भावार्थ:
कोसलपुर के रहने वाले स्त्री, पुरुष, बूढ़े और बालक सभी को कृपालु श्री रामचन्द्रजी प्राणों से भी बढ़कर प्रिय लगते हैं।
English Translation:
Lord Ram was cherished more than life itself by the citizens of the Kaushal Kingdom, men, women, the elderly, and children alike.
भावार्थ:
श्री रामचन्द्रजी भाइयों और इष्ट मित्रों को बुलाकर साथ ले लेते हैं और नित्य वन में जाकर शिकार खेलते हैं। मन में पवित्र समझकर मृगों को मारते हैं और प्रतिदिन लाकर राजा (दशरथजी) को दिखलाते हैं।
English Translation:
Lord Ram would call His Brothers and friends and take them hunting in the forest every day. He would first discern the pious deer in His heart, then hunt them, and later present His trophy kill to King Dashrath.
भावार्थ:
जो मृग श्री रामजी के बाण से मारे जाते थे, वे शरीर छोड़कर देवलोक को चले जाते थे। श्री रामचन्द्रजी अपने छोटे भाइयों और सखाओं के साथ भोजन करते हैं और माता-पिता की आज्ञा का पालन करते हैं।
English Translation:
The deer struck down by Shri Ram’s arrows attained heaven after renouncing their bodies. Ram ji dined with His brothers and playmates and faithfully obeyed the commands of His mother and father.
भावार्थ:
जिस प्रकार नगर के लोग सुखी हों, कृपानिधान श्री रामचन्द्रजी वही संयोग (लीला) करते हैं। वे मन लगाकर वेद-पुराण सुनते हैं और फिर स्वयं छोटे भाइयों को समझाकर कहते हैं।
English Translation:
The gracious Lord Ram naturally undertakes all actions that bring joy to His citizens. He listens to the Scriptures, including the Vedas and Puranas, with deep devotion and then recites and explains them to His younger Brothers.
भावार्थ:
श्री रघुनाथजी प्रातःकाल उठकर माता-पिता और गुरु को मस्तक नवाते हैं और आज्ञा लेकर नगर का काम करते हैं। उनके चरित्र देख-देखकर राजा मन में बड़े हर्षित होते हैं।
English Translation:
Shri Ram wakes up early in the morning and bows His head before His mother, father, and guru. With their permission, He undertakes the responsibilities of the Kingdom. Witnessing His noble deeds, King Dashrath feels immense joy in his heart.
भावार्थ:
जो व्यापक, अकल (निरवयव), इच्छारहित, अजन्मा और निर्गुण है तथा जिनका न नाम है न रूप, वही भगवान भक्तों के लिए नाना प्रकार के अनुपम (अलौकिक) चरित्र करते हैं।
English Translation:
The Supreme Lord, who is omnipresent, formless, free from material desires, unborn, beyond all material qualities, and beyond name and form, performed countless unique divine exploits for the welfare of His devotees.
भावार्थ:
यह सब चरित्र मैंने गाकर (बखानकर) कहा। अब आगे की कथा मन लगाकर सुनो। ज्ञानी महामुनि विश्वामित्रजी वन में शुभ आश्रम (पवित्र स्थान) जानकर बसते थे।
English Translation:
Lord Shiv said to Parvati ji, “I have narrated this story to you, and now, listen with a dedicated mind to what followed next.” Sage Vishwamitra was a great and enlightened sage who resided in the forest, considering it a sacred place for his hermitage.
भावार्थ:
जहाँ वे मुनि जप, यज्ञ और योग करते थे, परन्तु मारीच और सुबाहु से बहुत डरते थे। यज्ञ देखते ही राक्षस दौड़ पड़ते थे और उपद्रव मचाते थे, जिससे मुनि (बहुत) दुःख पाते थे।
English Translation:
At his hermitage, the sage diligently performed Vedic rituals such as chanting, yajnas, and austerities. However, he lived in constant fear of the demons Marich and Subahu, who would disrupt and destroy his sacred rites whenever they saw him engaged in worship. This caused the sage great distress.
भावार्थ:
गाधि के पुत्र विश्वामित्रजी के मन में चिन्ता छा गई कि ये पापी राक्षस भगवान के (मारे) बिना न मरेंगे। तब श्रेष्ठ मुनि ने मन में विचार किया कि प्रभु ने पृथ्वी का भार हरने के लिए अवतार लिया है।
English Translation:
Sage Vishwamitra, the son of Sage Gadhi, was deeply distressed, knowing that the sinful demons could be slain by none other than Lord Hari. Then, the finest among sages pondered in his heart, “The Lord has incarnated to rid the Earth of its burdens…”
भावार्थ:
इसी बहाने जाकर मैं उनके चरणों का दर्शन करूँ और विनती करके दोनों भाइयों को ले आऊँ। (अहा!) जो ज्ञान, वैराग्य और सब गुणों के धाम हैं, उन प्रभु को मैं नेत्र भरकर देखूँगा।
English Translation:
…With this excuse, I will go to seek the feet of Lord Hari and plead with King Dashrath to send the two Brothers. I will then bring Lord Ram and Shri Lakshman to the hermitage. I will behold to my heart’s content that Supreme Lord, who is the embodiment of knowledge, detachment, and all divine virtues.”
