Ram's Coronation and Prayers

नारि कुमुदिनीं अवध सर रघुपति बिरह दिनेस।
अस्त भएँ बिगसत भईं निरखि राम राकेस॥9क॥

भावार्थ:
स्त्रियाँ कुमुदनी हैं, अयोध्या सरोवर है और श्री रघुनाथजी का विरह सूर्य है (इस विरह सूर्य के ताप से वे मुरझा गई थीं)। अब उस विरह रूपी सूर्य के अस्त होने पर श्री राम रूपी पूर्णचन्द्र को निरखकर वे खिल उठीं॥9क॥

English Translation:
The women, who were like water-lilies in the lake of Ayodhya and had withered under the Sun of separation from Lord Raghupati, blossomed once again at the sight of Lord Ram, who now appeared like the full Moon, as the Sun of separation had finally set.

होहिं सगुन सुभ बिबिधि बिधि बाजहिं गगन निसान।
पुर नर नारि सनाथ करि भवन चले भगवान॥9ख॥

भावार्थ:
अनेक प्रकार के शुभ शकुन हो रहे हैं, आकाश में नगाड़े बज रहे हैं। नगर के पुरुषों और स्त्रियों को सनाथ (दर्शन द्वारा कृतार्थ) करके भगवान्‌ श्री रामचंद्रजी महल को चले॥9ख॥

English Translation:
Many auspicious omens occurred, and the sound of kettledrums echoed in the sky as Lord Ram made His way to His palace after gratifying the men and women of the city with His divine appearance.

प्रभु जानी कैकई लजानी। प्रथम तासु गृह गए भवानी॥
ताहि प्रबोधि बहुत सुख दीन्हा। पुनि निज भवन गवन हरि कीन्हा॥1॥

भावार्थ:
(शिवजी कहते हैं-) हे भवानी! प्रभु ने जान लिया कि माता कैकेयी लज्जित हो गई हैं (इसलिए), वे पहले उन्हीं के महल को गए और उन्हें समझा-बुझाकर बहुत सुख दिया। फिर श्री हरि ने अपने महल को गमन किया॥1॥

English Translation:
Lord Shiv tells Parvati ji, “O’ Bhawani! The Lord realized that His mother Kaikeyi was feeling ashamed, so He first went to her palace, consoled her, and brought her great joy. Then Shri Hari went to His own palace.”

कृपासिंधु जब मंदिर गए। पुर नर नारि सुखी सब भए॥
गुर बसिष्ट द्विज लिए बुलाई। आजु सुघरी सुदिन समुदाई।2॥

भावार्थ:
कृपा के समुद्र श्री रामजी जब अपने महल को गए, तब नगर के स्त्री-पुरुष सब सुखी हुए। गुरु वशिष्ठजी ने ब्राह्मणों को बुला लिया और कहा आज शुभ घड़ी, सुंदर दिन आदि सभी शुभ योग हैं॥2॥

English Translation:
When the all-merciful Lord entered the palace, every man and woman in the city felt completely gratified. Guru Vashishth called upon the Brahmins and said, “The day, hour, and time are favourable today…”

सब द्विज देहु हरषि अनुसासन। रामचंद्र बैठहिं सिंघासन॥
मुनि बसिष्ट के बचन सुहाए। सुनत सकल बिप्रन्ह अति भाए॥3॥

भावार्थ:
आप सब ब्राह्मण हर्षित होकर आज्ञा दीजिए, जिसमें श्री रामचंद्रजी सिंहासन पर विराजमान हों। वशिष्ठ मुनि के सुहावने वचन सुनते ही सब ब्राह्मणों को बहुत ही अच्छे लगे॥3॥

English Translation:
“…So, all of you Brahmins, give your permission for Shri Ramchandra to be installed on the royal throne.” On hearing the pleasant words of Sage Vashishth, all the Brahmins were greatly pleased.

कहहिं बचन मृदु बिप्र अनेका। जग अभिराम राम अभिषेका॥
अब मुनिबर बिलंब नहिं कीजै। महाराज कहँ तिलक करीजै॥4॥

भावार्थ:
वे सब अनेकों ब्राह्मण कोमल वचन कहने लगे कि श्री रामजी का राज्याभिषेक संपूर्ण जगत को आनंद देने वाला है। हे मुनिश्रेष्ठ! अब विलंब न कीजिए और महाराज का तिलक शीघ्र कीजिए॥4॥

English Translation:
The Brahmins spoke many pleasing words, saying, “Lord Ram’s coronation will bring joy to the entire Universe. Now, O’ Chief of Sages, delay no more and commence the coronation ceremony of King Shri Ram by placing the sacred mark of sovereignty on His forehead.”

तब मुनि कहेउ सुमंत्र सन सुनत चलेउ हरषाइ।
रथ अनेक बहु बाजि गज तुरत सँवारे जाइ॥10क॥

भावार्थ:
तब मुनि ने सुमन्त्रजी से कहा, वे सुनते ही हर्षित होकर चले। उन्होंने तुरंत ही जाकर अनेकों रथ, घोड़े और हाथी सजाए,॥10क॥

English Translation:
The Sage then instructed Sumantra, who, upon receiving the order, cheerfully proceeded and promptly got several chariots ready, along with numerous horses and elephants.

