भावार्थ:
तालाबों में कमल खिल रहे हैं, जल के पक्षी कूज रहे हैं, भौंरे गुंजार कर रहे हैं और बहुत रंगों के पक्षी और पशु वन में वैररहित होकर विहार कर रहे हैं॥249॥
English Translation:
Lotus flowers bloomed in the lakes, aquatic birds made sweet sounds and bumble bees buzzed. Many different coloured birds and animals roamed in the forest, free from animosities.
भावार्थ:
कोल, किरात और भील आदि वन के रहने वाले लोग पवित्र, सुंदर एवं अमृत के समान स्वादिष्ट मधु (शहद) को सुंदर दोने बनाकर और उनमें भर-भरकर तथा कंद, मूल, फल और अंकुर आदि की जूड़ियों (अँटियों) को॥1॥
English Translation:
The tribals, hunters and forest dwellers brought various roots, bulbs, fruits, seeds and sprouts bundled in beautiful cups made of leaves and filled with honey that was pure and delicious as nectar in taste.
भावार्थ:
सबको विनय और प्रणाम करके उन चीजों के अलग-अलग स्वाद, भेद (प्रकार), गुण और नाम बता-बताकर देते हैं। लोग उनका बहुत दाम देते हैं, पर वे नहीं लेते और लौटा देने में श्री रामजी की दुहाई देते हैं॥2॥
English Translation:
With utmost humility and respect, the foresters distributed these gifts to the people, acquainting them with their exquisite flavors, species, virtues, and names. However, when the people tried to offer payment in return, the foresters did not accept any money and pleaded with them to take it back, in the name of Shri Ram.
भावार्थ:
प्रेम में मग्न हुए वे कोमल वाणी से कहते हैं कि साधु लोग प्रेम को पहचानकर उसका सम्मान करते हैं (अर्थात आप साधु हैं, आप हमारे प्रेम को देखिए, दाम देकर या वस्तुएँ लौटाकर हमारे प्रेम का तिरस्कार न कीजिए)। आप तो पुण्यात्मा हैं, हम नीच निषाद हैं। श्री रामजी की कृपा से ही हमने आप लोगों के दर्शन पाए हैं॥3॥

They lovingly spoke sweet emotional words, “Saintly people should respect our true love (and not put a price to it). You all are blessed souls, while we are vile low-class beings. By the grace of Shri Ram, we have been blessed with your presence…
भावार्थ:
हम लोगों को आपके दर्शन बड़े ही दुर्लभ हैं, जैसे मरुभूमि के लिए गंगाजी की धारा दुर्लभ है! (देखिए) कृपालु श्री रामचन्द्रजी ने निषाद पर कैसी कृपा की है। जैसे राजा हैं वैसा ही उनके परिवार और प्रजा को भी होना चाहिए॥4॥
English Translation:
…It was almost impossible for us to see you, just like it is hard for the stream of celestial river Ganga to be visible in the desert land of Maru (Western Rajasthan and Sindh region). Just look at the immense honour Shri Ram has bestowed upon a tribal like Nishad (Guh). The way the King (Shri Ram) acts, all the family members and citizens should follow suit (you all should accept our hospitality, without any reciprocation)…
भावार्थ:
हृदय में ऐसा जानकर संकोच छोड़कर और हमारा प्रेम देखकर कृपा कीजिए और हमको कृतार्थ करने के लिए ही फल, तृण और अंकुर लीजिए॥250॥
English Translation:
…Knowing this in your hearts, renounce your apprehension and looking at our love, kindly shower your grace upon us. For our satisfaction, please accept these fruits, grass and saplings…
भावार्थ:
आप प्रिय पाहुने वन में पधारे हैं। आपकी सेवा करने के योग्य हमारे भाग्य नहीं हैं। हे स्वामी! हम आपको क्या देंगे? भीलों की मित्रता तो बस, ईंधन (लकड़ी) और पत्तों ही तक है॥1॥
English Translation:
…You are all our esteemed guests who have set foot in the forest, otherwise meeting with such great people like you was not in our destiny. O’ Masters, what is there that can we give you? Our friendship is just limited to providing wood (for fuel) and leaves…
भावार्थ:
हमारी तो यही बड़ी भारी सेवा है कि हम आपके कपड़े और बर्तन नहीं चुरा लेते। हम लोग जड़ जीव हैं, जीवों की हिंसा करने वाले हैं, कुटिल, कुचाली, कुबुद्धि और कुजाति हैं॥2॥
English Translation:
Our greatest service can be that we do not steal your clothes and utensils. We are cunning, deceitful, ill-minded, foolish and lowly people who harm others. Our minds are clouded with negative thoughts and we do not follow the path of righteousness prescribed by the Vedas…
भावार्थ:
हमारे दिन-रात पाप करते ही बीतते हैं। तो भी न तो हमारी कमर में कपड़ा है और न पेट ही भरते हैं। हममें स्वप्न में भी कभी धर्मबुद्धि कैसी? यह सब तो श्री रघुनाथजी के दर्शन का प्रभाव है॥3॥
English Translation:
…Our days and nights are spent in sinful pursuits and we lack proper clothing to cover our waists and food to satiate our hunger. How can we even dream of possessing a righteous mind? All this (goodness) is an effect of our eyes beholding the sight of Shri Raghunandan Himself…
भावार्थ:
जब से प्रभु के चरण कमल देखे, तब से हमारे दुःसह दुःख और दोष मिट गए। वनवासियों के वचन सुनकर अयोध्या के लोग प्रेम में भर गए और उनके भाग्य की सराहना करने लगे॥4॥
English Translation:
…Ever since we glanced at the lotus feet of the Lord, all our terrible sorrows and sins have disappeared.” Hearing their words, the people of Ayodhya felt delighted and started extolling their good fortune.