भावार्थ:
बहुत प्रकार से मनोरथ करते हुए जाने में देर नहीं लगी। सरयूजी के जल में स्नान करके वे राजा के दरवाजे पर पहुँचे।
English Translation:
With many desires in his heart, he wasted no time in reaching the Kaushal Kingdom, Ayodhya. After bathing in the sacred waters of the Sarayu river, he proceeded to the court of King Dashrath.
भावार्थ:
राजा ने जब मुनि के आने की बात सुनी, तो वे ब्राह्मणों के साथ मिलने गए और दण्डवत् करके उनका सम्मान कर उन्हें अपने आसन पर बैठाया।
English Translation:
When the King heard of the sage’s arrival, he went to meet him, accompanied by a group of Brahmins. After prostrating himself before the sage, the King reverently welcomed him and seated him upon his own throne.
भावार्थ:
राजा ने मुनि के चरण धोकर अति पूजा की और कहा कि मेरे समान आज कोई दूसरा धन्य नहीं। फिर अनेक प्रकार का भोजन कराया, जिससे मुनि बहुत प्रसन्न हुए।
English Translation:
After washing the sage’s feet and performing various prayers, the King said, “No one is as blessed as I am today.” He then offered the sage a variety of exquisite feasts. The Chief among Sages felt immense delight in his heart.
भावार्थ:
फिर राजा ने चारों पुत्रों को मुनि के चरणों में डाला। श्री राम को देखकर मुनि अपनी देह की सुधि भूल गए। जैसे चकोर पूर्ण चन्द्रमा को देखकर मोहित हो जाता है, वैसे ही मुनि प्रभु के मुख को देखते रह गए।
English Translation:
Then, the King made all four of his sons clasp the sage’s feet. The moment Sage Vishwamitra beheld Lord Ram, he forgot his own bodily existence. Mesmerized by the divine beauty of the Lord’s face, he gazed upon Him, just as a chakor bird becomes enchanted by the full Moon.
भावार्थ:
तब राजा ने हर्षित होकर कहा - हे मुनि! ऐसी कृपा आपने पहले कभी नहीं की। कहिए आज आने का कारण क्या है, मैं देर नहीं करूँगा।
English Translation:
Gladdened at heart, King Dashrath spoke, “O’ Sage, never before have you graced us in this way. Please tell me the purpose of your visit, and I shall fulfill your command without delay.”
भावार्थ:
मुनि ने कहा- हे राजन्! राक्षसों के समूह मुझे बहुत सताते हैं। इसीलिए मैं कुछ माँगने आया हूँ। मुझे छोटे भाई सहित श्री राम को दे दीजिए। राक्षसों के मारे जाने पर मैं निश्चिंत हो जाऊँगा।
English Translation:
The sage replied, “O’ King, hordes of demons torment me, and that is why I have come to seek your help. Grant me Shri Ram along with His Brother Lakshman. Once the demons are vanquished, I will be at peace.”
भावार्थ:
हे राजन्! प्रसन्न मन से मोह और अज्ञान छोड़कर इन्हें मुझे दीजिए। इससे आपको धर्म और कीर्ति की प्राप्ति होगी और इनका परम कल्याण होगा।
English Translation:
O’ King, with a joyful heart, let go of all attachment and ignorance, and entrust your two Sons to me. In doing so, O’ Master, you will gain great religious merit and honour, and it will be immensely beneficial for them.
भावार्थ:
इस अत्यंत अप्रिय बात को सुनकर राजा का हृदय कांप उठा और उनका मुख फीका पड़ गया। उन्होंने कहा - हे ब्राह्मण! मैंने अपने वृद्धावस्था में ये चार पुत्र पाए हैं, आपने विचार कर यह बात नहीं कही।
English Translation:
Hearing these extremely distressing words from Sage Vishwamitra, King Dashrath’s heart trembled, and his face turned pale. He said, “O’ Brahmin, I was blessed with my Sons in my old age. You have spoken without due consideration…”
भावार्थ:
हे मुनि! आप भूमि, गाय, धन और खजाना माँग लीजिए, मैं प्रसन्नतापूर्वक सब कुछ दे दूँगा। देह और प्राण से प्यारा कुछ नहीं होता, मैं उसे भी एक क्षण में दे दूँगा।
English Translation:
Ask for land, cows, wealth, or even my entire treasury, I will gladly give you everything today. Nothing is dearer than one’s own body and life, yet even these I would surrender in an instant, O’ Sage…
भावार्थ:
सभी पुत्र मुझे प्राणों के समान प्यारे हैं, उनमें भी हे प्रभो! राम को तो (किसी प्रकार भी) देते नहीं बनता। कहाँ अत्यन्त डरावने और क्रूर राक्षस और कहाँ परम किशोर अवस्था के (बिलकुल सुकुमार) मेरे सुंदर पुत्र!