जहँ तहँ धावन पठइ पुनि मंगल द्रब्य मगाइ।
हरष समेत बसिष्ट पद पुनि सिरु नायउ आइ॥10ख॥

भावार्थ:
और जहाँ-तहाँ (सूचना देने वाले) दूतों को भेजकर मांगलिक वस्तुएँ मँगाकर फिर हर्ष के साथ आकर वशिष्ठजी के चरणों में सिर नवाया॥10ख॥

English Translation:
He then dispatched runners in every direction to gather auspicious items for the coronation ceremony. Afterward, he gladly returned to Guru Vashishth and bowed his head at his feet.

अवधपुरी अति रुचिर बनाई। देवन्ह सुमन बृष्टि झरि लाई॥
राम कहा सेवकन्ह बुलाई। प्रथम सखन्ह अन्हवावहु जाई॥1॥

भावार्थ:
अवधपुरी बहुत ही सुंदर सजाई गई। देवताओं ने पुष्पों की वर्षा की झड़ी लगा दी। श्री रामचंद्रजी ने सेवकों को बुलाकर कहा कि तुम लोग जाकर पहले मेरे सखाओं को स्नान कराओ॥1॥

English Translation:
The Ayodhya city was decorated very beautifully and the Demigods rained down a continuous shower of flowers from the sky. Ram ji then summoned the attendants and said, “Go and first prepare a bath for my friends.”

सुनत बचन जहँ तहँ जन धाए। सुग्रीवादि तुरत अन्हवाए॥
पुनि करुनानिधि भरतु हँकारे। निज कर राम जटा निरुआरे॥2॥

भावार्थ:
भगवान् के वचन सुनते ही सेवक जहाँ-तहाँ दौड़े और तुरंत ही उन्होंने सुग्रीवादि को स्नान कराया। फिर करुणानिधान श्री रामजी ने भरतजी को बुलाया और उनकी जटाओं को अपने हाथों से सुलझाया॥2॥

English Translation:
Upon hearing Shri Ram’s command, the servants hurriedly bathed Sugriv and all of Shri Ram’s other friends. After that, the ocean of mercy, Shri Ram, called upon Bharat ji disentangled his hair with His own hands.

अन्हवाए प्रभु तीनिउ भाई। भगत बछल कृपाल रघुराई॥
भरत भाग्य प्रभु कोमलताई। सेष कोटि सत सकहिं न गाई॥3॥

भावार्थ:
तदनन्तर भक्त वत्सल कृपालु प्रभु श्री रघुनाथजी ने तीनों भाइयों को स्नान कराया। भरतजी का भाग्य और प्रभु की कोमलता का वर्णन अरबों शेषजी भी नहीं कर सकते॥3॥

English Translation:
The all-merciful Chief of the Raghus, ever affectionate to His devotees, then bathed all three of His brothers. Even millions of Lord Shehsas, with their countless mouths, cannot fully sing of Shri Bharat’s good fortune or the Lord’s tenderness.

पुनि निज जटा राम बिबराए। गुर अनुसासन मागि नहाए॥
करि मज्जन प्रभु भूषन साजे। अंग अनंग देखि सत लाजे॥4॥

भावार्थ:
फिर श्री रामजी ने अपनी जटाएँ खोलीं और गुरुजी की आज्ञा माँगकर स्नान किया। स्नान करके प्रभु ने आभूषण धारण किए। उनके (सुशोभित) अंगों को देखकर सैकड़ों (असंख्य) कामदेव लजा गए॥4॥

English Translation:
Shri Ram then untangled His own matted hair and, with Guru Vashishth’s permission, took a bath. After bathing, the Lord adorned Himself with jewels. The beauty of His adorned limbs was so captivating that it put millions of Cupids – Gods of love, to shame.

सासुन्ह सादर जानकिहि मज्जन तुरत कराइ।
दिब्य बसन बर भूषन अँग अँग सजे बनाइ॥11क॥

भावार्थ:
(इधर) सासुओं ने जानकीजी को आदर के साथ तुरंत ही स्नान कराके उनके अंग-अंग में दिव्य वस्त्र और श्रेष्ठ आभूषण भली-भाँति सजा दिए (पहना दिए)॥ 11क॥

English Translation:
The mothers-in-law gently bathed Janaki ji and dressed Her in divine clothes, adorning every part of Her body with exquisite ornaments.

राम बाम दिसि सोभति रमा रूप गुन खानि।
देखि मातु सब हरषीं जन्म सुफल निज जानि॥11ख॥

भावार्थ:
श्री राम के बायीं ओर रूप और गुणों की खान रमा (श्री जानकीजी) शोभित हो रही हैं। उन्हें देखकर सब माताएँ अपना जन्म (जीवन) सफल समझकर हर्षित हुईं॥11ख॥

English Translation:
Rama ji (Sita ji), the embodiment of beauty and virtues, shone on the left side of Shri Ram. Seeing them, the mothers rejoiced and considered their birth as fully rewarded.

सुनु खगेस तेहि अवसर ब्रह्मा सिव मुनि बृंद।
चढ़ि बिमान आए सब सुर देखन सुखकंद॥11ग॥

भावार्थ:
(काकभुशुण्डिजी कहते हैं-) हे पक्षीराज गरुड़जी! सुनिए, उस समय ब्रह्माजी, शिवजी और मुनियों के समूह तथा विमानों पर चढ़कर सब देवता आनंदकंद भगवान्‌ के दर्शन करने के लिए आए॥11ग॥

English Translation:
Kak Bhushundi ji said to Garud ji, “Listen, O’ King of Birds. On that occasion, Lord Brahma, Lord Shiv, a group of Sages, and all the Demigods mounted their celestial vehicles and came to witness the source of bliss, Shri Ramchandra.”

