भावार्थ:
अत्यन्त सुकुमार दोनों कुमारों को और सुकुमारी जानकी को रथ में चढ़ाकर, वन दिखलाकर चार दिन के बाद लौट आना।
English Translation:
Take the two extremely delicate princes and the daughter of Janak, the delicate princess Sita on your chariot, show them around the forest and bring them back after three or four days.
भावार्थ:
यदि धैर्यवान दोनों भाई न लौटें- क्योंकि श्री रघुनाथजी प्रण के सच्चे और दृढ़ता से नियम का पालन करने वाले हैं- तो तुम हाथ जोड़कर विनती करना कि हे प्रभो! जनककुमारी सीताजी को तो लौटा दीजिए।
English Translation:
If the two persistent brothers refuse to return—as the finest of the Raghus, Ram is true to His word and firm in His vow—then plead with Ram with joined palms and ask Him to at least send the princess of Mithila, Sita, back.
भावार्थ:
जब सीता वन को देखकर डरें, तब मौका पाकर मेरी यह सीख उनसे कहना कि तुम्हारे सास और ससुर ने ऐसा संदेश कहा है कि हे पुत्री! तुम लौट चलो, वन में बहुत क्लेश हैं।
English Translation:
When Sita gets frightened at the sight of the forest, then finding the right opportunity, tell her my advice: “Your mother-in-law and father-in-law have sent a message that, O daughter, return back as there are a lot of hardships in the forest.”
भावार्थ:
कभी पिता के घर, कभी ससुराल, जहाँ तुम्हारी इच्छा हो, वहीं रहना। इस प्रकार तुम बहुत से उपाय करना। यदि सीताजी लौट आईं तो मेरे प्राणों को सहारा हो जाएगा।
English Translation:
Sometimes stay at your father’s home, and sometimes at your in-laws’ home—wherever you feel comfortable. In this way, try all possible means. If Sita returns, that will be a support to my life.
भावार्थ:
नहीं तो अंत में मेरा मरण ही होगा। विधाता के विपरीत होने पर कुछ वश नहीं चलता। हा! राम, लक्ष्मण और सीता को लाकर दिखाओ। ऐसा कहकर राजा मूर्छित होकर पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़े।
English Translation:
Otherwise, all this will end with my death. When fate is adverse, nothing is possible. Saying these words, the King dropped unconscious on the ground after exclaiming, “Bring Ram, Lakshman and Sita and show them to me!”
भावार्थ:
सुमंत्रजी राजा की आज्ञा पाकर, सिर नवाकर और बहुत जल्दी रथ जुड़वाकर वहाँ गए, जहाँ नगर के बाहर सीताजी सहित दोनों भाई थे।
English Translation:
After receiving the King’s command, Sumantra bowed his head and quickly got the chariot ready and left for the outskirts of the city, where the two brothers along with Sita ji were present.
भावार्थ:
तब (वहाँ पहुँचकर) सुमंत्र ने राजा के वचन श्री रामचन्द्रजी को सुनाए और विनती करके उनको रथ पर चढ़ाया। सीताजी सहित दोनों भाई रथ पर चढ़कर हृदय में अयोध्या को सिर नवाकर चले।
English Translation:
Then Sumantra delivered the King’s message to Shri Ram, and with humble submission persuaded Him to mount the chariot. The two brothers along with Sita ji bowed to Ayodhya in their hearts and set out on their journey.
भावार्थ:
श्री रामचन्द्रजी को जाते हुए और अयोध्या को अनाथ (होते हुए) देखकर सब लोग व्याकुल होकर उनके साथ हो लिए। कृपा के समुद्र श्री रामजी उन्हें बहुत तरह से समझाते हैं, तो वे (अयोध्या की ओर) लौट जाते हैं, परन्तु प्रेमवश फिर लौट आते हैं।
English Translation:
Finding Ayodhya masterless with the departure of Shri Ram, all the people became overwhelmed with grief and followed the chariot (on foot). The ocean of mercy, Ram ji explained to them in many ways and sent them back to Ayodhya. But out of love, they returned again.
भावार्थ:
अयोध्यापुरी बड़ी डरावनी लग रही है, मानो अंधकारमयी कालरात्रि ही हो। नगर के नर-नारी भयानक जन्तुओं के समान एक-दूसरे को देखकर डर रहे हैं।
English Translation:
Ayodhya appeared very fearsome and dark, like a dreadful apocalyptic night. The men and women of Ayodhya looked like ghastly creatures and were frightened to see one another.
भावार्थ:
घर श्मशान, कुटुम्बी भूत-प्रेत और पुत्र, हितैषी और मित्र मानो यमराज के दूत हैं। बगीचों में वृक्ष और बेलें कुम्हला रही हैं। नदी और तालाब ऐसे भयानक लगते हैं कि उनकी ओर देखा भी नहीं जाता।
English Translation:
Homes looked like crematories and family members like ghosts. Children, well-wishers, and friends appeared like messengers of death. Trees and creepers in the gardens had withered, and rivers and lakes looked so terrifying that one couldn’t even glance at them.
