भीर नट मागध भाटा॥
  बनी बिसाल बाजि गज साला। हय गय रख संकुल सब काला॥1॥

भावार्थ:
सभी राजद्वार सुंदर हैं और वज्र जैसे मजबूत फाटकों से युक्त हैं। वहाँ राजाओं, नटों, मागधों और भाटों की भीड़ लगी रहती है। विशाल अस्तबल और हाथीशालाएँ सदा घोड़ों, हाथियों और रथों से भरी रहती हैं॥1॥

English Translation:
Every majestic doorway was reinforced with thunderbolt-strong gates. The premises bustled with kings, performers, storytellers, and bards. Vast stables and elephant sheds remained filled with noble steeds, mighty elephants, and grand chariots at all times.

• सूर सचिव सेनप बहुतेरे। नृपगृह सरिस सदन सब केरे॥
  पुर बाहेर सर सरित समीपा। उतरे जहँ तहँ बिपुल महीपा॥2॥

भावार्थ:
नगर में अनेक शूरवीर, मंत्री और सेनापति हैं, जिनके घर भी राजमहलों के समान हैं। नगर के बाहर, सरोवर और नदी के पास, बहुत से राजा डेरा डाले हुए हैं॥2॥

English Translation:
The city hosted many valiant warriors, wise ministers, and generals—each with residences rivaling royal palaces. Outside the city, near the lakes and rivers, countless kings had pitched their grand camps.

---

• देखि अनूप एक अँवराई। सब सुपास सब भाँति सुहाई।
  कौसिक कहेउ मोर मनु माना। इहाँ रहिअ रघुबीर सुजाना॥3॥

भावार्थ:
जब विश्राम करते हुए एक अनुपम आमों का बाग देखा गया, जो हर प्रकार से मनोहर और सुसज्ज था, तो विश्वामित्र जी ने कहा– हे रघुवीर! मेरा मन कहता है, यहीं ठहरें॥3॥

English Translation:
As they wandered, a charming mango grove came into view—delightful and complete in every way. Seeing it, Sage Vishwamitra joyfully said, “O noble Raghuveer! My heart desires to stay here.”

• भलेहिं नाथ कहि कृपानिकेता। उतरे तहँ मुनि बृंद समेता॥
  बिस्वामित्र महामुनि आए। समाचार मिथिलापति पाए॥4॥

भावार्थ:
कृपा के सागर श्रीराम ने ‘बहुत अच्छा, प्रभो!’ कहकर वहाँ मुनियों के साथ डेरा डाल दिया। जब जनकजी को यह समाचार मिला कि महामुनि विश्वामित्र पधारे हैं॥4॥

English Translation:
The ever-compassionate Lord Ram replied, “As you wish, my Lord!” and settled there with the sages. Meanwhile, the King of Mithila received the news that the great Sage Vishwamitra had arrived.

• संग सचिव सुचि भूरि भट भूसुर बर गुर ग्याति।
  चले मिलन मुनिनायकहि मुदित राउ एहि भाँति॥214॥

भावार्थ:
तब राजा जनक अपने पवित्र हृदयवाले मंत्री, बहुत से योद्धा, श्रेष्ठ ब्राह्मणों, गुरु शतानंद और अपनी जाति के श्रेष्ठ जनों को साथ लेकर प्रसन्नता पूर्वक मुनिनायक से मिलने चले॥214॥

English Translation:
Then King Janak joyfully set out to meet the sage, accompanied by his sincere ministers, great warriors, noble Brahmins, his revered Guru Shatanand, and esteemed members of his clan.
