भावार्थ:
जो सौ योजन (चार सौ कोस) समुद्र लाँघ सकेगा और बुद्धिनिधान होगा, वही श्री रामजी का कार्य कर सकेगा। (निराश होकर घबराओ मत) मुझे देखकर मन में धीरज धरो। देखो, श्री रामजी की कृपा से (देखते ही देखते) मेरा शरीर कैसा हो गया (बिना पाँख का बेहाल था, पाँख उगने से सुंदर हो गया)!॥1॥
English Translation:
Only the one capable of leaping across twelve hundred kilometres of the ocean and possessing profound wisdom can successfully undertake the divine mission of Shri Ram. Look at me and let courage fill your hearts. Through the benevolence of Shri Ram, my wings, once scorched, have now been restored, and I feel rejuvenated once more.
भावार्थ:
पापी भी जिनका नाम स्मरण करके अत्यंत पार भवसागर से तर जाते हैं। तुम उनके दूत हो, अतः कायरता छोड़कर श्री रामजी को हृदय में धारण करके उपाय करो॥2॥
English Translation:
Even if a sinful person meditates on Lord Ram’s name, they will transcend the fathomless ocean of mundane existence. All of you are devoted ambassadors of Shri Ram, so cast away your fears and invoke Shri Ram in your hearts and devise a plan to traverse the ocean and reach Lanka.
भावार्थ:
(काकभुशुण्डिजी कहते हैं-) हे गरुड़जी! इस प्रकार कहकर जब गीध चला गया, तब उन (वानरों) के मन में अत्यंत विस्मय हुआ। सब किसी ने अपना-अपना बल कहा। पर समुद्र के पार जाने में सभी ने संदेह प्रकट किया॥3॥
English Translation:
Having spoken these words, Sampati departed, leaving everyone profoundly astonished. Each one spoke of their own strengths, yet nurtured doubts about leaping across the ocean.
भावार्थ:
ऋक्षराज जाम्बवान् कहने लगे- मैं बूढ़ा हो गया। शरीर में पहले वाले बल का लेश भी नहीं रहा। जब खरारि (खर के शत्रु श्री राम) वामन बने थे, तब मैं जवान था और मुझ में बड़ा बल था॥4॥
English Translation:
The King of Bears, Jambvant said, “I have now grown old, and I no longer possess even a fraction of the strength I had before. During the time when Lord Vishnu, the killer of the demon Khar, assumed the form of Lord Vaman and conquered the three worlds; heaven, earth and the subterranean region, in just three steps, I was in my adolescent years and possessed tremendous strength.
भावार्थ:
बलि के बाँधते समय प्रभु इतने बढ़े कि उस शरीर का वर्णन नहीं हो सकता, किंतु मैंने दो ही घड़ी में दौड़कर (उस शरीर की) सात प्रदक्षिणाएँ कर लीं॥29॥
English Translation:
While making Bali captive, the Lord enlarged His form to an extent that is hard to describe. In a span of forty-eight minutes, I ran and circumambulated around the Lord seven times.
भावार्थ:
अंगद ने कहा- मैं पार तो चला जाऊँगा, परंतु लौटते समय के लिए हृदय में कुछ संदेह है। जाम्बवान् ने कहा- तुम सब प्रकार से योग्य हो, परंतु तुम सबके नेता हो, तुम्हे कैसे भेजा जाए?॥1॥
English Translation:
Angad expressed, “I can leap across the ocean, but there is doubt in my heart about returning.” Jambvant responded, “You have all the capability, but how can we send the leader of us all?”
भावार्थ:
ऋक्षराज जाम्बवान् ने श्री हनुमानजी से कहा- हे हनुमान्! हे बलवान्! सुनो, तुमने यह क्या चुप साध रखी है? तुम पवन के पुत्र हो और बल में पवन के समान हो। तुम बुद्धि-विवेक और विज्ञान की खान हो॥2॥
English Translation:
The Chief of Bears, Jambvant, then spoke to Hanuman ji, “Listen, Hanuman, why are you standing quietly, O’ Brave one? The strength of the son of the Wind-God is like the mighty wind. You are a mine of wisdom, amiability, and spiritual knowledge.