भावार्थ:
करोड़ों घोड़े, हाथी, खेलने के लिए पाले हुए हिरन, नगर के (गाय, बैल, बकरी आदि) पशु, पपीहे, मोर, कोयल, चकवे, तोते, मैना, सारस, हंस और चकोर-
English Translation:
Millions of horses, elephants, pet deer, domestic animals of the city (like cows, oxen, goats), and birds like papihas, peacocks, cuckoos, chakvas, parrots, mynahs, cranes, swans, and partridges—
भावार्थ:
श्री रामजी के वियोग में सभी व्याकुल हुए जहाँ-तहाँ (ऐसे चुपचाप स्थिर होकर) खड़े हैं, मानो तसवीरों में लिखकर बनाए हुए हैं। नगर मानो फलों से परिपूर्ण बड़ा भारी सघन वन था। नगर निवासी सब स्त्री-पुरुष बहुत से पशु-पक्षी थे।
English Translation:
All stood still and quiet in distress due to their separation from Shri Ram. Standing motionless here and there, they appeared as if someone had drawn them in a painting. Ayodhya looked like an extensive and dense forest full of fruits, where all men and women represented the many animals and birds.
भावार्थ:
विधाता ने कैकेयी को भीलनी बनाया, जिसने दसों दिशाओं में दुःसह दावाग्नि (भयानक आग) लगा दी। श्री रामचन्द्रजी के विरह की इस अग्नि को लोग सह न सके। सब लोग व्याकुल होकर भाग चले।
English Translation:
Lord Brahma made Kaikeyi a huntress who set unbearable wildfires in all ten directions. Unable to endure the agony of separation from Shri Ram, everyone became frantic and fled.
भावार्थ:
सबने मन में विचार कर लिया कि श्री रामजी, लक्ष्मणजी और सीताजी के बिना सुख नहीं है। जहाँ श्री रामजी रहेंगे, वहीं सारा समाज रहेगा। श्री रामचन्द्रजी के बिना अयोध्या में हम लोगों का कुछ काम नहीं है।
English Translation:
Everyone resolved in their minds that there’s no happiness without Ram, Lakshman, and Sita. Wherever Ram is, the entire community will go. Without Raghuveer, we have no purpose in Ayodhya.
भावार्थ:
ऐसा विचार दृढ़ करके देवताओं को भी दुर्लभ सुखों से पूर्ण घरों को छोड़कर सब श्री रामचन्द्रजी के साथ चले पड़े। जिनको श्री रामजी के चरणकमल प्यारे हैं, उन्हें क्या कभी विषय भोग वश में कर सकते हैं।
English Translation:
With this firm resolve, they abandoned their comfortable homes—hard to attain even by the gods—and followed Shri Ram. Those who hold the lotus feet of Shri Ram dear can never fall under the sway of material pleasures.
भावार्थ:
बच्चों और बूढ़ों को घरों में छोड़कर सब लोग साथ हो लिए। पहले दिन श्री रघुनाथजी ने तमसा नदी के तीर पर निवास किया॥84॥
English Translation:
Leaving behind the children and elderly in their homes, everyone accompanied Shri Ram. Shri Raghunath made a halt to stay on the banks of the Tamsa river on the first day.
भावार्थ:
प्रजा को प्रेमवश देखकर श्री रघुनाथजी के दयालु हृदय में बड़ा दुःख हुआ। प्रभु श्री रघुनाथजी करुणामय हैं। पराई पीड़ा को वे तुरंत पा जाते हैं॥1॥
English Translation:
When Shri Raghunath saw the citizens of Ayodhya overwhelmed with emotion, his compassionate heart felt very sad. The Lord of the senses, Raghunath ji is extremely merciful and immediately despairs to see others in pain.
भावार्थ:
प्रेमयुक्त कोमल और सुंदर वचन कहकर श्री रामजी ने बहुत प्रकार से लोगों को समझाया और बहुतेरे धर्म संबंधी उपदेश दिए, परन्तु प्रेमवश लोग लौटाए लौटते नहीं॥2॥
English Translation:
Shri Ram spoke beautiful, soft and affectionate words and consoled the people in many ways. He preached from the Scriptures, giving lessons related to righteousness. But the people did not turn back because of their deep love for Him.
भावार्थ:
शील और स्नेह छोड़ा नहीं जाता। श्री रघुनाथजी असमंजस के अधीन हो गए। शोक और परिश्रम के मारे लोग सो गए और कुछ देवताओं की माया से भी उनकी बुद्धि मोहित हो गई॥3॥
English Translation:
The finest of Raghus, Shri Ram was not able to give up His natural amiability and affection, thus He was caught in a dilemma. Being distressed and fatigued, all the people then fell into a deep slumber, plus they were also under the illusionary power of the Demigods who had mesmerised their minds.
