भावार्थ:
उसमें रंग-बिरंगे कमल खिले हुए हैं। बहुत से भौंरे मधुर स्वर से गुंजार कर रहे हैं। जल के मुर्गे और राजहंस बोल रहे हैं, मानो प्रभु को देखकर उनकी प्रशंसा कर रहे हों॥1॥
English Translation:
Numerous colours of lotuses blossomed in the lake, and swarms of bumblebees hummed sweetly. Seagulls and swans produced such a noise as if they had burst into praising the Lord upon beholding His divine presence.
भावार्थ:
चक्रवाक, बगुले आदि पक्षियों का समुदाय देखते ही बनता है, उनका वर्णन नहीं किया जा सकता। सुंदर पक्षियों की बोली बड़ी सुहावनी लगती है, मानो (रास्ते में) जाते हुए पथिक को बुलाए लेती हो॥2॥
English Translation:
The hosts of chakwa and heron birds were incredibly beautiful, defying description, one could truly appreciate their beauty only by witnessing them. The enchanting sounds of these lovely birds seemed as if they were inviting pedestrians passing by.
भावार्थ:
उस झील (पंपा सरोवर) के समीप मुनियों ने आश्रम बना रखे हैं। उसके चारों ओर वन के सुंदर वृक्ष हैं। चम्पा, मौलसिरी, कदम्ब, तमाल, पाटल, कटहल, ढाक और आम आदि-॥3॥

बहुत प्रकार के वृक्ष नए-नए पत्तों और (सुगंधित) पुष्पों से युक्त हैं, (जिन पर) भौंरों के समूह गुंजार कर रहे हैं। स्वभाव से ही शीतल, मंद, सुगंधित एवं मन को हरनेवाली हवा सदा बहती रहती है।॥4॥
English Translation:
…and many other varieties had sprouted new leaves and blossoms, with swarms of bumblebees humming around them. A delightful breeze, naturally cool, calm, and fragrant, blew there constantly.

कोयलें ‘कुहू’ ‘कुहू’ का शब्द कर रही हैं। उनकी रसीली बोली सुनकर मुनियों का भी ध्यान टूट जाता है॥5॥

भावार्थ:
फलों के बोझ से झुककर सारे वृक्ष पृथ्वी के पास आ लगे हैं, जैसे परोपकारी पुरुष बड़ी सम्पत्ति पाकर (विनय से) झुक जाते हैं॥40॥

The trees bowed to the ground under the burden of their fruits, just like benevolent individuals become even more humble upon acquiring a large fortune.

श्री रामजी ने अत्यंत सुंदर तालाब देखकर स्नान किया और परम सुख पाया। एक सुंदर उत्तम वृक्ष की छाया देखकर श्री रघुनाथजी छोटे भाई लक्ष्मणजी सहित बैठ गए॥1॥
English Translation:
Upon beholding the incredibly beautiful lake, Lord Ram took a bath in it and felt most delighted. Later, discovering shade beneath a lovely tree, the Chief of Raghus, along with His younger brother, seated Himself under it.

फिर वहाँ सब देवता और मुनि आए और स्तुति करके अपने-अपने धाम को चले गए। कृपालु श्री रामजी परम प्रसन्न बैठे हुए छोटे भाई लक्ष्मणजी से रसीली कथाएँ कह रहे हैं॥2॥
English Translation:
Then all the Demigods and Sages arrived there. After praying to the Lord, they went back to their respective abodes. Shri Ram sat very happily with His brother Lakshman ji and recited sweet tales to him.

…Therefore, I should go and see such a noble Lord, this opportunity may not present itself again.” With this thought in mind, Sage Narad left, holding his musical instrument, the veena, in his hand, to the place where the Lord was happily resting.

वे कोमल वाणी से प्रेम के साथ बहुत प्रकार से बखान-बखान कर रामचरित का गान कर (ते हुए चले आ) रहे थे। दण्डवत् करते देखकर श्री रामचंद्रजी ने नारदजी को उठा लिया और बहुत देर तक हृदय से लगाए रखा॥5॥

Very affectionately singing Shri Ram’s exploits in various ways, he came and prostrated in front of the Lord. The Lord picked him up and held him in His embrace for a long time.

हे स्वभाव से ही उदार श्री रघुनाथजी! सुनिए। आप सुंदर अगम और सुगम वर के देने वाले हैं। हे स्वामी! मैं एक वर माँगता हूँ, वह मुझे दीजिए, यद्यपि आप अंतर्यामी होने के नाते सब जानते ही हैं॥1॥

…O’ Naturally gracious Lord of the Raghus, You are the bestower of beautiful boons, both unattainable and attainable. I humbly request You to grant me just one boon, even though You already know what is in my heart, O’ Omniscient Lord!”