प्रभु बिलोकि मुनि मन अनुरागा। तुरत दिब्य सिंघासन मागा॥
रबि सम तेज सो बरनि न जाई। बैठे राम द्विजन्ह सिरु नाई॥1॥

भावार्थ:
प्रभु को देखकर मुनि वशिष्ठजी के मन में प्रेम भर आया। उन्होंने तुरंत ही दिव्य सिंहासन मँगवाया, जिसका तेज सूर्य के समान था। उसका सौंदर्य वर्णन नहीं किया जा सकता। ब्राह्मणों को सिर नवाकर श्री रामचंद्रजी उस पर विराज गए॥1॥

English Translation:
Upon seeing Lord Ram, Sage Vashishth’s heart was filled with joy. He promptly sent for a divine throne, radiant as the Sun and beyond all description. Lord Ram sat upon it after bowing to the Brahmins.

जनकसुता समेत रघुराई। पेखि प्रहरषे मुनि समुदाई॥
बेद मंत्र तब द्विजन्ह उचारे। नभ सुर मुनि जय जयति पुकारे॥2॥

भावार्थ:
श्री जानकीजी के सहित रघुनाथजी को देखकर मुनियों का समुदाय अत्यंत ही हर्षित हुआ। तब ब्राह्मणों ने वेदमंत्रों का उच्चारण किया। आकाश में देवता और मुनि ‘जय, हो, जय हो’ ऐसी पुकार करने लगे॥2॥

English Translation:
The groups of Sages were filled with joy and excitement to see the daughter of King Janak as well as Shri Ram, the Chief of the Raghus, seated on the royal throne. At that very moment, the Brahmins began chanting Vedic hymns, while the Demigods and the Sages watching from the sky shouted, “Victory! Victory! Glory to You!”

प्रथम तिलक बसिष्ट मुनि कीन्हा। पुनि सब बिप्रन्ह आयसु दीन्हा॥
सुत बिलोकि हरषीं महतारी। बार बार आरती उतारी॥3॥

भावार्थ:
(सबसे) पहले मुनि वशिष्ठजी ने तिलक किया। फिर उन्होंने सब ब्राह्मणों को (तिलक करने की) आज्ञा दी। पुत्र को राजसिंहासन पर देखकर माताएँ हर्षित हुईं और उन्होंने बार-बार आरती उतारी॥3॥

English Translation:
Sage Vashishth was the first to apply the scarlet mark on Shri Ram’s forehead. He then instructed all the other Brahmins to do the same. The mothers rejoiced at the sight of their son and repeatedly performed arti for Shri Ram.

बिप्रन्ह दान बिबिधि बिधि दीन्हे। जाचक सकल अजाचक कीन्हे॥
सिंघासन पर त्रिभुअन साईं। देखि सुरन्ह दुंदुभीं बजाईं॥4॥

भावार्थ:
उन्होंने ब्राह्मणों को अनेकों प्रकार के दान दिए और संपूर्ण याचकों को अयाचक बना दिया (मालामाल कर दिया)। त्रिभुवन के स्वामी श्री रामचंद्रजी को (अयोध्या के) सिंहासन पर (विराजित) देखकर देवताओं ने नगाड़े बजाए॥4॥

English Translation:
They presented many types of gifts to the Brahmins, and the alms seekers received so many gifts that they became wealthy and no longer remained beggars. Seeing the Lord of the three spheres of the cosmos seated on the throne, the Demigods sounded their kettledrums.

नभ दुंदुभीं बाजहिं बिपुल गंधर्ब किंनर गावहीं।
नाचहिं अपछरा बृंद परमानंद सुर मुनि पावहीं॥
भरतादि अनुज बिभीषनांगद हनुमदादि समेत ते।
गहें छत्र चामर ब्यजन धनु असिचर्म सक्ति बिराजते॥1॥

भावार्थ:
आकाश में बहुत से नगाड़े बज रहे हैं। गन्धर्व और किन्नर गा रहे हैं। अप्सराओं के झुंड के झुंड नाच रहे हैं। देवता और मुनि परमानंद प्राप्त कर रहे हैं। भरत, लक्ष्मण और शत्रुघ्नजी, विभीषण, अंगद, हनुमान्‌ और सुग्रीव आदि सहित क्रमशः छत्र, चँवर, पंखा, धनुष, तलवार, ढाल और शक्ति लिए हुए सुशोभित हैं॥1॥

English Translation:
Many kettledrums resounded in the sky, while Gandharvs and Kinnars sang and the celestial damsels danced to the supreme delight of the Demigods and Sages. Shri Bharat, Shri Lakshman, younger brother Shatrughan ji, Vibhishan, Angad, Hanuman ji, and others stood beside the Lord, holding a royal umbrella, chowries, fans, bows, swords with shields, and spears.

श्री सहित दिनकर बंस भूषन काम बहु छबि सोहई।
नव अंबुधर बर गात अंबर पीत सुर मन मोहई॥
मुकुटांगदादि बिचित्र भूषन अंग अंगन्हि प्रति सजे।
अंभोज नयन बिसाल उर भुज धन्य नर निरखंति जे॥2॥

भावार्थ:
श्री सीताजी सहित सूर्यवंश के विभूषण श्री रामजी के शरीर में अनेकों कामदेवों की छबि शोभा दे रही है। नवीन जलयुक्त मेघों के समान सुंदर श्याम शरीर पर पीताम्बर देवताओं के मन को भी मोहित कर रहा है। मुकुट, बाजूबंद आदि विचित्र आभूषण अंग-अंग में सजे हुए हैं। कमल के समान नेत्र हैं, चौड़ी छाती है और लंबी भुजाएँ हैं जो उनके दर्शन करते हैं, वे मनुष्य धन्य हैं॥2॥

English Translation:
Along with Sita ji, the jewel of the Solar clan, Shri Ram shone like millions of Cupids. His limbs resembled fresh rain clouds, and His yellow robes enchanted the hearts of Demigods and Sages. Every part of Lord Ram was adorned with myriad unique ornaments from head to toe, including a crown, armlets, and bracelets. He has wide lotus-eyes, a broad chest, and long arms. Truly blessed are those who behold such a form.

