भावार्थ:
(अयोध्या के राज्य की तो बात ही क्या है) ब्रह्मा, विष्णु और महादेव का पद पाकर भी भरत को राज्य का मद नहीं होने का! क्या कभी काँजी की बूँदों से क्षीरसमुद्र नष्ट हो सकता (फट सकता) है?
English Translation:
Bharat can never become intoxicated with kingly power even upon attaining the position of Lord Brahma, Lord Hari and Lord Har (Shiv ji). Can a few drops of Kaanji (sour drink) curdle the milky ocean (like Bharat ji who is an ocean of virtues)?
भावार्थ:
अन्धकार चाहे तरुण (मध्याह्न के) सूर्य को निगल जाए। आकाश चाहे बादलों में समाकर मिल जाए। गो के खुर इतने जल में अगस्त्यजी डूब जाएँ और पृथ्वी चाहे अपनी स्वाभाविक क्षमा (सहनशीलता) को छोड़ दे॥1॥
English Translation:
Darkness may devour the mid-day Sun or the infinite sky may get absorbed by the clouds or Sage Agastya (who had once swallowed the entire ocean in three sips from the palm of his hand) may drown in the water collected within a cow’s footprint or Earth may abandon her natural compassion...
भावार्थ:
मच्छर की फूँक से चाहे सुमेरु उड़ जाए, परन्तु हे भाई! भरत को राजमद कभी नहीं हो सकता। हे लक्ष्मण! मैं तुम्हारी शपथ और पिताजी की सौगंध खाकर कहता हूँ, भरत के समान पवित्र और उत्तम भाई संसार में नहीं है॥2॥
English Translation:
The mighty Meru mountain may be blown away by the puff of air discharged from a mosquito’s mouth but Bharat can never become intoxicated by kingly power. Lakshman, I swear upon you as well as upon our father that there is no brother as good and pure as Bharat...
भावार्थ:
हे तात! गुरु रूपी दूध और अवगुण रूपी जल को मिलाकर विधाता इस दृश्य प्रपंच (जगत्) को रचता है, परन्तु भरत ने सूर्यवंश रूपी तालाब में हंस रूप जन्म लेकर गुण और दोष का विभाग कर दिया (दोनों को अलग-अलग कर दिया)॥3॥
English Translation:
Brother, the Almighty creates this world as a mixture made from the pure milk of goodness and the impure water of badness. But Bharat is like a swan born in the lake of the Solar dynasty and he has (successfully) separated the good and evil...
भावार्थ:
गुणरूपी दूध को ग्रहण कर और अवगुण रूपी जल को त्यागकर भरत ने अपने यश से जगत् में उजियाला कर दिया है। भरतजी के गुण, शील और स्वभाव को कहते-कहते श्री रघुनाथजी प्रेमसमुद्र में मग्न हो गए॥4॥
English Translation:
Like a swan, Bharat ji has only accepted the milk of goodness and discarded the water of sins, thereby illuminating the entire world by his glory. In this manner, extolling Bharat ji’s virtues, amiability and temperament, Shri Ram became engrossed in the ocean of love.
भावार्थ:
श्री रामचंद्रजी की वाणी सुनकर और भरतजी पर उनका प्रेम देखकर समस्त देवता उनकी सराहना करने लगे (और कहने लगे) कि श्री रामचंद्रजी के समान कृपा के धाम प्रभु और कौन है?॥232॥
English Translation:
Hearing Shri Raghuveer’s speech and His love for Bharat, all the Demigods extolled Shri Ram and said, “Can there be anyone else who is all capable and an ocean of mercy, like Shri Ram?”
भावार्थ:
यदि जगत् में भरत का जन्म न होता, तो पृथ्वी पर संपूर्ण धर्मों की धुरी को कौन धारण करता? हे रघुनाथजी! कविकुल के लिए अगम (उनकी कल्पना से अतीत) भरतजी के गुणों की कथा आपके सिवा और कौन जान सकता है?॥1॥
English Translation:
If Bharat had not taken birth in this world, then who else would have been capable of carrying the burden of all the acts of righteousness in the world? It is very hard even for the entire clan of poets to sing the tales of Bharat’s virtues. Who other than You, Shri Raghunath, can fully know about the virtues of Bharat ji?