भावार्थ:
सब उनके भाग्य की सराहना करने लगे और प्रेम के वचन सुनाने लगे। उन लोगों के बोलने और मिलने का ढंग तथा श्री सीता-रामजी के चरणों में उनका प्रेम देखकर सब सुख पा रहे हैं। उन कोल-भीलों की वाणी सुनकर सभी नर-नारी अपने प्रेम का निरादर करते हैं (उसे धिक्कार देते हैं)। तुलसीदासजी कहते हैं कि यह रघुवंशमणि श्री रामचन्द्रजी की कृपा है कि लोहा नौका को अपने ऊपर लेकर तैर गया॥
English Translation:
People started to extol their good fortune and spoke affectionate words. Hearing their words and seeing their polite manners as well as their devotion to the divine feet of Sita ji and Ram ji, joy filled the hearts of all. Both men and women were humbled by the loving words of the forest dwellers and hunters and they felt that their own love was minuscule in comparison. Tulsidas ji says that it is the grace of the jewel of Raghu’s race that an iron block was able to float with a boat on top of it. (It’s fascinating to see how the people of Ayodhya, who had deep love for Lord Ram and possessed great virtues, are compared to a boat. Their unwavering devotion made them capable of guiding countless souls through the vast ocean of mundane existence, straight to the feet of Lord Ram. On the contrary, the forest dwellers, who came from the lowest strata of society and faced criticism due to their birth and behavior, were compared to a block of iron. It seemed impossible for them to even float, let alone carry any additional weight. However, through the grace of Lord Ram, these humble foresters astounded everyone with their simple devotion, making the impossible possible. It was as if a block of iron could float with a boat placed upon it.)
भावार्थ:
सब लोग दिनोंदिन परम आनंदित होते हुए वन में चारों ओर विचरते हैं। जैसे पहली वर्षा के जल से मेंढक और मोर मोटे हो जाते हैं (प्रसन्न होकर नाचते-कूदते हैं)॥251॥
English Translation:
Day after day everyone happily wandered around the forest and their agony vanished as they beheld Shri Ram’s divine appearance, just like the arrival of monsoon relieves the scorching summer heat and peacocks begin to gracefully dance and frogs plump up and hop around (after drinking the water of the first rainfall).
भावार्थ:
अयोध्यापुरी के पुरुष और स्त्री सभी प्रेम में अत्यन्त मग्न हो रहे हैं। उनके दिन पल के समान बीत जाते हैं। जितनी सासुएँ थीं, उतने ही वेष (रूप) बनाकर सीताजी सब सासुओं की आदरपूर्वक एक सी सेवा करती हैं॥1॥
English Translation:
Men and women of Ayodhya were deeply immersed in love, days and nights passed like a mere moment for them. Sita ji assumed as many forms (seven hundred) as She had mothers-in-law (seven hundred) and respectfully served them all equally.
भावार्थ:
श्री रामचन्द्रजी के सिवा इस भेद को और किसी ने नहीं जाना। सब मायाएँ (पराशक्ति महामाया) श्री सीताजी की माया में ही हैं। सीताजी ने सासुओं को सेवा से वश में कर लिया। उन्होंने सुख पाकर सीख और आशीर्वाद दिए॥2॥
English Translation:
No one except Shri Ram could understand this secret act of Sita ji (She is the Almighty Goddess and Lord Ram is the Supreme Lord). All the illusionary energies exist within Sita ji’s delusive power only. Sita ji won the hearts of Her mothers-in-law by her service. They were pleased by the performance of Her duties and they showered Her with blessings and wise advice.
भावार्थ:
सीताजी समेत दोनों भाइयों (श्री राम-लक्ष्मण) को सरल स्वभाव देखकर कुटिल रानी कैकेयी भरपेट पछताई। वह पृथ्वी तथा यमराज से याचना करती है, किन्तु धरती बीच (फटकर समा जाने के लिए रास्ता) नहीं देती और विधाता मौत नहीं देता॥3॥
English Translation:
Seeing Sita ji and the two simple-natured Brothers (Shri Ram and Lakshman ji), the cunning Queen (Kaikeyi) went through a lot of remorse. She pleaded to mother Earth and to the God of Death, Yamraj for her end. But neither did Earth swallow her up nor did God grant death to her.
भावार्थ:
लोक और वेद में प्रसिद्ध है और कवि (ज्ञानी) भी कहते हैं कि जो श्री रामजी से विमुख हैं, उन्हें नरक में भी ठौर नहीं मिलती। सबके मन में यह संदेह हो रहा था कि हे विधाता! श्री रामचन्द्रजी का अयोध्या जाना होगा या नहीं॥4॥
English Translation:
This fact is well-known in the world, it is also mentioned in the Vedas and the sages declare it too, that those who are hostile towards Shri Ram, cannot find any resting place, not even in hell. (Meanwhile) the doubt in everyone’s mind was, “Will Shri Ram return to Ayodhya or not?”