वह सोभा समाज सुख कहत न बनइ खगेस।
बरनहिं सारद सेष श्रुति सो रस जान महेस॥12क॥

भावार्थ:
हे पक्षीराज गरुड़जी ! वह शोभा, वह समाज और वह सुख मुझसे कहते नहीं बनता। सरस्वतीजी, शेषजी और वेद निरंतर उसका वर्णन करते हैं, और उसका रस (आनंद) महादेवजी ही जानते हैं॥12क॥

English Translation:
Kak Bhushundi ji says to Garud ji, “O’ King of Birds, the splendour and beauty of the gathering at Shri Ram’s coronation was beyond description. Goddess Saraswati, Lord Shehsa, and the Vedas constantly praise it, while only Lord Shiv knows the bliss it brought.”

भिन्न भिन्न अस्तुति करि गए सुर निज निज धाम।
बंदी बेष बेद तब आए जहँ श्रीराम॥12ख॥

भावार्थ:
सब देवता अलग-अलग स्तुति करके अपने-अपने लोक को चले गए। तब भाटों का रूप धारण करके चारों वेद वहाँ आए जहाँ श्री रामजी थे॥12ख॥

English Translation:
After performing their individual prayers, the Demigods returned to their respective abodes. The Vedas, disguised as bards, then came to Shri Ram.

प्रभु सर्बग्य कीन्ह अति आदर कृपानिधान।
लखेउ न काहूँ मरम कछु लगे करन गुन गान॥12ग॥

भावार्थ:
कृपानिधान सर्वज्ञ प्रभु ने (उन्हें पहचानकर) उनका बहुत ही आदर किया। इसका भेद किसी ने कुछ भी नहीं जाना। वेद गुणगान करने लगे॥12ग॥

English Translation:
The omniscient and all-merciful Lord received them with great honour. No one found out about their true identity, and the Vedas began to extol Lord Ram’s virtues.

जय सगुन निर्गुन रूप रूप अनूप भूप सिरोमने।
दसकंधरादि प्रचंड निसिचर प्रबल खल भुज बल हने॥
अवतार नर संसार भार बिभंजि दारुन दुख दहे।
जय प्रनतपाल दयाल प्रभु संजुक्त सक्ति नमामहे॥1॥

भावार्थ:
सगुण और निर्गुण रूप! हे अनुपम रूप-लावण्ययुक्त! हे राजाओं के शिरोमणि! आपकी जय हो। आपने रावण आदि प्रचण्ड, प्रबल और दुष्ट निशाचरों को अपनी भुजाओं के बल से मार डाला। आपने मनुष्य अवतार लेकर संसार के भार को नष्ट करके अत्यंत कठोर दुःखों को भस्म कर दिया। हे दयालु! हे शरणागत की रक्षा करने वाले प्रभो! आपकी जय हो। मैं शक्ति (सीताजी) सहित शक्तिमान्‌ आपको नमस्कार करता हूँ॥1॥

English Translation:
Glory to the One who is both formless and with a divine form, free of material attributes and incomparable in beauty, the crown jewel among all kings. With the might of Your arms, You vanquished formidable and powerful demons like the ten-headed Ravan. By taking human incarnation, You alleviated the world’s burden and ended its most severe sufferings. Hail to You, O’ Protector of the suppliant and the all-merciful Lord; we bow to You along with Goddess Shakti (Sita ji).

तव बिषम माया बस सुरासुर नाग नर अग जग हरे।
भव पंथ भ्रमत अमित दिवस निसि काल कर्म गुननि भरे॥
जे नाथ करि करुना बिलोकि त्रिबिधि दुख ते निर्बहे।
भव खेद छेदन दच्छ हम कहुँ रच्छ राम नमामहे॥2॥

भावार्थ:
हे हरे! आपकी दुस्तर माया के वशीभूत होने के कारण देवता, राक्षस, नाग, मनुष्य और चर, अचर सभी काल कर्म और गुणों से भरे हुए (उनके वशीभूत हुए) दिन-रात अनन्त भव (आवागमन) के मार्ग में भटक रहे हैं। हे नाथ! इनमें से जिनको आपने कृपा करके (कृपादृष्टि) से देख लिया, वे (माया जनित) तीनों प्रकार के दुःखों से छूट गए। हे जन्म-मरण के श्रम को काटने में कुशल श्री रामजी! हमारी रक्षा कीजिए। हम आपको नमस्कार करते हैं॥2॥

English Translation:
O’ Lord Hari, the Demigods, Demons, Serpents, Humans, as well as the animate and inanimate creation are all under the sway of Your formidable illusory energy, Maya. They wander in delusion through endless cycles of birth and death, influenced by time, actions (karma), and the modes of nature (goodness, passion, and ignorance). O’ Lord, upon whom You bestow Your merciful gaze, their three types of sorrows come to an end. You excel in removing the miseries of life and death in this mundane existence. Please protect us, Shri Ram, we bow to You.

