• जग कारन तारन भव भंजन धरनी भार।
  की तुम्ह अखिल भुवन पति लीन्ह मनुज अवतार॥1॥

भावार्थ:
अथवा आप जगत्‌ के मूल कारण और संपूर्ण लोकों के स्वामी स्वयं भगवान्‌ हैं, जिन्होंने लोगों को भवसागर से पार उतारने तथा पृथ्वी का भार नष्ट करने के लिए मनुष्य रूप में अवतार लिया है?॥1॥

English Translation:
…Or are you the very reason for the creation of this world, helping people to cross the ocean of mundane existence, relieving the Earth of its burden, the Lord of the entire cosmos who has taken a human avatar?

• कोसलेस दसरथ के जाए, हम पितु बचन मानि बन आए।
  नाम राम लछिमन दौउ भाई, संग नारि सुकुमारि सुहाई॥1॥

भावार्थ:
(श्री रामचंद्रजी ने कहा)- हम कोसलराज दशरथजी के पुत्र हैं और पिता का वचन मानकर वन आए हैं। हमारे राम-लक्ष्मण नाम हैं, हम दोनों भाई हैं। हमारे साथ सुंदर सुकुमारी स्त्री थी॥1॥

English Translation:
Shri Ram replied, “We are the sons of King Dashrath of the Koshal Kingdom. We came to the forest after accepting our father’s command. Our names are Ram and Lakshman, and we are brothers. We had a beautiful and delicate woman accompanying us…

• इहाँ हरी निसिचर बैदेही। बिप्र फिरहिं हम खोजत तेही।
  आपन चरित कहा हम गाई। कहहु बिप्र निज कथा बुझाई॥2॥

भावार्थ:
यहाँ (वन में) राक्षस ने (मेरी पत्नी) जानकी को हर लिया। हे ब्राह्मण! हम उसे ही खोजते फिरते हैं। हमने तो अपना चरित्र कह सुनाया। अब हे ब्राह्मण! अपनी कथा समझाकर कहिए॥2॥

English Translation:
…Here in the forest, a demon kidnapped Videhi (daughter of King Janak), so we both are searching for Her, O’ Brahman. We have narrated our story, now kindly share your own tale with us.

• प्रभु पहिचानि परेउ गहि चरना। सो सुख उमा जाइ नहिं बरना।
  पुलकित तन मुख आव न बचना। देखत रुचिर बेष कै रचना॥3॥

भावार्थ:
प्रभु को पहचानकर हनुमान्‌जी उनके चरण पकड़कर पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़े (उन्होंने साष्टांग दंडवत्‌ प्रणाम किया)। (शिवजी कहते हैं-) हे पार्वती! वह सुख वर्णन नहीं किया जा सकता। शरीर पुलकित है, मुख से वचन नहीं निकलता। वे प्रभु के सुंदर वेष की रचना देख रहे हैं!॥3॥

English Translation:
Hanuman Ji recognized the Lord and clasped Shri Ram’s feet. Lord Shiv tells Goddess Uma, “The joy that Hanuman Ji felt cannot be expressed.” Hanuman ji’s body was thrilling with emotion, and he was unable to utter a word. He began to gaze at the Lord’s beautiful form.

• पुनि धीरजु धरि अस्तुति कीन्ही। हरष हृदयँ निज नाथहि चीन्ही।
  मोर न्याउ मैं पूछा साईं। तुम्ह पूछहु कस नर की नाईं॥4॥

भावार्थ:
फिर धीरज धर कर स्तुति की। अपने नाथ को पहचान लेने से हृदय में हर्ष हो रहा है। (फिर हनुमान्‌जी ने कहा-) हे स्वामी! मैंने जो पूछा वह मेरा पूछना तो न्याय था, परंतु आप मनुष्य की तरह कैसे पूछ रहे हैं?॥4॥

English Translation:
Then, regaining his composure, he began extolling Lord Ram. His heart brimmed with joy upon recognizing his master. He said, “My questioning You can be justified. But how come You asked me (the question) like an ordinary human?