English Translation:
“All my Sons are as dear to me as life itself. O Lord, I simply cannot part with Ram.
On one side are those dreadful, brutal demons, and on the other, my beautiful Son, still in the prime of his youth and innocence.”
भावार्थ:
प्रेम रस में सनी हुई राजा की वाणी सुनकर ज्ञानी मुनि विश्वामित्रजी ने हृदय में बड़ा हर्ष माना। तब वशिष्ठजी ने राजा को बहुत प्रकार से समझाया, जिससे राजा का संदेह नाश को प्राप्त हुआ।
English Translation:
Hearing the King’s love-filled words, the wise sage Vishwamitra rejoiced in his heart.
Then Sage Vashishtha explained many things to King Dasharath, ultimately dispelling all his doubts.
भावार्थ:
राजा ने बड़े ही आदर से दोनों पुत्रों को बुलाया और हृदय से लगाकर बहुत प्रकार से उन्हें शिक्षा दी। (फिर कहा-) हे नाथ! ये दोनों पुत्र मेरे प्राण हैं। हे मुनि! (अब) आप ही इनके पिता हैं, दूसरा कोई नहीं।
English Translation:
With great reverence, the King called his two Sons, embraced them close to his heart, and instructed them in many loving ways.
Then he said, “O sage! These two are my life itself. From now on, you alone are their father—there is no other.”
भावार्थ:
राजा ने बहुत प्रकार से आशीर्वाद देकर पुत्रों को ऋषि के हवाले कर दिया। फिर प्रभु माता के महल में गए और उनके चरणों में सिर नवाकर चले।
English Translation:
The King, after blessing his sons in many ways, entrusted them to the Sage.
Then Lord Ram went to his mother's palace, bowed at her feet, and departed.
भावार्थ:
पुरुषों में सिंह रूप दोनों भाई (राम-लक्ष्मण) मुनि का भय हरने के लिए प्रसन्न होकर चले। वे कृपा के समुद्र, धीर बुद्धि और सम्पूर्ण विश्व के कारण के भी कारण हैं।
English Translation:
The two Brothers, lion-hearted heroes among men, joyfully set out to remove the sage’s fear.
They are oceans of compassion, calm in intellect, and the ultimate cause behind all that exists.
भावार्थ:
भगवान के लाल नेत्र हैं, चौड़ी छाती और विशाल भुजाएँ हैं, नील कमल और तमाल के वृक्ष की तरह श्याम शरीर है, कमर में पीताम्बर (पहने) और सुंदर तरकस कसे हुए हैं। दोनों हाथों में (क्रमशः) सुंदर धनुष और बाण हैं।
English Translation:
The Lord's eyes are red like lotus blossoms; His chest is broad, and His arms are long and strong.
His dark-hued form shines like a blue lotus or tamala tree. A golden cloth is tied around His waist, securing a beautiful quiver,
while in His two hands, He holds a glorious bow and arrow.
भावार्थ:
श्याम और गौर वर्ण के दोनों भाई परम सुंदर हैं। विश्वामित्रजी को महान निधि प्राप्त हो गई। (वे सोचने लगे-) मैं जान गया कि प्रभु ब्रह्मण्यदेव (ब्राह्मणों के भक्त) हैं। मेरे लिए भगवान ने अपने पिता को भी छोड़ दिया।
English Translation:
Both Brothers—one dark, one fair—are supremely handsome. Sage Vishwamitra felt as if he had found a great treasure.
He reflected, “Now I understand—Lord Ram is truly devoted to the Brahmins,
for He even left His own father for my sake.”
भावार्थ:
मार्ग में चले जाते हुए मुनि ने ताड़का को दिखलाया। शब्द सुनते ही वह क्रोध करके दौड़ी। श्री रामजी ने एक ही बाण से उसके प्राण हर लिए और दीन जानकर उसको निजपद (अपना दिव्य स्वरूप) दिया।
English Translation:
As they proceeded on their path, the Sage pointed out Tadaka. On hearing them, she charged forth in fury.
With a single arrow, Lord Ram ended her life, and recognizing her miserable state, He granted her liberation and divine status.
भावार्थ:
तब ऋषि विश्वामित्र ने प्रभु को मन में विद्या का भंडार समझते हुए भी (लीला को पूर्ण करने के लिए) ऐसी विद्या दी, जिससे भूख-प्यास न लगे और शरीर में अतुलित बल और तेज का प्रकाश हो।
English Translation:
Recognizing the Lord within his heart as the very treasure-house of knowledge, Sage Vishwamitra still imparted divine teachings to Him.
These included powers to conquer hunger and thirst, immense strength, and a radiant divine brilliance.
भावार्थ:
सब अस्त्र-शस्त्र समर्पण करके मुनि प्रभु श्री रामजी को अपने आश्रम में ले आए और उन्हें परम हितू जानकर भक्तिपूर्वक कंद, मूल और फल का भोजन कराया।
English Translation:
After bestowing all celestial weapons to Lord Ram, the Sage brought Him to his hermitage.
Knowing Him to be the source of all good, he lovingly offered fruits, roots, and bulbs as a humble devotional meal.