जे ग्यान मान बिमत्त तव भव हरनि भक्ति न आदरी।
ते पाइ सुर दुर्लभ पदादपि परत हम देखत हरी॥
बिस्वास करि सब आस परिहरि दास तव जे होइ रहे।
जपि नाम तव बिनु श्रम तरहिं भव नाथ सो समरामहे॥3॥

भावार्थ:
जिन्होंने मिथ्या ज्ञान के अभिमान में विशेष रूप से मतवाले होकर जन्म-मृत्यु (के भय) को हरने वाली आपकी भक्ति का आदर नहीं किया, हे हरि! उन्हें देव-दुर्लभ (देवताओं को भी बड़ी कठिनता से प्राप्त होने वाले, ब्रह्मा आदि के ) पद को पाकर भी हम उस पद से नीचे गिरते देखते हैं (परंतु), जो सब आशाओं को छोड़कर आप पर विश्वास करके आपके दास हो रहते हैं, वे केवल आपका नाम ही जपकर बिना ही परिश्रम भवसागर से तर जाते हैं। हे नाथ! ऐसे आपका हम स्मरण करते हैं॥3॥

English Translation:
Intoxicated with false pride of wisdom and lacking respect for Your devotion, which dispels the fear of repeated births and deaths, individuals may rise to ranks that even Demigods find difficult to attain. Yet, O’ Hari, we see them fall from even such heights. On the other hand, O’ Lord, those who renounce all other hopes but have total faith in You, choosing to remain Your servants and chant and meditate upon Your name, effortlessly cross the ocean of mundane existence.

जे चरन सिव अज पूज्य रज सुभ परसि मुनिपतिनी तरी।
नख निर्गता मुनि बंदिता त्रैलोक पावनि सुरसरी।
ध्वज कुलिस अंकुस कंज जुत बन फिरत कंटक किन लहे।
पद कंज द्वंद मुकुंद राम रमेस नित्य भजामहे॥4॥

भावार्थ:
जो चरण शिवजी और ब्रह्माजी के द्वारा पूज्य हैं, तथा जिन चरणों की कल्याणमयी रज का स्पर्श पाकर (शिला बनी हुई) गौतम ऋषि की पत्नी अहल्या तर गई, जिन चरणों के नख से मुनियों द्वारा वन्दित, त्रैलोक्य को पवित्र करने वाली देवनदी गंगाजी निकलीं और ध्वजा, वज्र अंकुश और कमल, इन चिह्नों से युक्त जिन चरणों में वन में फिरते समय काँटे चुभ जाने से घट्ठे पड़ गए हैं, हे मुकुन्द! हे राम! हे रमापति! हम आपके उन्हीं दोनों चरणकमलों को नित्य भजते रहते हैं॥4॥

English Translation:
O’ Lord Ram, we bow to Your feet which are worshipped by Lord Shiv and Lord Brahma. The dust of Your feet is a source of bliss and liberation. By a mere touch, it instantly redeemed Ahalya, the wife of Sage Gautam. The sages worship the celestial river Ganga which flows from the nails of Your feet. The soles of Your feet are adorned with marks of the flag, thunderbolt, goad, and lotus, and bear scars from the thorns encountered while wandering barefoot in the forest during Your exile.

अब्यक्तमूलमनादि तरु त्वच चारि निगमागम भने।
षट कंध साखा पंच बीस अनेक पर्न सुमन घने।
फल जुगल बिधि कटु मधुर बेलि अकेलि जेहि आश्रित रहे।
पल्लवत फूलत नवल नित संसार बिटप नमामहे॥5॥

भावार्थ:
वेद शास्त्रों ने कहा है कि जिसका मूल अव्यक्त (प्रकृति) है, जो (प्रवाह रूप से) अनादि है, जिसके चार त्वचाएँ, छह तने, पच्चीस शाखाएँ और अनेकों पत्ते और बहुत से फूल हैं, जिसमें कड़वे और मीठे दो प्रकार के फल लगे हैं, जिस पर एक ही बेल है, जो उसी के आश्रित रहती है, जिसमें नित्य नए पत्ते और फूल निकलते रहते हैं, ऐसे संसार वृक्ष स्वरूप (विश्व रूप में प्रकट) आपको हम नमस्कार करते हैं॥5॥

English Translation:
The Vedas and the Scriptures describe You as the tree of the Universe, whose root is unmanifested and flows eternally without a beginning or an end. This tree has four skins or barks representing the four stages of consciousness (awake, dreaming, deep sleep, and moksha), six trunks representing the six states of existence (being, coming into being, transformation, growth, decay, and perishing), twenty-five branches, numerous leaves, and many flowers symbolizing the various elements of nature (the Supreme Lord, nature, intellect, false ego, ether, air, fire, water, earth, eyes, ears, nose, tongue, skin, speech, hands, feet, genitals, anus, mind, sound, touch, form, taste, and smell). It bears two kinds of fruits – sweet and bitter – representing the pleasure and pain derived from one’s actions. The tree has only one vine, represented by material energy (Maya), which remains dependent on the tree, with countless new leaves and flowers sprouting every day, symbolizing the endless desires and actions to attain them. We bow to this universal tree form of You, O’ Lord.