(श्री रामजी ने कहा-) हे मुनि! तुम मेरा स्वभाव जानते ही हो। क्या मैं अपने भक्तों से कभी कुछ छिपाव करता हूँ? मुझे ऐसी कौन सी वस्तु प्रिय लगती है, जिसे हे मुनिश्रेष्ठ! तुम नहीं माँग सकते?॥2॥

Your devotion is like a beautiful full Moon night. May Your name “Ram” shine as the full Moon in that pure sky of the hearts of Your devotees, and Your other names act like all the other stars.

कृपा सागर श्री रघुनाथजी ने मुनि से ‘एवमस्तु’ (ऐसा ही हो) कहा। तब नारदजी ने मन में अत्यंत हर्षित होकर प्रभु के चरणों में मस्तक नवाया।

The ocean of mercy, Raghunath ji replied to the Sage, “Your wish is granted!” Thereupon Narad ji felt extremely happy in his heart and bowed his head at the Lord’s feet.

मैं सदा उनकी वैसे ही रखवाली करता हूँ, जैसे माता बालक की रक्षा करती है। छोटा बच्चा जब दौड़कर आग और साँप को पकड़ने जाता है, तो वहाँ माता उसे (अपने हाथों) अलग करके बचा लेती है।

…I always protect them, much like a mother safeguards her child. If an infant child runs to catch hold of a snake or fire, the mother swiftly intervenes and holds the child away (from danger to protect the child)…

सयाना हो जाने पर उस पुत्र पर माता प्रेम तो करती है, परन्तु पिछली बात नहीं रहती। ज्ञानी मेरे प्रौढ़ (सयाने) पुत्र के समान है और (तुम्हारे जैसा) अपने बल का मान न करने वाला सेवक मेरे शिशु पुत्र के समान है।

…However, when her child becomes an adult, the mother undoubtedly loves him, but she doesn’t protect him like before, knowing very well that the adult can take care of himself. In the same manner, the wise are like my grown-up sons, while those humble devotees who have no pride in their own strength, are like my infant children…
भावार्थ:
मेरे सेवक को केवल मेरा ही बल रहता है और उसे (ज्ञानी को) अपना बल होता है। पर काम-क्रोध रूपी शत्रु तो दोनों के लिए हैं। ऐसा विचार कर पंडितजन (बुद्धिमान लोग) मुझको ही भजते हैं। वे ज्ञान प्राप्त होने पर भी भक्ति को नहीं छोड़ते।
English Translation:
…My guileless devotee depends on me alone, while the latter (a wise man) relies on his own strength. And both have to face enemies like lust and anger. The responsibility of defeating the enemies of my humble devotee rests upon me because he, being totally dependent on me, considers my strength as his own. However, the responsibility of destroying the enemies of the wise one, who acknowledges his own strength, does not lie with me. Knowing this fact, intelligent beings worship me, and even after attaining wisdom, they do not renounce their devotion to me…

And like the scorching Summer season, a woman dries up all the water bodies (ponds, lakes, reservoirs, etc.) in the form of chanting, penance, and religious practices…

काम, क्रोध, मद और मत्सर आदि मेंढक हैं। इनको वर्षा ऋतु होकर हर्ष प्रदान करने वाली एकमात्र यही (स्त्री) है। बुरी वासनाएँ कुमुदों के समूह हैं। उनको सदैव सुख देने वाली यह शरद् ऋतु है।

…Lust, anger, false pride, and jealousy are akin to frogs, and a woman, like the rainy season, brings them joy. Bad desires are akin to a cluster of lilies, and a woman is like the autumnal season that delights them.

समस्त धर्म कमलों के झुंड हैं। यह नीच (विषयजन्य) सुख देने वाली स्त्री हिमऋतु होकर उन्हें जला डालती है। फिर ममतारूपी जवास का समूह (वन) स्त्री रूपी शिशिर ऋतु को पाकर हरा-भरा हो जाता है।

…Various deeds of righteousness, resemble a bed of lotuses, and a woman, who is the foundation of sensuous pleasures, acts like pre-winter, causing them to wither and burn. Once again, acting like the end of winter, a woman contributes to the flourishing of the overgrowth of the Yavas plant in the form of affection…

पाप रूपी उल्लुओं के समूह के लिए यह स्त्री सुख देने वाली घोर अंधकारमयी रात्रि है। बुद्धि, बल, शील और सत्य- ये सब मछलियाँ हैं और उन (को फँसाकर नष्ट करने) के लिए स्त्री बंसी के समान है।

…For hosts of sins in the form of owls, a woman is like a pleasure-giving dense, dark night. Intelligence, strength, amiability, and truth are like fish, and a woman is like a hook to catch them, as described by wise men…

युवती स्त्री अवगुणों की मूल, पीड़ा देने वाली और सब दुःखों की खान है, इसलिए हे मुनि! मैंने जी में ऐसा जानकर तुमको विवाह करने से रोका था।