• तव माया बस फिरउँ भुलाना। ता ते मैं नहिं प्रभु पहिचाना॥5॥

भावार्थ:
मैं तो आपकी माया के वश भूला फिरता हूँ इसी से मैंने अपने स्वामी (आप) को नहीं पहचाना॥5॥

English Translation:
…Swayed by the spell of Your illusory energy, I roam around forgetfully, and that is why I did not recognize You, my Lord.

• एकु मैं मंद मोहबस कुटिल हृदय अग्यान।
  पुनि प्रभु मोहि बिसारेउ दीनबंधु भगवान॥2॥

भावार्थ:
एक तो मैं यों ही मंद हूँ, दूसरे मोह के वश में हूँ, तीसरे हृदय का कुटिल और अज्ञान हूँ, फिर हे दीनबंधु भगवान्‌! प्रभु (आप) ने भी मुझे भुला दिया!॥2॥

English Translation:
…In the first place, I am dull-witted, infatuated, cunning-hearted, and ignorant. However, O’ Master, the friend of the suppliant, You also seem to have forgotten me, my Lord!

• जदपि नाथ बहु अवगुन मोरें। सेवक प्रभुहि परै जनि भोरें।
  नाथ जीव तव मायाँ मोहा। सो निस्तरइ तुम्हारेहिं छोहा॥1॥

भावार्थ:
हे नाथ! यद्यपि मुझ में बहुत से अवगुण हैं, तथापि सेवक स्वामी की विस्मृति में न पड़े। हे नाथ! जीव आपकी माया से मोहित है। वह आप ही की कृपा से निस्तार पा सकता है॥1॥

English Translation:
…Although, O’ Lord, I may have many faults, a servant should never be forgotten by the master, even mistakenly. O’ Master, the living entity is deluded by Your illusionary energy, and only with Your grace can a person get relief from it.

• ता पर मैं रघुबीर दोहाई। जानउँ नहिं कछु भजन उपाई।
  सेवक सुत पति मातु भरोसें। रहइ असोच बनइ प्रभु पोसें॥2॥

भावार्थ:
उस पर हे रघुवीर! मैं आपकी दुहाई करके कहता हूँ कि मैं भजन-साधन कुछ नहीं जानता। सेवक स्वामी के और पुत्र माता के भरोसे निश्चिंत रहता है। प्रभु को सेवक का पालन-पोषण करना ही पड़ता है॥2॥

English Translation:
…Moreover, I swear by You, Raghuveer, I am unaware of the methods of worship or any other means to extol You. A servant relies on his master, and a child relies on its mother, and both remain worry-free on account of them. Therefore, a master must take care of his servant.

• अस कहि परेउ चरन अकुलाई। निज तनु प्रगटि प्रीति उर छाई।
  तब रघुपति उठाई उर लावा। निज लोचन जल सींचि जुड़ावा॥3॥

भावार्थ:
ऐसा कहकर हनुमान्‌जी अकुलाकर प्रभु के चरणों पर गिर पड़े, उन्होंने अपना असली शरीर प्रकट कर दिया। उनके हृदय में प्रेम छा गया। तब श्री रघुनाथजी ने उन्हें उठाकर हृदय से लगा लिया और अपने नेत्रों के जल से सींचकर शीतल किया॥3॥

English Translation:
Uttering these words, Hanuman ji fell at the Lord’s feet, overwhelmed with emotion. He manifested his own form as a monkey, and his heart overflowed with love. Then Raghupati lifted him up and hugged him. The tears flowing from the Lord’s eyes drenched Hanuman ji in soothing comfort.

• सुनु कपि जियँ मानसि जनि ऊना। तैं मम प्रिय लछिमन ते दूना।
  समदरसी मोहि कह सब कोऊ। सेवक प्रिय अनन्य गति सोऊ॥4॥

भावार्थ:
(फिर कहा-) हे कपि! सुनो, मन में ग्लानि मत मानना। तुम मुझे लक्ष्मण से भी दूने प्रिय हो। सब कोई मुझे समदर्शी कहते हैं, पर मुझको सेवक प्रिय है, क्योंकि वह अनन्यगति होता है॥4॥

English Translation:
Then Shri Ram said, “Listen, O’ Hanuman, do not feel remorse in your heart. You are twice as dear to Me as Lakshman. Everyone says that I am equal to all, but I am very fond of my devotees because, except me, they have no one else to turn to.