जे ब्रह्म अजमद्वैतमनुभवगम्य मनपर ध्यावहीं।
ते कहहुँ जानहुँ नाथ हम तव सगुन जस नित गावहीं।
करुनायतन प्रभु सदगुनाकर देव यह बर मागहीं।
मन बचन कर्म बिकार तजि तव चरन हम अनुरागहीं॥6॥

भावार्थ:
ब्रह्म अजन्मा है, अद्वैत है, केवल अनुभव से ही जाना जाता है और मन से परे है- (जो इस प्रकार कहकर उस) ब्रह्म का ध्यान करते हैं, वे ऐसा कहा करें और जाना करें, किंतु हे नाथ! हम तो नित्य आपका सगुण यश ही गाते हैं। हे करुणा के धाम प्रभो! हे सद्गुणों की खान! हे देव! हम यह वर माँगते हैं कि मन, वचन और कर्म से विकारों को त्यागकर आपके चरणों में ही प्रेम करें॥6॥

English Translation:
O’ Lord, You are the Absolute truth, unborn and without duality, which can be known only through experience and is beyond the perception of mind. Those who meditate on Your unmanifested form by saying that they know You in this way only, so be it. But O’ Lord, we always would like to sing praises of Your manifested divine form. O’ Abode of mercy! O’ Mine of virtues! O’ Lord! We seek this boon from You that we should have love only for Your feet by abandoning all vices in thought, word and deed.

सब के देखत बेदन्ह बिनती कीन्हि उदार।
अंतर्धान भए पुनि गए ब्रह्म आगार॥13क॥

भावार्थ:
वेदों ने सबके देखते यह श्रेष्ठ विनती की। फिर वे अंतर्धान हो गए और ब्रह्मलोक को चले गए॥13क॥

English Translation:
While everyone looked on, the Vedas recited their humble grand prayer, then vanished from sight and returned to Lord Brahma’s abode.*

बैनतेय सुनु संभु तब आए जहँ रघुबीर।
बिनय करत गदगद गिरा पूरित पुलक सरीर॥13 ख॥

भावार्थ:
काकभुशुण्डिजी कहते हैं- हे गरुड़जी ! सुनिए, तब शिवजी वहाँ आए जहाँ श्री रघुवीर थे और गद्‍गद्‍ वाणी से स्तुति करने लगे। उनका शरीर पुलकावली से पूर्ण हो गया-॥13ख॥

English Translation:
Kak Bhushundi ji told Garud ji, “Listen, O’ Son of Vinta, then Lord Shambu came to Shri Raghuveer, and with a choked voice and His entire body thrilling with emotion, He began extolling Lord Ram in this way-“*

जय राम रमारमनं समनं। भवताप भयाकुल पाहि जनं॥
अवधेस सुरेस रमेस बिभो। सरनागत मागत पाहि प्रभो॥1॥

भावार्थ:
हे राम! हे रमारमण (लक्ष्मीकांत)! हे जन्म-मरण के संताप का नाश करने वाले! आपकी जय हो, आवागमन के भय से व्याकुल इस सेवक की रक्षा कीजिए। हे अवधपति! हे देवताओं के स्वामी! हे रमापति! हे विभो! मैं शरणागत आपसे यही माँगता हूँ कि हे प्रभो! मेरी रक्षा कीजिए॥1॥

English Translation:
“Hail to You, Lord Ram, beloved of Sita ji and dispeller of all agonies. Protect this servant, who is fearful and worried, from the pain of transmigration. O’ Lord of Ayodhya, King of all Demigods, Lord of Sita ji, and omniscient Lord! I seek Your refuge; please extend Your protection to me, O’ Lord.”*

दससीस बिनासन बीस भुजा। कृत दूरि महा महि भूरि रुजा॥
रजनीचर बृंद पतंग रहे। सर पावक तेज प्रचंड दहे॥2॥

भावार्थ:
हे दस सिर और बीस भुजाओं वाले रावण का विनाश करके पृथ्वी के सब महान्‌ रोगों (कष्टों) को दूर करने वाले श्री रामजी! राक्षस समूह रूपी जो पतंगे थे, वे सब आपके बाण रूपी अग्नि के प्रचण्ड तेज से भस्म हो गए॥2॥

English Translation:
…By killing Ravan, who had ten heads and twenty arms, You have relieved the Earth of a terrible affliction. The host of demons were like moths burned to ashes by the fearsome heat of Your fire arrows…*

महि मंडल मंडन चारुतरं। धृत सायक चाप निषंग बरं।
मद मोह महा ममता रजनी। तम पुंज दिवाकर तेज अनी॥3॥

भावार्थ:
आप पृथ्वी मंडल के अत्यंत सुंदर आभूषण हैं, आप श्रेष्ठ बाण, धनुष और तरकस धारण किए हुए हैं। महान्‌ मद, मोह और ममता रूपी रात्रि के अंधकार समूह के नाश करने के लिए आप सूर्य के तेजोमय किरण समूह हैं॥3॥

English Translation:
…You are an exceptionally handsome jewel of this round Earth, equipped with a beautiful bow, quiver, and arrows. You are the radiant rays of the Sun, dispelling the darkness of the night of enormous pride, attachment, and affection…*

मनजात किरात निपात किए। कुम्भोग सरेन हिए॥
हति नाथ अनाथनि पाहि हरे। बिषया बन पावँर भूलि परे॥4॥

भावार्थ:
कामदेव रूपी भील ने मनुष्य रूपी हिरनों के हृदय में कुभोग रूपी बाण मारकर उन्हें गिरा दिया है। हे नाथ! हे (पाप-ताप का हरण करने वाले) हरे ! उसे मारकर विषय रूपी वन में भूल पड़े हुए इन पामर अनाथ जीवों की रक्षा कीजिए॥4॥

