पर्वतों की गुफाएँ, खोह (दर्रे), नदियाँ, नद और नाले ऐसे अगम्य और गहरे हैं कि उनकी ओर देखा तक नहीं जाता। रीछ, बाघ, भेड़िये, सिंह और हाथी ऐसे (भयानक) शब्द करते हैं कि उन्हें सुनकर धीरज भाग जाता है॥4॥

स्वाभाविक ही हित चाहने वाले गुरु और स्वामी की सीख को जो सिर चढ़ाकर नहीं मानता, वह हृदय में भरपेट पछताता है और उसके हित की हानि अवश्य होती है॥63॥

Just as the body is lifeless without a soul, and a river is barren without water, in the same way, my Lord, a woman is without her husband. My beloved, in Your presence, I shall find all forms of happiness merely by beholding Your pure, autumnal moon-like face…

कन्द, मूल और फल ही अमृत के समान आहार होंगे और (वन के) पहाड़ ही अयोध्या के सैकड़ों राजमहलों के समान होंगे। क्षण-क्षण में प्रभु के चरण कमलों को देख-देखकर मैं ऐसी आनंदित रहूँगी जैसे दिन में चकवी रहती है॥2॥

The roots, bulbs, and fruits will become my nectar-like food, and the mountains will feel like hundreds of royal mansions of Ayodhya. As long as I can gaze upon the lotus feet of my Lord, I shall remain as joyful as a female chakwa bird is in the warmth of daylight…

हे नाथ! आपने वन के बहुत से दुःख और बहुत से भय, विषाद और सन्ताप कहे, परन्तु हे कृपानिधान! वे सब मिलकर भी प्रभु (आप) के वियोग (से होने वाले दुःख) के लवलेश के समान भी नहीं हो सकते॥3॥

O’ Lord, You have described the many hardships, fears, sorrows, and agonies of forest life, but all of these, when combined, are insignificant compared to the pain of being separated from You, O’ Mine of mercy…

ऐसा जी में जानकर, हे सुजान शिरोमणि! आप मुझे साथ ले लीजिए, यहाँ न छोड़िए। हे स्वामी! मैं अधिक क्या विनती करूँ? आप करुणामय हैं और सबके हृदय के अंदर की जानने वाले हैं॥4॥

Keeping this in Your heart, O’ Crest-jewel of the wise, take me with You and do not leave me behind. O’ Lord, in what other way can I plead with You? You are all-merciful and know the innermost feelings of every heart…

…I will wash Your feet while sitting beneath the shade of a tree and fan You with a heart full of joy. O’ Lord of my life, just seeing the drops of sweat glistening on Your soft bluish-hued body, I will forget all sorrow, there will be no room for despair…
भावार्थ:
समतल भूमि पर घास और पेड़ों के पत्ते बिछाकर यह दासी रातभर आपके चरण दबावेगी। बार-बार आपकी कोमल मूर्ति को देखकर मुझको गरम हवा भी न लगेगी॥3॥

…This humble maid will lay out grass and leaves upon the flat ground and gently massage Your feet day and night. As I gaze upon Your tender form again and again, even the scorching winds will feel cool to me and cause no harm…

प्रभु के साथ (रहते) मेरी ओर (आँख उठाकर) देखने वाला कौन है (अर्थात कोई नहीं देख सकता)! जैसे सिंह की स्त्री (सिंहनी) को खरगोश और सियार नहीं देख सकते। मैं सुकुमारी हूँ और नाथ वन के योग्य हैं? आपको तो तपस्या उचित है और मुझको विषय भोग?॥4॥
English Translation:
…Who would dare cast a glance at me when my Lord stands beside me, just as no rabbit or jackal dares face the lioness (wife of the lion)! I am delicate and unfit for the forest, while you are meant for the forest? I should remain behind in comfort and luxury, while You, my Lord, should endure hardships and perform penance?…
भावार्थ:
ऐसे कठोर वचन सुनकर भी जब मेरा हृदय न फटा तो, हे प्रभु! (मालूम होता है) ये पामर प्राण आपके वियोग का भीषण दुःख सहेंगे॥67॥
English Translation:
…If, upon hearing such harsh words, my heart did not shatter, then surely this sinful self is destined to endure the unbearable agony of separation from my Lord!”
भावार्थ:
ऐसा कहकर सीताजी बहुत ही व्याकुल हो गईं। वे वचन के वियोग को भी न सम्हाल सकीं। (अर्थात शरीर से वियोग की बात तो अलग रही, वचन से भी वियोग की बात सुनकर वे अत्यन्त विकल हो गईं।) उनकी यह दशा देखकर श्री रघुनाथजी ने अपने जी में जान लिया कि हठपूर्वक इन्हें यहाँ रखने से ये प्राणों को न रखेंगी॥1॥

Saying these words, Sita ji was overcome with grief, She could not bear even the mention of separation from Her Lord, let alone the reality of it. Seeing Her state, Shri Ram understood in His heart that if Sita ji were forcibly left behind, She would not survive.

तब कृपालु, सूर्यकुल के स्वामी श्री रामचन्द्रजी ने कहा कि सोच छोड़कर मेरे साथ वन को चलो। आज विषाद करने का अवसर नहीं है। तुरंत वनगमन की तैयारी करो॥2॥

Thus, the all-merciful Lord of the Solar clan, Shri Ram, said, “Let go of your sorrow and come with me to the forest. This is not a day for lamentation. Quickly gather the essential items needed for the journey.”

…O’ God, will my fortune ever turn so that I may once again behold this beautiful couple with my own eyes? O’ Son, when will that blessed day and hour come when Your mother is still alive to set eyes on Your Moon-like face again?…

हे तात! ‘वत्स’ कहकर, ‘लाल’ कहकर, ‘रघुपति’ कहकर, ‘रघुवर’ कहकर, मैं फिर कब तुम्हें बुलाकर हृदय से लगाऊँगी और हर्षित होकर तुम्हारे अंगों को देखूँगी!॥68॥

…O’ Son, when will I once again call You “my darling,” “my lovely child,” “Raghupati,” “Raghuveer”? And when will I be able to invite You near me, embrace You, and joyfully feast my eyes upon Your divine form?”

यह देखकर कि माता स्नेह के मारे अधीर हो गई हैं और इतनी अधिक व्याकुल हैं कि मुँह से वचन नहीं निकलता। श्री रामचन्द्रजी ने अनेक प्रकार से उन्हें समझाया। वह समय और स्नेह वर्णन नहीं किया जा सकता॥1॥

Seeing His mother deeply agitated and rendered speechless by overwhelming grief, Shri Ram gently reassured her in many ways. The depth and intensity of love and emotion in that moment were beyond the power of words to describe.

तब जानकीजी सास के पाँव लगीं और बोलीं- हे माता! सुनिए, मैं बड़ी ही अभागिनी हूँ। आपकी सेवा करने के समय दैव ने मुझे वनवास दे दिया। मेरा मनोरथ सफल न किया॥2॥