भावार्थ:
जगत् में कौन सा ऐसा कठिन काम है जो हे तात! तुमसे न हो सके। श्री रामजी के कार्य के लिए ही तो तुम्हारा अवतार हुआ है। यह सुनते ही हनुमान्जी पर्वत के आकार के (अत्यंत विशालकाय) हो गए॥3॥
English Translation:
What task is there in the world that can be hard for you to accomplish, O’ Son? You have taken birth for the sake of undertaking Shri Ram’s work. As soon as Shri Hanuman ji heard these words, his body grew as big as a mountain.
भावार्थ:
उनका सोने का सा रंग है, शरीर पर तेज सुशोभित है, मानो दूसरा पर्वतों का राजा सुमेरु हो। हनुमान्जी ने बार-बार सिंहनाद करके कहा- मैं इस खारे समुद्र को खेल में ही लाँघ सकता हूँ॥4॥
English Translation:
His body had a golden complexion and was full of splendour, as if he was another king of the mountains, resembling the mighty Sumeru. He roared like a lion again and again, declaring, “I will cross this salty ocean as if it is just a child’s playful act.
भावार्थ:
और सहायकों सहित रावण को मारकर त्रिकूट पर्वत को उखाड़कर यहाँ ला सकता हूँ। हे जाम्बवान्! मैं तुमसे पूछता हूँ, तुम मुझे उचित सीख देना (कि मुझे क्या करना चाहिए)॥5॥
English Translation:
…and will kill Ravan along with his accomplices. I will uproot the Trikut mountain and bring it here. O’ Jambvant, I ask you to impart me with the appropriate advice on what I should do.
भावार्थ:
(जाम्बवान् ने कहा-) हे तात! तुम जाकर इतना ही करो कि सीताजी को देखकर लौट आओ और उनकी खबर कह दो। फिर कमलनयन श्री रामजी अपने बाहुबल से (ही राक्षसों का संहार कर सीताजी को ले आएँगे, केवल) खेल के लिए ही वे वानरों की सेना साथ लेंगे॥6॥
English Translation:
Jambvant replied, “O’ Son, all you have to do is go to Lanka, see Sita ji, and come back with Her news. Then, the lotus-eyed One, Shri Ram, will bring Her with the strength of His arms taking the army of monkeys for mere sport.
भावार्थ:
वानरों की सेना साथ लेकर राक्षसों का संहार करके श्री रामजी सीताजी को ले आएँगे। तब देवता और नारदादि मुनि भगवान् के तीनों लोकों को पवित्र करने वाले सुंदर यश का बखान करेंगे, जिसे सुनने, गाने, कहने और समझने से मनुष्य परमपद पाते हैं और जिसे श्री रघुवीर के चरणकमल का मधुकर (भ्रमर) तुलसीदास गाता है।
English Translation:
Along with the monkey army, Shri Ram will slay the demons and bring back Sita ji. Sage Narad and other sages will then sing His beautiful glory, making the three worlds pious. By listening, singing, reciting, and understanding Shri Ram’s exploits, people will attain liberation. Tulsidas ji, who is like a bee for the lotus-feet of Raghuveer, sings this divine tale.
भावार्थ:
श्री रघुवीर का यश भव (जन्म-मरण) रूपी रोग की (अचूक) दवा है। जो पुरुष और स्त्री इसे सुनेंगे, त्रिशिरा के शत्रु श्री रामजी उनके सब मनोरथों को सिद्ध करेंगे॥30 (क)॥
English Translation:
Those men and women who listen to the exploits of Shri Ram, which are like a medicine putting an end to repeated cycles of births and deaths, will have all their wishes fulfilled by the enemy of the demon Trishira, Shri Ram.
भावार्थ:
जिनका नीले कमल के समान श्याम शरीर है, जिनकी शोभा करोड़ों कामदेवों से भी अधिक है और जिनका नाम पापरूपी पक्षियों को मारने के लिए बधिक (व्याधा) के समान है, उन श्री राम के गुणों के समूह (लीला) को अवश्य सुनना चाहिए॥30 (ख)॥
English Translation:
Shri Ram, whose complexion resembles blue lotuses, is much more handsome than millions of Gods of Love put together. One must listen to the host of His virtues. Shri Ram’s name is akin to a hunter who slays the birds in the form of sins.

कलियुग के समस्त पापों के नाश करने वाले श्री रामचरित् मानस का यह चौथा सोपान समाप्त हुआ।
English Translation:
So concludes the fourth chapter (Kishkindha Kaand) of Shri Ramcharitmanas, which destroys all the sins of Kaliyug.