English Translation:
…The Cupid, in the form of a hunter, has struck men in the form of deers by hitting their hearts with arrows of evil desires. Lord, vanquish this hunter, O’ Hari, alleviate the suffering of Your devotees and protect these helpless and sinful beings lost in the forest of material desires…*

बहु रोग बियोगन्हि लोग हए। भवदंघ्रि निरादर के फल ए॥
भव सिंधु अगाध परे नर ते। पद पंकज प्रेम न जे करते॥5॥

भावार्थ:
लोग बहुत से रोगों और वियोगों (दुःखों) से मारे हुए हैं। ये सब आपके चरणों के निरादर के फल हैं। जो मनुष्य आपके चरणकमलों में प्रेम नहीं करते, वे अथाह भवसागर में पड़े हैं॥5॥

English Translation:
…The people are distressed by numerous diseases and miseries afflicting their bodies, hearts, and minds. This is the result of disrespecting devotion to Your feet. Those who lack love for Your lotus-feet remain lost in the fathomless ocean of mundane existence…*

अति दीन मलीन दुखी नितहीं। जिन्ह कें पद पंकज प्रीति नहीं॥
अवलंब भवंत कथा जिन्ह कें। प्रिय संत अनंत सदा तिन्ह कें॥6॥

भावार्थ:
जिन्हें आपके चरणकमलों में प्रीति नहीं है वे नित्य ही अत्यंत दीन, मलिन (उदास) और दुःखी रहते हैं और जिन्हें आपकी लीला कथा का आधार है, उनको संत और भगवान्‌ सदा प्रिय लगने लगते हैं॥6॥

English Translation:
…People who have no devotion to Your lotus feet remain extremely miserable, sinful, and unhappy. In contrast, those who rely solely on listening to or reading Your stories constantly hold saints and the eternal Lord dear to them…*

नहिं राग न लोभ न मान मदा। तिन्ह कें सम बैभव वा बिपदा॥
एहि ते तव सेवक होत मुदा। मुनि त्यागत जोग भरोस सदा॥7॥

भावार्थ:
उनमें न राग (आसक्ति) है, न लोभ, न मान है, न मद। उनको संपत्ति सुख और विपत्ति (दुःख) समान है। इसी से मुनि लोग योग (साधन) का भरोसा सदा के लिए त्याग देते हैं और प्रसन्नता के साथ आपके सेवक बन जाते हैं॥7॥

English Translation:
…They are free from material attachments, greed, false pride, and ego, and to them, prosperity and adversity are alike. For this very reason, the sages renounce their faith in yoga (penance and control of mind and senses) and gladly become Your devotees…*

करि प्रेम निरंतर नेम लिएँ। पद पंकज सेवत सुद्ध हिएँ॥
सम मानि निरादर आदरही। सब संतु सुखी बिचरंति मही॥8॥

भावार्थ:
वे प्रेमपूर्वक नियम लेकर निरंतर शुद्ध हृदय से आपके चरणकमलों की सेवा करते रहते हैं और निरादर और आदर को समान मानकर वे सब संत सुखी होकर पृथ्वी पर विचरते हैं॥8॥

English Translation:
…They always lovingly chant Your name and serve Your lotus feet with pure hearts. Remaining equipoised in every situation of honour or insult, these saints move about happily on Earth…*

मुनि मानस पंकज भृंग भजे। रघुबीर महा रणधीर अजे॥
तव नाम जपामि नमामि हरी। भव रोग महागद मान अरी॥9॥

भावार्थ:
हे मुनियों के मन रूपी कमल के भ्रमर! हे महान्‌ रणधीर एवं अजेय श्री रघुवीर! मैं आपको भजता हूँ (आपकी शरण ग्रहण करता हूँ) हे हरि! आपका नाम जपता हूँ और आपको नमस्कार करता हूँ। आप जन्म-मरण रूपी रोग की महान्‌ औषध और अभिमान के शत्रु हैं॥9॥

English Translation:
…I worship You O’ Shri Raghuveer, the bumblebee of the lotus-like hearts of sages. Lord, You are extremely steadfast in battle and invincible. I chant Your name, O’ Hari, and bow to You. Your name is a potent medicine to destroy the disease of birth and death and a remedy against false pride…*

गुन सील कृपा परमायतनं। प्रनमामि निरंतर श्रीरमनं॥
रघुनंद निकंदय द्वंद्वघनं। महिपाल बिलोकय दीन जनं॥10॥

भावार्थ:
आप गुण, शील और कृपा के परम स्थान हैं। आप लक्ष्मीपति हैं, मैं आपको निरंतर प्रणाम करता हूँ। हे रघुनन्दन! (आप जन्म-मरण, सुख-दुःख, राग-द्वेषादि) द्वंद्व समूहों का नाश कीजिए। हे पृथ्वी का पालन करने वाले राजन्‌। इस दीन जन की ओर भी दृष्टि डालिए॥10॥

English Translation:
…You are a repository of virtues, amiability, and the supreme abode of grace. I constantly bow to You, O’ Lord of Sita ji. O’ Delight of the Raghus, You bring an end to all pairs of contradictory experiences (such as joy and sorrow, pleasure and pain, attraction and repulsion). O’ Ruler of the Earth, just cast a glance on this humble servant…*