• सो अनन्य जाकें असि मति न टरइ हनुमंत।
  मैं सेवक सचराचर रूप स्वामि भगवंत॥3॥

भावार्थ:
और हे हनुमान्‌! अनन्य वही है जिसकी ऐसी बुद्धि कभी नहीं टलती कि मैं सेवक हूँ और यह चराचर जगत्‌ मेरे स्वामी भगवान्‌ का रूप है॥3॥

English Translation:
…And, O’ Hanuman, that person is my dedicated devotee, who is steadfast in his conviction that he is the servant, and this entire creation, both animate and inanimate, in the form of the Lord, is his master.

• देखि पवनसुत पति अनुकूला। हृदयँ हरष बीती सब सूला।
  नाथ सैल पर कपिपति रहई। सो सुग्रीव दास तव अहई॥1॥

भावार्थ:
स्वामी को अनुकूल देखकर पवन कुमार हनुमान्‌जी के हृदय में हर्ष छा गया और उनके सब दुःख जाते रहे। (उन्होंने कहा-) हे नाथ! इस पर्वत पर वानरराज सुग्रीव रहते हैं, वह आपका दास है॥1॥

English Translation:
Upon seeing His master pleased with him, Hanuman ji, the son of the Wind God, felt joy in his heart, and all his pain vanished. He said, “O’ Lord, the King of Monkeys resides on top of the mountain; his name is Sugriv, and he too is your devoted servant.

• तेहि सन नाथ मयत्री कीजे। दीन जानि तेहि अभय करीजे।
  सो सीता कर खोज कराइहि। जहँ तहँ मरकट कोटि पठाइहि॥2॥

भावार्थ:
हे नाथ! उससे मित्रता कीजिए और उसे दीन जानकर निर्भय कर दीजिए। वह सीताजी की खोज करवाएगा और जहाँ-तहाँ करोड़ों वानरों को भेजेगा॥2॥

English Translation:
…O’ Lord, befriend him, and knowing his suffering, rid him of all his fears. He will help in the search for Sita ji by dispatching millions of monkeys in every direction.

• इहि बिधि सकल कथा समुझाई। लिए दुऔ जन पीठि चढ़ाई।
  जब सुग्रीवँ राम कहुँ देखा। अतिसय जन्म धन्य करि लेखा॥3॥

भावार्थ:
इस प्रकार सब बातें समझाकर हनुमान्‌जी ने (श्री राम-लक्ष्मण) दोनों जनों को पीठ पर चढ़ा लिया। जब सुग्रीव ने श्री रामचंद्रजी को देखा तो अपने जन्म को अत्यंत धन्य समझा॥3॥

English Translation:
In this manner, after narrating the complete story of Sugriv, Hanuman ji carried both the Brothers on his back and flew to where Sugriv was. When Sugriv saw Shri Ram, he regarded his birth as highly blessed.

• सादर मिलेउ नाइ पद माथा। भेंटेउ अनुज सहित रघुनाथा।
  कपि कर मन बिचार एहि रीती। करिहहिं बिधि मो सन ए प्रीती॥4॥

भावार्थ:
सुग्रीव चरणों में मस्तक नवाकर आदर सहित मिले। श्री रघुनाथजी भी छोटे भाई सहित उनसे गले लगकर मिले। सुग्रीव मन में इस प्रकार सोच रहे हैं कि हे विधाता! क्या ये मुझसे प्रीति करेंगे?॥4॥

English Translation:
Sugriv respectfully met Shri Ram, bowing his head at the Lord’s feet, while Shri Ram and Lakshman ji embraced him in return. Sugriv pondered in his heart, “O Lord, will they befriend me?