भावार्थ:
जब दो पहर बीत गई, तब श्री रामचन्द्रजी ने प्रेमपूर्वक मंत्री सुमंत्र से कहा- हे तात! रथ को इस प्रकार हाँकिए कि चिह्न न रहें। और किसी उपाय से बात नहीं बनेगी॥4॥
English Translation:
When six hours of the night had passed, Shri Ram lovingly spoke to the minister, Sumantra, “Dear Sir, please ride your chariot in such a way that it leaves no tracks behind. Otherwise there is no other way to resolve this situation.”
भावार्थ:
शंकरजी के चरणों में सिर नवाकर श्री रामजी, लक्ष्मणजी और सीताजी रथ पर सवार हुए। मंत्री ने तुरंत ही रथ को इधर-उधर खोज छिपाकर चला दिया॥85॥
English Translation:
Bowing at the feet of Lord Shankar, Shri Ram, Lakshman ji and Sita ji mounted the chariot and the minister quickly drove it haphazardly so that no one could figure out where it went.
भावार्थ:
सबेरा होते ही सब लोग जागे, तो बड़ा शोर मचा कि रघुनाथजी चले गए। कहीं रथ का खोज नहीं पाते, सब ‘हा राम! हा राम!’ पुकारते हुए चारों ओर दौड़ रहे हैं॥1॥
English Translation:
At the break of dawn, everyone woke up and they all exclaimed loudly, “Raghunath has left!” They could not find the chariot anywhere and ran around in all the four directions crying, “O’ Ram, O’ Ram”.
भावार्थ:
मानो समुद्र में जहाज डूब गया हो, जिससे व्यापारियों का समुदाय बहुत ही व्याकुल हो उठा हो। वे एक-दूसरे को उपदेश देते हैं कि श्री राम ने हमें क्लेश से बचाने के लिए छोड़ दिया है॥2॥
English Translation:
It seemed as if a ship had drowned in the ocean, which made the community of tradesmen extremely restless. They proclaimed to each other that Shri Ram had abandoned them thinking of how much they would struggle.
भावार्थ:
वे लोग अपनी निंदा करते हैं और मछलियों की सराहना करते हैं। (कहते हैं-) श्री राम के बिना जीवन धिक्कार है। विधाता ने यदि वियोग दिया तो मृत्यु क्यों नहीं दी!॥3॥
English Translation:
They condemned themselves and praised the fish. They said, “Our birth is a curse without Raghuveer. If God had to separate us from our beloved, why then did he not grant us death?”
भावार्थ:
इस प्रकार बहुत से प्रलाप करते हुए वे संताप से भरे अयोध्या लौटे। उस विषम वियोग की दशा का वर्णन नहीं किया जा सकता। अवधि की आशा से ही वे प्राणों को रखे थे॥4॥
English Translation:
In this way, wailing and crying, they returned to Ayodhya full of remorse. One cannot express their terrible pain of separation from Shri Ram. They all survived only on the hope of seeing Shri Ram at the end of His exile.
भावार्थ:
(सब) स्त्री-पुरुष श्री राम के दर्शन के लिए नियम और व्रत करने लगे और ऐसे दुःखी हो गए जैसे चकवा, चकवी और कमल सूर्य के बिना दीन हो जाते हैं॥86॥
English Translation:
For the sake of seeing Shri Ram, men and women started doing penance and kept fasts. They shrunk like the chakwi bird in the absence of the male chakwa bird or lotus flower without the Sun.
भावार्थ:
सीताजी और मंत्री सहित दोनों भाई श्रृंगवेरपुर पहुँचे। वहाँ गंगाजी को देखकर श्री रामजी रथ से उतर पड़े और बड़े हर्ष से उन्होंने दंडवत की॥1॥
English Translation:
Sita ji and the minister Sumantra along with the two Brothers reached Shringverpur. Seeing the celestial river Ganga, Shri Ram got down from the chariot and prostrated on the ground with great joy.
भावार्थ:
लक्ष्मणजी, सुमंत्र और सीताजी ने भी प्रणाम किया। श्री रामजी ने सबके साथ सुख पाया। गंगाजी समस्त आनंद-मंगलों की मूल हैं॥2॥
English Translation:
Shri Lakshman, Sumantra and Sita ji also bowed to Ganga ji. Shri Ram and everyone felt delighted. Ganga ji is the root of all happiness and auspiciousness.
भावार्थ:
कई कथा प्रसंग कहते हुए श्री राम गंगाजी की तरंगों को देखते हैं। उन्होंने मंत्री, अनुज और प्रिया को गंगा की महिमा सुनाई॥3॥
English Translation:
Recounting numerous tales, Shri Ram glanced at the waves of Ganga ji. Shri Ram narrated the glories of the divine river to the minister, His younger brother and His beloved.
भावार्थ:
स्नान करके मार्ग की थकावट मिट गई और पवित्र जल पीकर मन प्रसन्न हो गया। जिनका स्मरण करने से महान श्रम मिट जाता है, उनके श्रम की यह लीला लौकिक व्यवहार मात्र है॥4॥
English Translation:
They took bath in the river and got rid of all the fatigue. Upon drinking the holy water of Ganga ji, their hearts rejoiced. Just by meditating upon whom the fatigue of many births disappears, that Shri Ram showed ‘fatigue’—it was merely a worldly act.