बार बार बर मागउँ हरषि देहु श्रीरंग।
पद सरोज अनपायनी भगति सदा सतसंग॥14क॥

भावार्थ:
मैं आपसे बार-बार यही वरदान माँगता हूँ कि मुझे आपके चरणकमलों की अचल भक्ति और आपके भक्तों का सत्संग सदा प्राप्त हो। हे लक्ष्मीपते! हर्षित होकर मुझे यही दीजिए॥14क॥

English Translation:
…Again and again, I ask only this boon of You, please grant it gladly, O’ Lord of Sita ji, that I may have unalloyed devotion to Your lotus feet and constant communion with Your devotees.”*

बरनि उमापति राम गुन हरषि गए कैलास।
तब प्रभु कपिन्ह दिवाए सब बिधि सुखप्रद बास॥14ख॥

भावार्थ:
श्री रामचंद्रजी के गुणों का वर्णन करके उमापति महादेवजी हर्षित होकर कैलास को चले गए। तब प्रभु ने वानरों को सब प्रकार से सुख देने वाले डेरे दिलवाए॥14ख॥

English Translation:
After singing the praises of Shri Ram’s virtues, the Lord of Uma ji returned to His abode in Kailash. Then, the Lord assigned the monkeys comfortable residences in every respect.*

सुनु खगपति यह कथा पावनी। त्रिबिध ताप भव भय दावनी॥
महाराज कर सुभ अभिषेका। सुनत लहहिं नर बिरति बिबेका॥1॥

भावार्थ:
हे गरुड़जी ! सुनिए यह कथा (सबको) पवित्र करने वाली है, (दैहिक, दैविक, भौतिक) तीनों प्रकार के तापों का और जन्म-मृत्यु के भय का नाश करने वाली है। महाराज श्री रामचंद्रजी के कल्याणमय राज्याभिषेक का चरित्र (निष्कामभाव से) सुनकर मनुष्य वैराग्य और ज्ञान प्राप्त करते हैं॥1॥

English Translation:
Kak Bhushundi ji says to Garud ji, “Listen, O’ King of Birds, the story of Shri Ram’s glorious deeds has the power to purify and alleviate all three types of suffering. It also eliminates the fear of birth and death. Hearing about the auspicious coronation of King Ram leads people to attain detachment and wisdom…*

जे सकाम नर सुनहिं जे गावहिं। सुख संपति नाना बिधि पावहिं॥
सुर दुर्लभ सुख करि जग माहीं। अंतकाल रघुपति पुर जाहीं॥2॥

भावार्थ:
और जो मनुष्य सकामभाव से सुनते और जो गाते हैं, वे अनेकों प्रकार के सुख और संपत्ति पाते हैं। वे जगत्‌ में देवदुर्लभ सुखों को भोगकर अंतकाल में श्री रघुनाथजी के परमधाम को जाते हैं॥2॥

English Translation:
…Those who listen to and recite it with good intention and unalloyed devotion achieve all forms of happiness and prosperity. After enjoying worldly comforts that are rare even for Demigods, they reach the divine abode of Shri Raghupati at the end of their life on Earth…*

सुनहिं बिमुक्त बिरत अरु बिषई। लहहिं भगति गति संपति नई॥
खगपति राम कथा मैं बरनी। स्वमति बिलास त्रास दुख हरनी॥3॥

भावार्थ:
इसे जो जीवन्मुक्त, विरक्त और विषयी सुनते हैं, वे (क्रमशः) भक्ति, मुक्ति और नवीन संपत्ति (नित्य नए भोग) पाते हैं। हे पक्षीराज गरुड़जी! मैंने अपनी बुद्धि की पहुँच के अनुसार रामकथा वर्णन की है, जो (जन्म-मरण) भय और दुःख हरने वाली है॥3॥

English Translation:
…By listening to Shri Ram’s deeds, an ascetic gains devotion, a detached person achieves liberation, and a person attached to material desires attains ever-increasing prosperity. O’ King of Birds, I have narrated Lord Ram’s story to the best of my ability, which removes the fear and miseries of birth and death…*

बिरति बिबेक भगति दृढ़ करनी। मोह नदी कहँ सुंदर तरनी॥
नित नव मंगल कौसलपुरी। हरषित रहहिं लोग सब कुरी॥4॥

भावार्थ:
यह वैराग्य, विवेक और भक्ति को दृढ़ करने वाली है तथा मोह रूपी नदी के (पार करने) के लिए सुंदर नाव है। अवधपुरी में नित नए मंगलोत्सव होते हैं। सभी वर्गों के लोग हर्षित रहते हैं॥4॥

English Translation:
…It strengthens dispassion, wisdom, and devotion, and acts as a charming boat to cross the river of attachments. Every day there was new and auspicious rejoicing in the Koshal Kingdom, and people of all classes lived happily…*

नित नइ प्रीति राम पद पंकज। सब कें जिन्हहि नमत सिव मुनि अज॥
मंगन बहु प्रकार पहिराए। द्विजन्ह दान नाना बिधि पाए॥5॥

भावार्थ:
श्री रामजी के चरणकमलों में- जिन्हें श्री शिवजी, मुनिगण और ब्रह्माजी भी नमस्कार करते हैं, सबकी नित्य नवीन प्रीति है। भिक्षुकों को बहुत प्रकार के वस्त्राभूषण पहनाए गए और ब्राह्मणों ने नाना प्रकार के दान पाए॥5॥

English Translation:
…Everyone cherished an ever-growing devotion for Shri Ram’s lotus feet, which are worshipped by Lord Shiv, Sages, and Lord Brahma. Those seeking alms were given various types of clothing, and the Brahmins were bestowed with gifts of every kind.*