भावार्थ:
लक्ष्मणजी, श्री रामचंद्रजी और सीताजी ने देवताओं की वाणी सुनकर अत्यंत सुख पाया, जो वर्णन नहीं किया जा सकता। यहाँ भरतजी ने सारे समाज के साथ पवित्र मंदाकिनी में स्नान किया॥2॥
English Translation:
Hearing the words of the Demigods, Lakshman ji, Ram ji and Sita ji felt extremely delighted. Their joy could not be described. Here Bharat ji along with his retinue took bath in the holy Mandakini river.
भावार्थ:
फिर सबको नदी के समीप ठहराकर तथा माता, गुरु और मंत्री की आज्ञा माँगकर निषादराज और शत्रुघ्न को साथ लेकर भरतजी वहाँ चले जहाँ श्री सीताजी और श्री रघुनाथजी थे॥3॥
English Translation:
Keeping everyone near the banks of the river and taking permission of his mothers, Guru (Vashishth) and minister (Sumantra), Bharat ji took Guh and his younger brother (Shatrughan) to the spot where Sita ji and the Chief of Raghus lived.
भावार्थ:
भरतजी अपनी माता कैकेयी की करनी को समझकर (याद करके) सकुचाते हैं और मन में करोड़ों (अनेकों) कुतर्क करते हैं (सोचते हैं) श्री राम, लक्ष्मण और सीताजी मेरा नाम सुनकर स्थान छोड़कर कहीं दूसरी जगह उठकर न चले जाएँ॥4॥
English Translation:
On his way, Bharat ji felt embarrassed thinking about the cunning act of his mother, Kaikeyi. He had millions of types of unsettling doubts in his heart. He thought, “God forbid, hearing my name, Ram ji, Lakshman and Sita ji might leave their place and move to some other place…”
भावार्थ:
मुझे माता के मत में मानकर वे जो कुछ भी करें सो थोड़ा है, पर वे अपनी ओर समझकर (अपने विरद और संबंध को देखकर) मेरे पापों और अवगुणों को क्षमा करके मेरा आदर ही करेंगे॥233॥
English Translation:
Taking me to be an accomplice of my mother, in whichever way Shri Ram treats me, it shall be much less than what I deserve. But knowing me to be his devotee and recalling His pledge to be merciful to the suppliant, He will forgive my sins and bad qualities and give me respect only...
भावार्थ:
चाहे मलिन मन जानकर मुझे त्याग दें, चाहे अपना सेवक मानकर मेरा सम्मान करें, (कुछ भी करें), मेरे तो श्री रामचंद्रजी की जूतियाँ ही शरण हैं। श्री रामचंद्रजी तो अच्छे स्वामी हैं, दोष तो सब दास का ही है॥1॥
English Translation:
Whether Shri Ram renounces me for being a person with a sinful heart or welcomes me as His own servant, my only refuge is in His slippers because Shri Ram is a great master and all blame lies with His servant (myself) only...
भावार्थ:
जगत् में यश के पात्र तो चातक और मछली ही हैं, जो अपने नेम और प्रेम को सदा नया बनाए रखने में निपुण हैं। ऐसा मन में सोचते हुए भरतजी मार्ग में चले जाते हैं। उनके सब अंग संकोच और प्रेम से शिथिल हो रहे हैं॥2॥
English Translation:
The true candidates worthy of fame in this world are Papaya birds and fish. They both are always efficient in keeping their principles and love intact. With these thoughts in his heart, Bharat ji walked on the path. All his limbs were rendered powerless from apprehension and love...
भावार्थ:
माता की हुई बुराई मानो उन्हें लौटाती है, पर धीरज की धुरी को धारण करने वाले भरतजी भक्ति के बल से चले जाते हैं। जब श्री रघुनाथजी के स्वभाव को समझते (स्मरण करते) हैं तब मार्ग में उनके पैर जल्दी-जल्दी पड़ने लगते हैं॥3॥
English Translation:
While the thought of his mother’s sinful acts pulled him back, the strength of his intense devotion and perseverance like that of a bull pulled him forward. Whenever he remembered Shri Raghunath’s gracious nature, his feet moved quickly along the way...
भावार्थ:
उस समय भरत की दशा कैसी है? जैसी जल के प्रवाह में जल के भौंरे की गति होती है। भरतजी का सोच और प्रेम देखकर उस समय निषाद विदेह हो गया (देह की सुध-बुध भूल गया)॥4॥
English Translation:
The condition of Bharat ji at that time resembled the movement of a waterbee (it swirls at a fast speed and can swim against the current of water). Seeing Bharat ji’s anxiety and affection, the Chief of Nishads, Guh lost all sense of his body.
